A BERT-Based Automatic Scoring Model of Korean Language Learners' Essay

  • This research applies a pre-trained bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT) handwriting recognition model to predict foreign Korean-language learners' writing scores. A corpus of 586 answers to midterm and final exams written by foreign learners at the Intermediate 1 level was acquired and used for pre-training, resulting in consistent performance, even with small datasets. The test data were pre-processed and fine-tuned, and the results were calculated in the form of a score prediction. The difference between the prediction and actual score was then calculated. An accuracy of 95.8% was demonstrated, indicating that the prediction results were strong overall; hence, the tool is suitable for the automatic scoring of Korean written test answers, including grammatical errors, written by foreigners. These results are particularly meaningful in that the data included written language text produced by foreign learners, not native speakers.

A within-subject comparison of short implants in the posterior region: retrospective study of up to 10 years

  • Purpose. This intra-patient retrospective study of up to 10 years evaluated the clinical success and risk factors of 6- and 8-mm long implants and their respective prostheses. Materials and Methods. The sample consisted of patients treated at a Military Polyclinic dental service, who received both 6- and 8-mm long tissue level implants in the posterior region of the same arch. Data were collected from the dental charts, clinical and radiographic exams, self-report of sleep bruxism, measurement of maximum occlusal force, and clinical crown-to-implant (C/I) ratio. Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics with univariate and hierarchical multivariate models, at the 0.05 significance level. Results. The 30 patients (27 women) had 85 implants and 83 prostheses. Two implants were lost before prosthesis installation (implant survival: 97.6%). Ten events of prosthetic complication (screw tightening loss) occurred in five patients (success rate: 87.9%) in a single moment. Only the variable C/I ratio had a significant effect for repairable prosthesis complication (P<.05). Conclusion. The results suggest that 6- and 8-mm long implants have similar long-term clinical success for implants and prostheses.

초등학생의 과학 경험과 과학 학습 동기에 대한 연구 (A Study on Scientific Experience and Motivation to Learn Science of Elementary Students)

  • This research examined the elementary students' level of motivation to learn science and analyzed correlation between scientific experiences and the motivations to learn science. 216 of elementary students in the 5th grade and 207 of elementary students in the 6th grade were surveyed with questionnaire composed of Likert criteria and scientific motivation questionnaire(SMQ), and the results were analyzed by SPSS 18.0 statistics program. The results of this research are as following : First, elementary school students' level of scientific experiences appeared quite low, and boys appeared to have more scientific experiences than girls. For more specific areas, the experiences were more from outside of school rather than inside, and experiences from science class. Second, elementary students' level of motivation to learn science stood relatively high, and boys showed higher level of motivation to learn science than girls. For more specific areas, the level of motivation from internal motivation area was the highest and the lowest was that from the area of anxiety about exams. Third, the scientific experiences and motivation to learn science showed highly static correlation. Experiences both from inside and outside of the school were significantly correlated to the motivation to learn science, and those from outside of the school had higher correlation with the motivation to learn science. Therefore, the scientific experiences should be recognized to play an important role for improvement of the level of motivation to learn science, and the efforts should be made to provide the elementary students with high-quality scientific experiences to develop their level of motivation to learn science.

한국 창작뮤지컬 관람동기의 중요도 연구 (A Study on IPA of Spectator Motivation in the Korean Creative Musical)

  • 본 논문은 한국창작 뮤지컬의 활성화를 위해 한국 창작 뮤지컬의 관람동기에 관한 중요도 연구이다. 중요도 분석(IPA, Importance Performance Analysis)는 다 속성 모델의 각 속성의 상대적인 중요도와 성취도를 동시에 비교 분석하는 평가기법이다. 이 분석은 고객들이 중시하는 요소와 이들 요소에 대한 고객의 만족도를 매트릭스 상의 좌표로 표시하여 식별하는 방법으로 고객만족은 특성 속성에 대한 고객의 기대수준과 그러한 속성에 대한 실행도에 의해 결정된다. 이 분석법을 통해 본 연구는 한국 창작뮤지컬 관람동기 속성의 중요도와 만족도를 알아보았다.

  • P2P 방식의 자료 공유 서비스의 효율성은 공유 목록의 유지 관리 기법에 의하여 좌우된다. 본 논문에서는 공유 자료 목록을 클라이언트에 보유하는P2P 기반의 자료 공유 시스템을 제안한다. 제안된 시스템에서의 서버는 여러 개의 그룹으로 나누어진 클라이언트들을 통합 관리하고 각 개별 그룹에서 TopHost로 지정된 클라이언트가 해당 그룹의 자료 공유 목록을 관리하는 방식을 이용한다. TopHost는 자료 공유 목록의 유지 관리뿐만 아니라 그룹의 합병과 분할의 경우에도 서버와 연동하여 이를 실행하도록 설계하였다. 제안된 시스템의 효율성은 적정 수준의 클라이언트로 구성된 그룹의 유지 관리가 핵심적이며 이를 측정하기 위한 실험을 실제 수행되는 자료 공유 서비스를 통하여 실험하였다.

Effect of a Training Programme on Knowledge of Nurses from a Missionary Hospital in India Regarding Breast Cancer and its Screening

  • A cross-sectional study was conducted among nursing staff of a missionary hospital of Delhi in June 2009. All the nurses were invited to participate in the training programme on breast cancer and techniques of breast self examination (BSE). A questionnaire was administered to all 259 participants seeking information on their level of awareness regarding breast cancer and relevant screening guidelines. With the help of 5 training workshops all the nurses were imparted training regarding the most appropriate technique of doing breast self exams. The mean age of the participants was 35.8 years. Out of a total of 259 nursing staff members 77.2% correctly answered all the 10 questions regarding high risk factors for breast cancer and after the training programme this increased to 100% (p<0.05). Only 65.2% of the participants gave correct responses to all the 8 questions regarding correct technique of performing a BSE, which after the training programme increased to 99.3% (p<0.05). At the baseline only 56.8% knew all the three screening methods correctly and after the intervention 98.7% could correctly mark the responses regarding screening (p<0.05). The actual practice of following the screening guidelines amongst the nursing staff was poor. Only 26 (10.03%) had ever done a BSE, none performed it monthly, 58 (22.4%) had ever gone themselves for a CBE and 18 (6. 94%) had ever undergone mammography.

