A Novel Step-up AC-DC Converter with PFC by Discontinuous Current Control (전류불연속 제어에 의한 새로운 PFC 승압형 AC-DC 컨버터)

  • In this paper, authors propose a novel step-up AC-DC converter operated with power factor correction (PFC) and with high efficiency. The proposed converter behaves with discontinuous current control (DCC) of input current. The input current waveform in the proposed converter is got to be a discontinuous sinusoid form in proportion to magnitude of at input voltage under the constant duty cycle switching. Therefore, the input power factor is nearly unity and the control method is simple. In the general DCC converters, the switching devices are turned-on with the zero current switching (ZCS). But turn-off of the switching devices is done at the maximum current. To achieve a soft switching at turn-off, the proposed converter uses a new partial resonant circuit, which results in the very low switching loss and the high efficiency of converter.

PWM-based Integral Sliding-mode Controller for Unity Input Power Factor Operation of Indirect Matrix Converter

  • An indirect matrix converter (IMC) is a modern power generation system that enables a direct ac/ac conversion without the need for any bulky and limited lifetime electrolytic capacitor. This system also allows four-quadrant operation, generation of sinusoidal output voltage waveforms with variable frequency and amplitude, and control of input power factor. This study proposes a pulse-width modulation-based sliding-mode controller to achieve unity input-power factor operation of the IMC independently of the active power exchanged with the grid, as well as a fast dynamic response. The designed equivalent control law determines, at each sampling period, the appropriate q-axis component of the modulated input current to be injected into the grid through the LC input filter. An integral term of the error is included in the expression of the sliding surface to increase the accuracy of the control method. A double space vector modulation method is used to synthesize the direction of the space vector of the input currents as required by the sliding-mode controller and the space vectors of the target output voltages. Simulation and experimental results are provided to show the effectiveness and evaluate the performance of the proposed control method.

  • DC bus electrolytic capacitors are used in variety of equipments as smoothing element of the power converters because it has high capacitance for its size and low price. It is responsible for frequent breakdowns of many static converters and inverter drive systems. Therefore it is important to diagnosis monitoring the condition of an electrolytic capacitor in real-time to predict the failure of power converter. In this paper, the on-line remote diagnosis monitoring system for DC BUS electrolytic capacitors of power converter using low-cost type Zigbee communication modules is developed. To estimate the health status of the capacitor, the equivalent series resistor(ESR) of the component has to be determined. The capacitor ESR is estimated by using RMS computation using AC coupling method of DC link ripple voltage/current. The Zigbee communication-based experimental results show that the proposed remote DC capacitor diagnosis monitoring system can be applied to DC/DC converter and UPS successfully.

  • This paper presents a single-phase transformerless photovoltaic (PV) power converter systems based on the AC/DC boost inverter, which is capable of solving the leakage current and second-order ripple power issues. By eliminating the inherent ripple power in single-phase inverter, the bulky electrolytic capacitor can be replaced by a small film capacitor. The validity of the proposed scheme has been verified by the simulation results.

  • Various nonlinear loads such as diode rectifiers, and phase controlled converters connected to at source cause harmonic pollutions in ac mains. Recently some filters have been proposed to minimize the potential problems. This study describes a method to improve the performances of a voltage source active filter. Two feedback loops are used in the scheme : one for reactive power compensation and the other for harmonic eliminations.

Minimization of DC-Link Capacitance for NPC Three-level PWM Converters

  • This paper presents a control algorithm that minimizes the DC-link capacitance by decreasing the capacitor current. The capacitor current can be nullified by a feedback compensation term which is calculated from the power balance in the AC/DC converter. As a result, voltage variation in the DC-link is reduced further, which makes a large reduction in the size of DC-link capacitors which are expensive and have limitations in life time. Simulations are performed with two 80uF DC-link capacitors, which can be replaced by film capacitors.

  • In this paper the novel converter topology for the switched reluctance motor drives is proposed, which is composed of the minimum switch per phase and is connected to the single-phase voltage inverter for ac voltage source. The proposed converter topology is divided into two types according to the voltage source inverter of half bridge type and full bridge type. Proposed converters of two types are proposed, analyzed and compared with each other. The SRM using proposed converter maintain the hi인 efficiency though the power switches are reduced.

  • 본 논문은 댐핑 저항을 사용하지 않고 LCL필터를 사용한 계통 연계형 PWM 컨버터를 제어하기 위해 종속(cascade) 구조를 갖는 궤환선형화 제어기법을 제안한다. 제안된 제어 알고리즘은 2[MW] DFIG 풍력발전 시스템에 적용한 시뮬레이션과 3[kW] AC/DC PWM 컨버터에 적용한 실험을 통해 그 타당성이 검증된다.

  • AC to DC single phase PWM converter for traction application requires rated high power and voltage. Therefor, series or parallel operation converters are necessary with considering the limitation of the power device specification. This paper compares the characteristic between two parallel operation of conventional PWM converter and Single phase three level converter about comparison of power circuit, cooling system control method and harmonic current by computer simulation.

  • In foreign countries, high-efficiency electric machineries have been developed in view of cost reduction, environmental issues, energy conservation etc. Especially they focus on developing energy conservation measures and demand-side management. Thus, patent application and secure of patent claims are on the rise as important issues in this field. In this paper, we analyzed patent application trends about inverters, ac/dc converters, reactive power control equipments, high-efficiency transformers and electric ballasts among high-efficiency electric machineries. First, we analyzed general technology trends, and constructed patent technology data. Second, we graphed patent application trends in terms of application years, assignees and nations.
