  • The effects of thermal treatment on CNTs, which were coated with a-$CN_x$ thin film, were investigated and related to variations of chemical bonding and morphologies of CNTs and also properties of field emission induced by thermal treatment. CNTs were directly grown on nano-sized conical-type tungsten tips via the inductively coupled plasma-chemical vapor deposition (ICP-CVD) system, and a-$CN_x$ films were coated on the CNTs using an RF magnetron sputtering system. Thermal treatment on a-$CN_x$ coated CNT-emitters was performed using a rapid thermal annealing (RTA) system by varying temperature ($300-700^{\circ}C$). Morphologies and microstructures of a-$CN_x$/CNTs hetero-structured emitters were analyzed by FESEM and HRTEM. Chemical composition and atomic bonding structures were analyzed by EDX, Raman spectroscopy, and XPS. The field emission properties of the a-$CN_x$/CNTs hetero-structured emitters were measured using a high vacuum (below $10^{-7}$ Torr) field-emission measurement system. For characterization of emission stability, the fluctuation and degradation of the emission current were monitored in terms of operation time. The results were compared with a-$CN_x$ coated CNT-emitters that were not thermally heated as well as with the conventional non-coated CNT-emitters.

  • It is well-known that an analytic generic CR submainfold M of codimension m in Cn+m is locally transformed by a biholomorphic mapping to a plane Cn$\times$Rm ⊂ Cn$\times$Cm whenever the Levi form L on M vanishes identically. We obtain such a normalizing biholomorphic mapping of M in terms of the defining function of M. Then it is verified without Frobenius theorem that M is locally foliated into complex manifolds of dimension n.

  • The goal of this study is to apply and evaluate the precipitation outflow in river basin using satellite data and GIS for proposing the efficient watershed management method. Not only precipitation outflow data but also various spatial data such as digital map, soil map, geologic map and multi-temporal TM images were used. Using landcover classification result and soil map were applied to estimate the average CN. The CN value of 63.37 by SCS method was produced in AMC-2 condition otherwise the result of direct estimation with observation method was 63 CN value. The relative error of two results was 0.59%. It can be possible to apply the satellite data for precipitation outflow analysis. For more accurate and credible analysis of this, the more multi-temporal satellite and real observation data will be needed.

  • The aims of this study was to optimize the extraction conditions of sinigrin from Dolsan leaf mustard. Dolsan leaf mustard (Dolsan-eup, Yeosu-si) harvested during at May 2014 was used for sinigrin extraction. After the extraction of sinigrin using 50% $CH_3CN$, 10% $NH_4Cl$, 60% $CH_2OH$, and 70% $CH_3OH$, the sinigrin content was measured by HPLC analysis. The results showed that sinigrin content was highest with 50% $CH_3CN$ solvent extraction and UV detector sensitivity was greater at 228 nm rather than at 242 nm. The sinigrin concentrations of leaf, stem and root with 50% $CH_3CN$ extraction were 345 ppm, 728 ppm, and 539 ppm, respectively. After extraction of the different parts of Dolsan leaf mustard, The standard retention time by HPLC analysis of sinigrin content was 2.054, 2.032, 2.059, and 2.035 min from the root, stalk, and leaf, respectively. On the other hand, HPLC analysis showed that the leaf extracts contained glucoraphanin, one of glucosinolates. The optimum time and extraction solvent for the sinigrin extraction from Dolsan leaf mustard was found to be 24 hr with 50% $CH_3CN$ solvent. In addition, opotimum UV detector k at 228 nm. These results showed that the optimum extraction conditions for Dolsan leaf mustard were 24 hr extraction with 50% $CH_3CN$ solvent. In addition, the optimum wavelength of UV detector was determined to be 228 nm for sinigrin analysis. Therefore, this study could provide a useful information for sinigrin extraction and its systematic analysis during the storage.

  • $Fe_4[Fe(CN)_6]_3$ coated on a mica or $TiO_2$/mica surface as infrared reflective blue pigment was prepared by a hydrothermal method. $Fe_4[Fe(CN)_6]_3$, used as coloring agent, was uniformly coated on mica or $TiO_2$/mica under the optimized condition of a 1.2 : 1 weight ratio between iron(III) chloride hexahydrate and potassium ferrocyanidetrihydrate at the initial pH level of 4.5 at $70^{\circ}C$. The infrared (IR)-reflective pigments were characterized by SEM, Zeta-potenial, FT-IR, and UV-VIS NIR spectrophotometry. Especially the CIE color coordinate and total solar reflectance(TSR) properties of the pigments were investigated in relation to variation of the coating and coated substrate thicknesses. Isolation-heat paint was prepared with 20 wt% blue pigments fully dispersed in acryl-urethane resin and several additives to coat the film uniformly. The films were also measured with CIE color coordinate, TSR, and the surface temperature was recorded by an isolation-heat measuring system. The pigments and films of $Fe_4[Fe(CN)_6]_3$ coated on mica and $TiO_2$/mica showed high TSR values compared with the TSR value of $Fe_4[Fe(CN)_6]_3$ itself. According to the increase of TSR value, the property of isolation-heat is effective. To realize the optimal blue color, we applied the the pigment to $TiO_2$ coated mica(TM(b)) which has blueish interference color. The pigment of $Fe_4[Fe(CN)_6]_3$ coated on TM(b) shows a strong blue color compared with that of $Fe_4[Fe(CN)_6]_3$ coated on $TiO_2$/Mmca(TM(w)), which has a whitish interference color.

