  • In this study, the anti-oxidative and anti-obesity activities of Amomum cardamomum L. methanol extract (ACME) were evaluated using DPPH radical scavenging activity assay, pancreatic lipase enzyme inhibition assay, and the cell culture model system. ACME exhibited DPPH radical scavenging activities dose-dependently, with $IC_{50}$ of DPPH radical scavenging activities of ACME being $25.15{\mu}g/ml$. Furthermore, ACME effectively suppressed pancreatic lipase enzyme activity dose-dependently. ACME also significantly suppressed adipocyte differentiation, lipid accumulation, triglyceride (TG) contents, and triggered lipolysis activity on 3T3-L1 preadipocytes in a dose-dependent manner, without cytotoxicity. Their anti-obesity effect was modulated by the cytidine-cytidine-adenosine-adenosine-thymidine (CCAAT)/enhancer binding proteins ${\alpha}$ ($C/EBP{\alpha}$), $C/EBP{\beta}$ and the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor ${\gamma}$ ($PPAR{\gamma}$) gene and protein expressions. Taken together, these results provide an important new insight that A. cardamomum L. possesses anti-oxidative and anti-obesity activities such as pancreatic lipase inhibition, anti-adipogenic, and lipolysis effects. There is therefore potential for its use as a promising component in the field of nutraceuticals and the identification of the active compounds that confer the anti-oxidative and anti-obesity activities of ACME might be an appropriate next step.

  • Colorectal cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death, both in men and women. This study investigated the effects of Amorphophallus campanulatus tuber methanolic extract (ACME) on aberrant crypt foci (ACF) formation, colonic cell proliferation, lipid peroxidative damage and the antioxidant status in a long term preclinical model of 1, 2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH) induced colon carcinogenesis in rats. Male Wistar rats were divided into six groups, viz., group I rats served as controls; group II rats treated as drug controls receiving 250 mg/kg body weight of ACME orally; group III rats received DMH (20 mg/kg body weight) subcutaneously once a week for the first 15 weeks; groups IV, V and VI rats received ACME along with DMH during the initiation, post-initiation stages and the entire period of the study, respectively. All the rats were sacrificed at the end of 30 weeks and the intestinal and colonic tissues from different groups were subjected to biochemical and histological studies. Administration of DMH resulted in significant ($p{\leq}0.05$) intestinal and colonic lipid peroxidation (MDA) and reduction of antioxidants such as catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, glutathione-Stransferase and reduced glutathione. Whereas the supplementation of ACME significantly ($p{\leq}0.05$) improved the intestinal and colonic MDA and reduced glutathione levels and the activities of antioxidant enzymes in DMH intoxicated rats. ACME administration also significantly suppressed the formation and multiplicity of ACF. In addition, the DMH administered rats showed amplified expression of PCNA in the colon and decreased expression of this proliferative marker was clearly noted with initiation, post-initiation and entire period of ACME treatment regimens. These results indicate that ACME could exert a significant chemopreventive effect on colon carcinogenesis induced by DMH.

  • As the important of software quality has being emphasized, the studies on software architecture also have being performed actively. On the other hand, due to the diversification of Smartphone platforms, the effort was increased to develop the application for supporting those multiple platforms. However several solutions are suggested to reduce the effort, and a representative solution is FireMonkey framework. In this paper, we represent the FireMonkey framework using ACME which is a language to describe software architecture. Such representation can provide the guideline to develop the application for the multiple platforms. Also it supports the information of that which perspectives are critical to develop such applications.

  • Software architecture, which is the high level model of a software system, should be specified with ADLs (Architecture Description Languages) for its clarity and preciseness. Most of ADLs such as ACME, however, have not come into extensive use in industries since ADL users should learn a distinct notation specific to architecture. On the other hand, UML is a do facto standard general modeling language for software developments. UML provides a consistent notation and various supporting tools during the whole software development cycle. UML, being a general modeling language, does not provide all concepts that are important to architecture description. UML should be extended in order to precisely model architecture. A number of researches on architecture modeling based on WML have been progressed. Ail of them, however, are based on the UML1.x. UML2.0 embraces much more concepts that are important to architecture modeling than UML1.x. In this paper. we defined an architecture modeling language based on UML2.0. We defined Generic ADL by extending UML2.0 and applied the defined Generic ADL to a restaurant reservation system.

  • Effects of benzyladenine (BA) on viability, cell wall regeneration and division of soybean (Glycine max, Var. Acme) protoplasts isolated from suspension cells of cotyledonary callus were investigated. The uptake of BA by the protoplasts was also studied. BA increased protoplast viability, and promoted cell wall regeneration and cell division. The level of BA in protoplasts was increased to a maximum at about 20 hour incubation and 2/3 of the total amount of BA accumulated in protoplast was absorbed within 6 hours.

  • In this paper, we propose a new measure based on the confidence of Bayesian posterior probability so as to reduce unimportant information in the clustering process. Because the performance of clustering is up to selecting the important degree of attributes within the databases, the concept of information entropy is added to posterior probability for attributes discernibility. Hence, The same value of attributes in the confidence of the proposed measure is considerably much less due to the natural logarithm. Therefore posterior probability-based clustering algorithm selects the minimum of attribute reducts and improves the efficiency of clustering. Analysis of the validation of the proposed algorithms compared with others shows their discernibility as well as ability of clustering to handle uncertainty with ACME categorical data.

  • Objectives: This study analyzed the relationship between parental body mass index (BMI; BMI_p) and hypertension in their adolescent offspring (HTN_a), focusing on the mediating effect of adolescents' BMI (BMI_a). Methods: Utilizing data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, including participants aged 12-18, we conducted a mediation analysis while controlling for confounding factors such as age, sex, physical activity, dietary habits, household income quartile, and parents' alcohol and smoking habits. Results: The study included a total of 5731 participants, of whom 3381 and 5455 participants had data on fathers' and mothers' BMI, respectively. For adolescent systolic blood pressure (SBP_a), the father's BMI (BMI_f) had a significant total effect (β, 0.23; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.12 to 0.34) and average controlled mediated effect (ACME) (β, 0.27; 95% CI, 0.23 to 0.32), but the average direct effect (ADE) was not significant. The mother's BMI (BMI_m) had a significant total effect (β, 0.17; 95% CI, 0.09 to 0.25), ACME (β, 0.25; 95% CI, 0.22 to 0.28) and ADE (β, -0.08; 95% CI, -0.16 to 0.00). For adolescent diastolic blood pressure, both BMI_f and BMI_m had significant ACMEs (β, 0.10; 95% CI, 0.08 to 0.12 and β, 0.09; 95% CI, 0.07 to 0.12, respectively), BMI_m had a significant ADE (β, -0.09; 95% CI, -0.16 to -0.02) but BMI_f had an insignificant ADE and total effect. Conclusions: The study found that parental BMI had a significant effect on SBP_a, mediated through BMI_a. Therefore, a high BMI in parents could be a risk factor, mediated through BMI_a, for systolic hypertension in adolescents, necessitating appropriate management.

  • Off-line ship chartering is done nearly through the brokers. Because of the international scale of chartering market, brokers spend too much times and costs on searching the most appropriate product which the consumers want. In this research, we propose the on-line Charter Product Categorization Model to search the products efficiently in the Cyber Chartering System. This Model will make concerned parties of the ship chartering to get unified product information efficiently, and the select the most appropriate product. In this research, we classified the ship chartering products into categories of cargo, ship type, and sea routes, and defined mutual relation of each products, and we verified that this classification is necessary to search the products through the product searching experiment.
