Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) can be efficiently used to transport packet data services. The switching system will support voice and packet data services simultaneously from end to end applications. To guarantee quality of service (QoS) of the offered services, source rateot send packet data is needed to control the network overload condition. Most existing control algorithms are shown to provide the threshold-based feedback control technique. However, real-time voice calls can be dynamically connected and released during data services in the network. If the feedback control information delays, quality of the serviced voice can be degraded due to a time delay between source and destination in the high speed link. An adaptive algorithm based on the optimal least mean square error technique is presented for the predictive feedback control technique. The algorithm attempts to predict a future buffer size from weight (slope) adaptation of unknown functions, which are used fro feedback control. Simulation results are presented, which show the effectiveness of the algorithm.

In high speed communication networks, the determination of a transmission rate is critical for the stability of a closed-loop network system with the congestion control scheme. In ATM networks, the available bit rate (ABR) service is based on a feedback mechanism, i.e., the network status is transferred to the ABR source by a resource management (RM) cell. RM cells contain the traffic information of the downstream nodes for the traffic rate control. However, the traffic status of the downstream nodes can not be directly transferred to the source node in the IP based networks. In this paper, a new rate-based congestion control scheme using an exponential weighted moving average algorithm is proposed to build an efficient feedback control law for congestion avoidance in high speed communication networks. The proposed congestion control scheme assures the stability of switch buffers and higher link utilization of the network. Moreover, we note that the proposed congestion scheme can flexibly work along with the increasing number of input sources in the network, which results in an improved scalability.

In this paper, we proposed the MAC protocol of APON supporting multi-class traffic such as CBBUVBR, ABR, UBR, to guarantee the required QoS of each service. For this, we analyze the performance of variousrequest mechanisms and employee the different request mechanism for each traffic classes. Upstream anddownstream frame structures to minimize transmission overhead are proposed based on our request mechanism. The proposed MAC protocol applies the different priority to permit distribution process. CBBWBR traffic, withthe stringent requirements on CDV or delay, is allocated prior to any other class. ABR traffic, which hasnon-strict CDV or delay criteria, uses flexibly the available bandwidth but ensures a minimum cell rate (MCR).UBR traffic is allocated with lowest priority for the remaining capacity. The performance of proposed protocol isevaluated in terms of transfer delay and 1-point CDV with various offered load. The result of simulation showsthat the proposed protocol guarantees the required QoS of the corresponding category, while making use of theavailable resources in both an efficient and dynamical way.

A network of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) will be required to carry the traffics(CVR, VBR, UBR, ABR) generated by a wide range of services. The algorithm of WRR cell multiplexing is designed to serve no only CBR, VBR traffic but also ABR, UBR traffic in ATM. BSW algorithm was Proposed to carry on manage buffer efficiently at implementing of WRR scheduler. But, BSW a1gorithm cause serious degradation to the weight of each VC and the ratio of scheduler throughput because it allocates more weight than the weight allocated actually in VC and because it could not serve cell if the VC queue is empty. In this paper, we propose the WRR scheduling algorithm of BSW structure which improves the cell service ratio and cell delay. The proposed algorithm is capable of maintaining an allocated VC's weight correctly and decrease of average cell delay by serving other VC cell when empty in each VC queue and increase of cell service ratio as a whole.
This paper proposes the MAC scheme based on variable reservation slots for the guaranteed QoS of ATM services on RF and evaluates the performance. This scheme has improved the utilization of channel and success ratio of reservation by using the variable number of RES(REServation) slots according to the collisions. It is the results of performance evaluation that the CTD of CBR Service is 7.9ms with overall $load(\rho)$ 85%. And also VBR service of it is 3.5ms, ABR service of it is 9.8ms with overall load 85%.
The Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP(DASH) is envisioned to evolve to meet an increasing demand on providing seamless video streaming services in the near future. The DASH performance heavily depends on the client's adaptive quality selection algorithm that is not included in the standard. The existing conventional algorithms are basically based on a procedural algorithm that is not easy to capture and reflect all variations of dynamic network and traffic conditions in a variety of network environments. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a novel quality selection mechanism based on the Deep Q-Network(DQN) model, the DQN-based DASH Adaptive Bitrate(ABR) mechanism. The proposed mechanism adopts a new reward calculation method based on five major performance metrics to reflect the current conditions of networks and devices in real time. In addition, the size of the consecutive video segment to be downloaded is also considered as a major learning metric to reflect a variety of video encodings. Experimental results show that the proposed mechanism quickly selects a suitable video quality even in high error rate environments, significantly reducing frequency of quality changes compared to the existing algorithm and simultaneously improving average video quality during video playback.
In recent years, the predominant part in telecommunications is mobile communications. The next generation network is extending today's voice-only mobile networks to multi-service networks. ATM Network is possible to carry such multi-media traffic and it will be expect to use wireless ATM for the future mobile access network. One of manly important aspects for the performance of wireless ATM is the Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol. The MAC protocol must be able to satisfyingly handle the different ATM services (CBR, VBR, ABR and UBR) with their radically different performance requirements. Additionally, the MAC protocol must be able to cope with the complex radio environment where fading, multi-path propagation interference and burst-errors further complicate the situation. In this paper, a dynamic slot allocation algorithm in wireless ATM is proposed for an efficient channel sharing/media access at the MAC layer. We use equivalent capacity in the allocation of slots for VBR traffic which is variable along the time. It is simple and effective slot allocation method for VBR service. In particular, we consider the slot allocation of a session consisted of several connections for requirement of multimedia traffic. Simulation shows that the cell loss ratio is reduced by re-allocation of extra slots in Mobile Terminal (MT).

In the wireless ATM networks, a Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol is required to support an integrated mix of multimedia traffic services. The MAC protocol should be designed in a way that the limited wireless bandwidth can be efficiently utilized maximizing the Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees for various traffic service classes. In this paper, a Dynamic Resource Allocation-based MAC protocol, which satisfies QoS of each traffic service class in the wireless ATM environment, is proposed. The proposed MAC protocol adopts the dynamic channel allocation schemes for a mix of different traffic service classes. The suggested MAC protocol is designed to provide the QoS guarantees for Constant Bit Rate (CBR) or real-time Variable Bit Rate (VBR) traffic through fixed or dynamic reservation. For Available Bit Rate (ABH) traffic, which has the lowest priority among the traffic classes, large improvement in delay by reserving the minimum bandwidth is shown. And for real-time VBR traffic, increase in throughput of transmission is demonstrated because of bandwidth, which is allocated through contention at the initial phase and without contention thereafter.
