A Synchronous-Reference-Frame-Based Control of Single-Phase UPQC for Improving Power Quality of AC Electrified Railway Systems (전기철도 급전시스템의 전기품질 향상을 위한 동기좌표계를 이용한 단상 UPQC의 제어)

  • This paper presents a synchronous-rotating-frame-based control of single-phase UPQC(Unified Power Quality Conditioner) to improve power quality in ac electrified railway systems. The simulation results show that the UPQC can compensate the harmonic supply voltages, the harmonic load currents, and the reactive power in electrified railway systems. Validity of the proposed UPQC control method based on the synchronous rotating frame is illustrated through the simulation results.

  • The AC electrified railway systems have the power quality problems such as the harmonic distortion, the reactive power and the three-phase imbalance because of the electrical load characteristics of locomotives, which are non-linear single-phase. These power quality problems have a bad effect on not only AC electrified railway systems but also other electric systems connected together. The RPQC (railway power quality conditioner) can compensate such power quality problems in the AC electrified railway systems. In this paper, a novel RPQC control method based on SRF (synchronous-reference-frame) control is proposed. The proposed RPQC control method can compensate effectively the harmonic currents, the reactive power and the load imbalance. The validity and the effectiveness of the proposed RPQC control method are illustrated through the simulations.

  • A load flow and short circuit fault simulation of AC electrified railway distribution systems is presented with DIgSILENT PowerFactory software. Load flow of electrified railways distribution system with concerning multi train lines and dynamic characteristics of train load is studied for different time laps. The dynamic characteristics of train load in starting and braking conditions with different starting and stopping times and its moving positions makes the load flow complicated so there is a great need in studying the effects of electrified railways on load flow. Short circuit fault transients is also studied and simulated for both power system or traction distribution system and their effects on the operation of the train sets is investigated.

  • This paper presents a synchronous-reference-frame-based control of single-phase UPQC(Unified Power Quality Conditioner) to improve power quality in ac electrified railway systems. The proposed synchronous-reference-frame-based UPQC can compensate the voltage distortion, the voltage sag, the harmonic currents, and the reactive power instantaneously. The simulation results show that the UPQC can compensate the harmonic supply voltages, the voltage sag, the harmonic load currents, and the reactive power in electrified railway systems. Validity and effectiveness of the proposed UPQC control method based on the synchronous-reference-frame is illustrated through the simulation results.

  • This paper presents the first simulation model using EMTDC program to analyze the electrified train voltage distribution characteristics in ac auto-transformer fed railroads. In general, all of the electrified train supply system has the characteristics that the train supply line is a naturally non-symmetrical and unbalanced system. Also, it is needed to model the Scott transformer which invert the balanced 3-phase quantity into 2-phase. Therefore, the general simulation methodology using previous simplified equivalent circuit or RMS based program can't obtain the accurate results to reflect the real-time operation because these methodology is basically assumed on completely 3-phase balanced system. To overcome these defects, in this paper, the EMTDC simulation model to analysis the completely electrified railroad system with Scott transformer and AC auto-transformer is presented. Also, the correctness of EMTDC modeling is confirmed by the old basic concepts and we think that this EMTDC model has the future powerful capability for application of railroad system analysis.

  • Generally, the AC electrified railway systems have the power quality problems that are induced from the harmonic currents and the reactive power. This paper presents a single-phase hybrid active filter adopting a SRF(synchronous-reference-frame) control for improving power quality in the AC electrified railway systems. The single-phase hybrid active filter can compensate the harmonic currents and the reactive power through the proposed SRF control algorithm. The proposed control algorithm can extract the third and fifth harmonics through the MSRF(multiple-synchronous-reference-frames) which is used to apply the three-phase systems. Therefore, the hybrid active filter can compensates only the high-frequency harmonic currents whereas the passive filter compensates the low-frequency harmonic currents. Also, the proposed SRF control algorithm can compensate the reactive power by the closed-loop control. The Validity and the effectiveness of the proposed SRF control method for the hybrid active filter are illustrated through the simulation results.

  • This paper analyzed the induced voltages on a telecommunication line due to high-speed a.c. electrified railway system. The induced voltages were measured by domestic regulation, 2 test lines with 2 km length were installed near railway in parallel to compare the influence for distance from disturbing line. The analysis was made on the induced voltages with the distance from railway, line length, and the different earthing point, and also on the waveform and spectrum distributions. The statistical induced voltages for the time for a day and dates was analyzed.

  • At the neutral sections, There are neutral sections inserted in overhead contact line between the substations to divide different phase current sections of AC electrified lines. Except convention line, a large stress occurs in the contact wire near the fittings under passing pantographs. So, in order to raise the train speed over 150km/h, a new type section has been adopted.

  • The electrified railway has various power supply schemes. Although the identical trains are operated in same condition and the impedance of track are equal, the genealogy impedance of track is changed according to composition method of feeding scheme. So, the collection voltage of train and supplying power from railway substation are greatly unlike. For simulation of collection voltage and power supply according to feeding scheme, using 6-port network analysis proposed previously simulate collection voltage and supply power according to feeding scheme(Parallel Post feeding system, normal feeding system and tie feeding system) and compare and investigate each characteristics.

  • This paper proposes analysis on new equipment for power quality in electric railway. The proposed equipment consists of series inverter and parallel inverter. Each inverter is connected by capacitor as dc link. This structure can be compensated for active and reactive power in catenary through transformer. We verified the proposed equipment using the PSCAD/EMTDC and the calculation results from the proposed approach are widely described in the paper.
