  • The gas discharge AND gate which have been newly proposed is applied to three electrode surface discharge AC PDP. The address discharge characteristics by the DC-AC floating discharge by which Y electrode is made floating electrode is analyzed The address discharge can be begun by using the floating discharge from the experiment result Moreover, the display discharge can be sustained. The DC priming discharge that the floating discharge is matched to timing is generated in a supplementary electrode. As a result, space charge is supplied enough to the space of the floating discharge and the data voltage is lowered up to l00(V). Driving method to use this DC-AC floating discharge is able to obtain the address operation margin of l00(V).

  • The performance of ac plasma display panels (PDP) is influenced strongly by the surface glow discharge characteristics on the MgO thin films. This paper deals with the surface glow discharge characteristics and some physical properties of MgO thin films prepared by reactive RF planar unbalanced magnetron sputtering in connection with ac PDP. The samples prepared with dc bias voltage of -10V showed lower discharge voltage and lower erosion rate byion bombardment than those samples prepared by conventional magnetron sputtering or E-beam evaporation. The main factor that improves the discharge characteristics by bias voltage is considered to be due to the morphology changes or crystal structure of the MgO thin film by ion bombardement during deposition process.

  • Compare AC corona and DC corona treatment effects, polyester fabrics were AC corona treated with different current intensity (5, 10, 15 A) and feeding speed (5, 10, 15 m/min) as the same DC corona treatment conditions of the preceding research. We confirmed the surface change of polyester fabrics using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS), and the change of physical properties through measuring the dry and wet bonding strength. The surface changes of polyester fabrics by treating in air atmosphere with AC corona discharge are shown similar tendency with DC corona discharge. Generally dry bonding strength were increased with increasing current intensity and feeding speed, but wet bonding strength were increased with increasing current intensity and decreasing feeding speed in both AC and DC corona treatment. When the current is 20 A, carbonization occurs in DC corona discharge but carbonization does not occur in DC corona discharge.

  • In this paper, complex discharge type ozonizer with a screw type electrode has been designed and manufactured for environmental improvement using low power and high efficency ozoniazer. The complex discharge type ozonizer is equipped with three electrodes{central electrode(CE), internal electrode(IE) and external electrode(EE)}. Ozone of the complex discharge type ozonizer is generated by superposition of silent discharge and surface discharge in discharge space as a screw type CE and IE are respectively applied to AC high voltage of inverse-polarity has $180[^{\circ}]$ phase difference, EE is common electrode. In this time, when oxygen has been used as supplied gas, the maximum values of ozone concentration, ozone generation and ozone yield were obtained as 8,334[ppm], 3,249[mg/h] and 65.3[g/kwh].

  • The influence of the grooved dielectric layer on discharge and luminous characteristics has been investigated for various depths of the groove to achieve a high luminance efficiency AC-PDP operated at a lower voltage. We use the voltagethreshold curve technique and address delay jitters to explain the discharge characteristics. It shows that the surface discharge voltage rely on the depth of the grooved dielectric layer. Vertical discharge voltage remains almost the same as the groove depth increases. • A numerical analysis of the micro-discharge in an AC pplasma dispplay cell has been made using time-deppendent, 2-dimensional multi-fluid equations to understand the discharge pphysics of He-Xe discharge. The time deppendent distribution of the electron tempperature, densities of electrons, various ions and excited sppecies, and the effects fo the wall charge accumulated on the dielectric surface are obtained and comppared with the results of direct observation of time deppendent behavior of VUV and visible sppectra from single discharge cell observed using a gated, image intensified CCD to elucidate the discharge physics.

  • In order to study the relationship between the discharge characteristics of an ac PDP and the surface conductivity of MgO thin film, the surface current across a ring shaped MgO film was measured by exposure to monochromatic vacuum ultraviolet from the synchrotron radiation source whose wavelength ranges from 60nm to 240nm $(5.5eV{\sim}25eV)$. The experimental results show that the surface current begins to increase rapidly at the photon energy of about 9 eV which might correspond to the valence band edge of MgO. The difference in the surface current level correlate well with the differences in the preparation method of MgO films and their respective discharge characteristics such as the firing, minimum sustain voltages, address voltage margin and address discharge delay time.

  • As the temperature of the panel increases in AC-PDPs, the minimum driving voltage increases. Also, as the more the number of discharge increases in cells, the probability of the strong dark discharge in the reset period increases. In this study, we investigated the relationship between the lag time of the discharge and the mechanism of mis-discharges which are the black noise and bright noise. We conclude that the variation of time lag characterizes the properties of exo-electron emission from MgO. Thus, we found that the main factor of the mis-discharges is the rate of change of the electron emission ability from the MgO surface.
