  • Suppression subtractive hybridization was used to isolate wound-induced genes from soybean. One of the wound-induced genes, gmwi143 designated as GmCCR, showed high homology with genes encoding cinnamoyl-CoA reductase (CCR; EC 1.2.1.44). Deduced amino acid sequences encoded by GmCCR showed the highest identity (77%) with those of Acacia CCR. There are 2 CCR genes highly homologous to GmCCR in soybean genome based on Phytozome DB analysis. RNA expression of GmCCR was specifically induced by local and systemic wounding, drought, high salinity or by ultraviolet stress. Our study suggests that GmCCR may be involved in resistance mechanism during abiotic stresses in plants.

  • In the development of an underwater construction robot, the reliability of the operating system is the most important issue because of its huge maintenance cost, especially in a deep sea application. In this paper, we propose a new redundant architectural design for the hydraulic control system of an underwater construction robot. The proposed architecture consists of dual independent modular redundancy management systems linked with a commercial profibus network. A cold standby redundancy management system consisting of a preprocessing switch circuit is applied to the signal network, and a hot standby redundancy management system is adapted to utilize two main controllers.

  • A noisy behavior of the time domain passivity controller during the period of low velocity is analyzed. Main reasons of the noisy behavior are investigated through a simulation with a one-DOF (Degree of Freedom) haptic interface model. It is shown that the PO/PC is ineffective in dissipating the produced energy when the sign of the velocity, which is numerically calculated from the measured position, is suddenly changed, and when this velocity is zero. These cases happen during the period of low velocity due to the limited resolution of the position sensor. New methods, ignoring the produced energy from the velocity sign change, and holding the control force while the velocity is zero, are proposed for removing the noisy behavior. The feasibility of the developed methods is proved with both a simulation and a real experiment.

  • In the present work a finite element formulation using dynamic explicit time integration scheme is used for numerical analysis of auto-body panel stamping processes. The lumping scheme is employed for the diagonal mass matrix and linearizing dynamic formulation. A contact scheme is developed by combining the skew boundary condition and direct trial-and-error method. In this work, for economic analysis the faster punch velocity and the mass scaling method are introduced. To investigate the effects of punch velocity and mass scaling, the various values of punch velocity and the various mass scalings are used for numerical analysis. Computations are carried out for analysis of complicated auto-body panel stamping processes such as forming of an oil pan and a fuel tank.

  • This paper presents a compact and low-power on-chip touch sensor and readout circuit using shunt proximity touch sensor and its design scheme. In the proposed touch sensor readout circuit, the touch panel condition depending on the proximity of the finger is directly converted into the corresponding voltage level without additional signal conditioning procedures. Furthermore, the additional circuitry including the comparator and the flip-flop does not consume any static current, which leads to a low-power design scheme. A new prototype touch sensor readout integrated circuit was fabricated using complementally metal oxide silicon (CMOS) $0.18{\mu}m$ technology with core area of $0.032mm^2$ and total current of $125{\mu}A$. Our measurement result shows that an actual 10.4 inches capacitive type touch screen panel (TSP) can detect the finger size from 0 to 1.52 mm, sharply.

  • In this paper, we demonstrate the capabilities of 380-nm ultraviolet (UV) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) using metal organic chemical vapor deposition. The epi-structure of these LEDs consists of InGaN/AlGaN multiple quantum wells on a patterned sapphire substrate, and the devices are fabricated using a conventional LED process. The LEDs are packaged with a type of surface mount device with Al-metal. A UV LED can emit light at 383.3 nm, and its maximum output power is 118.4 mW at 350 mA.

  • This paper deals with a $3{\phi}$ rectifier unit for telecommunication system. The rectifier unit is developed to Cope with the step-up of the AC input voltatage from 220V to 380V. By using a buck-type converter in the front-end, it keeps the input power factor high and reduces the voltage ripple in the dc output. It also has a very wide voltage regulation range, which lets the unit be applied for both the 220V and 380V input system. The study includes the power conversion scheme, control strategy, snubber circuit and finally, experimental results.

  • We report a case of fatal duret hemorrhage (DH) in a patient with acute tentorial subdural hematoma and bilateral chronic subdural hematoma along the cerebral hemispheres. Preoperative CT angiography (CTA) revealed prominent parenchymal enhancement in the ventral pontomesencephalic area. After burr-hole drainage, a large hemorrhage developed in this area. The parenchymal enhancement in the CTA may reflect the pontomensencephalic perforating vessel injury, and may be a sign of impending DH of acute transtentorial downward herniation. Previous use of aspirin and warfarin might have potentiated the process of DH and increase the extent of the bleed.

  • MMC was developed that had distinguished mechanical properties and light weighted. MMC has excellent mechanical properties in many ways in automotive industrial, and get into the spotlight as a light materials substituted for iron and steel. But the know-how about MMC research lack, MMC is expensive and difficult to apply the sound parts. Especially it is difficult to produce the hollow type parts composed with MMC. Therefore, hollow type parts of metal matrix composites by thixoforging process which as co-existing solidus-liquidus phase, it is very important to obtain forming condition. In this study, used materials were A357, A380, A380 $10\%$vol, and $20\%$vol SiCp, and the size of particulates were $14{\mu}m$ and $5.5{\mu}m$

  • Bacterial meningitis is rarely complicated by an intradural spinal abscess, and recurrent meningitis is an uncommon presentation of a spinal intramedullary abscess. Here, we report a 63-year-old patient with recurrent meningitis as the first manifestation of an underlying spinal intramedullary abscess. To the best of our knowledge, no previous report has been issued on recurrent meningitis accompanied by a spinal intramedullary abscess in an adult. In this article, the pathophysiological mechanism of this uncommon entity is discussed and the relevant literature reviewed.