  • The NRCS-CN (Natural Resources Conservation Service-Curve Number) method has been practically applied for estimating the effective precipitation. However, there are no criteria which reflect the geographic characteristics of Korea having more than 70% of mountainous and rice paddy areas, leading to significant errors in runoff calculation. Thus, it is required to estimate the runoff curve number considered Korea land use classification, however there are practical difficulties to conduct the accurate research and experimentation. In this study, after selecting target areas (urban, agriculture, forest), we performed the runoff analysis to redetermine CN values for the selected basins. To do this, curve numbers for soil type A were estimated using genetic algorithm, and then curve numbers for soil type (B, C, D) were estimated using CN aligner equation. Comparing the initial curve numbers with the estimated curve numbers, it was observed that the slightly differences at Chunwang(0), Choonyang(-1), Janggi(-3). Through the above process, this study proposed new curve numbers to reflect observed rainfall-runoff.

  • The presence of multiple stellar populations is now well established in most globular clusters (GCs) in the Milky Way. The origin of this phenomenon, however, is yet to be understood. In this respect, the study of NGC 2808, an intriguing GC which hosts subpopulations with extreme helium abundances, would help to resolve this problem. In order to investigate chemical abundance patterns among different subpopulations in this GC, we have performed low-resolution spectroscopy for the red-giant-branch (RGB) stars and measured CN & CH bands, and Ca line strength. We have identified at least three subpopulations from the CN abundance distribution. This GC shows CN-CH anti-correlation following the general trend among "normal" GCs. In addition, we have cross-matched our results with the high-resolution data in literature, and found a tight correlation between CN strength and sodium abundance. However, CN is anticorrelated with oxygen abundance, as expected from the well known N(&Na)-O anticorrelation. In this talk, we will discuss the implication of these results.

  • The impact of free cyanide ($CN^-$) and thiocyanate ($SCN^-$) on the $CN^-$ (CDO) and $SCN^-$ degraders (TDO) to nitrify and denitrify aerobically was evaluated under alkaline conditions. The CDO's were able to nitrify under cyanogenic conditions, achieving $NH_4{^+}-N$ removal rates above 1.66 mg $NH_4{^+}-N.L^{-1}.h^{-1}$, except when $CN^-$ and $SCN^-$ loading was 15 mg $CN^-/L$ and 50 mg $SCN^-.L^{-1}$, respectively, which slightly inhibited nitrification. The TDO's were able to achieve a nitrification rate of 1.59 mg $NH_4{^+}-N.L^{-1}.h^{-1}$ in the absence of both $CN^-$ and $SCN^-$, while the presence of $CN^-$ and $SCN^-$ was inhibitory, with a nitrification rates of 1.14 mg $NH_4{^+}-N.L^{-1}.h^{-1}$. The CDO's and TDO's were able to denitrify aerobically, with the CDO's obtaining $NO_3{^-}-N$ removal rates above 0.67 mg $NO_3{^-}-N.L^{-1}.h^{-1}$, irrespective of the tested $CN^-$ and $SCN^-$ concentration range. Denitrification by the TDO's was inhibited by $CN^-$, achieving a removal rate of 0.46 mg $NO_3{^-}-N.L^{-1}.h^{-1}$ and 0.22 mg $NO_3{^-}-N.L^{-1}.h^{-1}$ when $CN^-$ concentration was 10 and 15 mg $CN^-.L^{-1}$, respectively. However, when the CDO's and TDO's were co-cultured, the nitrification and aerobic denitrification removal rates were 1.78 mg $NH_4{^+}-N.L^{-1}.h^{-1}$ and 0.63 mg $NO_3{^-}-N.L^{-1}.h^{-1}$ irrespective of $CN^-$ and $SCN^-$ concentrations.

  • This study explored the relationship between connectedness to nature (CN) and belief on consequences (social, economic, and ecological) of establishing cable car and supportiveness to its establishment in a natural park. It also examined the relationship between socio-demographic and visiting characteristics and CN. Data were collected from 134 visitors in Mudeungsan Provincial Park (MPP) in September, 2010 through field questionnaire survey. CN was measured by using a connectedness to nature scale (CNS) revised from the Mayer and Frantz's (2004) original CNS. CN consisted of two factors: interdependence and independence. CN increased as respondents' age, education level, number of visits to MPP and number of visits to Jungbong area of MPP increase. Respondents with higher CN ratings showed stronger beliefs on negative consequences of the cable car establishment. CN, however, was not related with beliefs on positive consequences of establishing cable cars. Respondents with higher CN showed lower support about establishing cable cars.

  • The activated sludge obtained from wastewater coke oven plant was immobilized by entrapment with polyethylene glycol (PEG). The effects of several factors on the biodegradation of $CN^-$ from. synthetic wastewater were investigated using batch and continuous reactors. The degradation rate of $CN^-$ increased with increasing of the immobilized bead volume in the reactor. Approximately 7.65mg/L of $NH_4-N$ was produced upon the degradation of 35mg/L of $CN^-$. When high concentrations of the toxic cyanide complex were used in the testing of cyanide degradation, the free activated sludge could be inhibited more than that of the immobilized activated sludge. When the phenol concentration was higher than 400mg/L in the synthetic wastewater, approximately 98.4% of $CN^-$ was removed within 42 hours by the immobilized activated sludge. However, the cyanide was not completely degraded by the tree activated sludge. This indicates that high phenol concentrations can act as a toxic factor for the free activated sludge. A $CN^-$ concentration of less than 1mg/L was achieved by the immobilized sludge at the loading rate of 0.025kg $CN^-/m^3-d$. Moreover, it was found that the HRT should be kept for 48 hours in order to obtain stable treatment conditions.