Characteristics and Nutritional Status of Elders Who Under-report Intake on 24 Hour Recalls in USA

  • The objectives of this study were to determine whether older Americans would provide valid energy intake information using a 24-hr recall method and to determine which characteristics were predictive of under-report of energy intake. We conducted 24-hour recalls on 83 male and 105 female community-dwelling older adults(66-87y) in the USA to assess energy(EI) and nutrient intakes. Basal metabolic rate(BMR) was calculated from age-and gender-specific equations of Schofield. Under-reporting was defined a priori as EI : BMR<0.9. Subjects volunteered demographic information, underwent depression and cognition exams, and completed a Level II Nutrition Risk Screen. Differences between under- and adequate-reporters were assessed using t-tests for characteristics and macro-nutrient profile. Stepwise regression analyses were used to predict under-reporting status. Under-reporting of EI occurred in 34% of the sample. Neither geriatric depression scale(GDS) score, nor self-reported weight loss were related to under-reporting. On average, under-reporters had higher body mass indices. The most significant variables for the main effect to predict the ratio of energy intake to estimated basal metabolic rate(EI : BMRest) were BMI and age. Using a standard cut-off of 76% of the recommended dietary allowances for Americans, under-reporters were consistently more likely to be classified as having inadequate nutrient, as well as energy, intakes. D대학교 치과위생사 국가시험 합격의 변인에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Variables of Success in the National Dental Hygienist Licence Examination at D College)

  • 본 연구는 2011년 11월 14일부터 11월 25일까지 강원도에 위치한 D대학교의 치위생과 3학년 재학생 중 120명을 대상으로 치과위생사 국가시험 합격의 변인에 대하여 조사 분석하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS WIN 13.0 프로그램과 R 2. 13. 2 프로그램을 이용하여, $x^2$(Chi-square) 검증, 회귀분석, Multiple linear Regression, Logistic Regression 등을 실시하였으며, 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 전공에 대한 만족도, 학업성적, 모의고사 성적이 높은 학생이 많이 합격하는 경향을 보였다. 2. 학업성적과 모의고사 성적은 양의 상관관계를 보였다. 3. 학업성적 평균과 전공에 대한 만족도가 같은 경우, 모의고사성적 평균이 1점 증가하면 국가시험에 합격할 확률은 불합격할 확률에 비해 1.141배 증가하였다. 본 연구결과, 치과위생사 국가시험 합격에 가장 많은 영향을 미치는 변인은 모의고사 성적으로 나타난 바, 국가시험 준비 시 모의고사 성적이 낮은 학생을 우선적으로 집중 지도 관리하여야 할 것으로 생각된다.

비대면 강의환경에서의 온라인 학습패턴과 학습 효과의 상관관계 연구 (A study on the Correlation of between Online Learning Patterns and Learning Effects in the Non-face-to-face Learning Environment)

  • 코로나19로 인해서 비대면 강의환경에서 온라인 학습이 교육환경의 주요 학습기법으로 채택되고 있다. 온라인 학습패턴이 학업성적에 어떤 영향을 미치는지에 관한 연구가 부족하여, 본 연구에서는 학습자들의 온라인 동영상 학습횟수와 시간을 주요 요소로 두고, 매 학습에 대한 형성 평가와 함께 중간고사 기말고사를 바탕으로 학습효과의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 분석 대상은 대학에서 예체능 학부 학생들이 가장 어려워하는 교양 과목 중 컴퓨터 프로그래밍 교과목을 분석하였다. 실제 학생들의 사례를 분석한 결과 매주 실시한 형성 평가와 학습회수, 학습 시간과는 상관관계가 없는 것으로 나타났고, 중간고사와 기말고사와는 평소 학습회수(r=.39 p<0.05)와 학습 시간(r=.42 p<0.05)이 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 강의 진행 과정에서 SMS 문자, 게시판, 메일 등의 요소는 모든 학생이 접하지 못하여 제외하였으므로, 앞으로는 좀 더 다양한 요인을 고려하여 비대면 강의환경에서의 학습자 패턴을 분석하고 연구한다면 학습자들의 요구와 학습효과를 향상할 수 있을 것이다.

Exploring Effects of Perceived Justice and Motivation on Satisfaction in Higher Education

  • Purpose - For many Vietnamese students, the national high school graduation examination is one of the most important exams in their lives, transitioning from high school to tertiary education. Considering that the national examination is exceptionally important for admission of higher education, failure of management system and educational inequalities lead to serious academic concerns. By using the concept of justice and motivation, the current study aimed to explore the effects of justice dimensions and motivation on student satisfaction in the context of education, specifically focusing on the national examination for higher education. Research design, data and methodology - In this regard, this study proposed a conceptual model and conducted an online survey to test relevant hypotheses. Result - The empirical findings of the study found that procedural, distributive justice, and intrinsic motivation affected the level of student satisfaction. The results found that distributive and procedural justice and intrinsic motivation showed significant on satisfaction. Conclusion - The results of this study would be useful for policymakers to make more informed choices and also suggest further programs and projects of the Vietnamese government, aiming to develop the system of university admissions in the future. This study suggests that adoption of better management system and policies will significantly affect academic satisfaction and higher education environment.
