Characteristics of Ice Wine Fermentation of Freeze-Concentrated Campbell Early Grape Juice by S. cerevisiae S13 and D8 Isolated from Korean Grapes (포도로부터 분리한 S. cerevisiae S13 및 D8에 의한 캠벨 얼리 동결농축 과즙의 아이스와인 발효 특성)

  • Cryoextraction (a freeze concentration using an instrument) can increase the sugar concentration in grape juice by reducing its water content, similar to the natural freezing of grapes for natural ice wine. In this study, fermentation of freeze-concentrated Campbell Early grape (Vitis labruscana) juice to 36 $^{\circ}Bx$ was carried out using Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains D8 and S13 isolated from Korean grapes. During the fermentation, strains S13 and D8 showed rapid sugar reduction and alcohol production compared with S. cerevisiae Fermivin$^{(R)}$ used as a control. After nine-day fermentation, the residual sugar contents were lower in W13(9.77%) and D8 wine(9.07) than that in Fermivin$^{(R)}$ wine(14.0%). Total acid content was high in the D8>S13>Fermivin$^{(R)}$ wine, in that order. The acetaldehyde content was highest in the D8 wine and lowest in the Fermivin$^{(R)}$ wine, among the three. The methanol content was slightly higher in the S13 and D8 wines than in the Fermivin$^{(R)}$ wine. In the sensory evaluation, the S13 wine exhibited the highest score in flavor and taste among the three wines. Both the two S13 and D8 wines exhibited higher scores than Fermivin$^{(R)}$ wine in overall preference.

  • Two mammalian receptors are reported (MT1A and MT1B). In this experiments, MT1A is expressed at a little enhanced level (about 8 times) in hypothalamus of the 9 hours exposed mice. In other part of the brain, the expression level of the MT1A and MT1B is elevated at nearly same level: 16 times in cerebellum, 128 times in hippocampus and in thalamus, respectively. But MT1B is expressed at very high level (about thousand times) in hypothalamus of the 9 hours exposed mice.

  • For fluoro-quinolone carboxylic acid derivatives, one bond carbon-fluorine coupling constants are ranged from 249 Hz to 257 Hz regardless of positions. But geminal and vicinal carbon-fluorine coupling constants vary according to positions, namely, geminal coupling constants are ranged from 6 Hz to 23 Hz, and vicinal coupling constants are ranged from 1.9 Hz to 7 Hz. In cases of proton-fluorine couplings, three bond coupling constants are ranged from 9 Hz to 10.3 Hz, and four bond coupling constants ate ranged from 6 Hz to 8.3 Hz.

  • Fe-(8.5, 18.5, 28.3, 36.9) wt% Cr alloys were corroded between 600 and $800^{\circ}C$ for up to 70 h in a 1 atm gas mixture that consisted of 0.0242 atm of $H_2S$, 0.031 atm of water vapor, and 0.9448 atm of nitrogen gas. Their corrosion resistance increased with an increment in the Cr content. The Fe-8.5%Cr alloy corroded fast, forming thick, fragile, nonadherent scales that consisted primarily of an outer FeS layer and an inner (Fe, Cr, O, S)-mixed layer. The outer FeS layer grew into the air by the outward diffusion of $Fe^{2+}$ ions, whereas the inner mixed layer grew by the inward diffusion of oxygen and sulfur ions. At the interface of the outer and inner scales, voids developed and cracking occurred. The Fe-(18.5, 28.3, 36.9)% Cr alloys displayed much better corrosion resistance than the Fe-8.5Cr alloy, because thin $Cr_2O_3$ or $Cr_2S_3$ scales formed.

  • Die Geschwindigkeitskonstanten der Solvolyse-Reaktionen von 9-Chlormethylanthracen wurden bei verschiedenen Temperaturen in unterschiedlichen binadren Losungsmittelgemischen (Wasser/Aceton, Wasser/Acetonitril, Wasser/Methanol, Wasser/Athanol) mit Hilfe der Leitfahigkeitsmeßungen bestimmt. Die Aktivierungsparameter $E_a$, ${\Delta}H^{\neq}$ und ${\Delta}S^{\neq}$ wurden berechnet. Die Meßergebnisse deuten darauf hin, daß die Solvolyse von 9-Chlormethylanthracen in protonischen Losungsmitteln schneller ablauft als in aprotonischen Losungsmitteln; in den Meßreihen mit protonsichen bzw. mit aprotonischen Losungsmitteln steigt die Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit mit der Zunahme der Dielektrizitatskonstanten des Losungsmittels an, und die Aktivierungsparameter nehmen mit steigendem Wassergehalt zu. Es wurde festgestellt, daß die Reaktion nach einem $S_N1$-Mechanismus ablauft. Die experimentellen Daten deuten darauf hin, daß Wasser einerseits als Nucleophil und andererseits als allgemeine Base am Reaktionsmechanismus beteiligt ist.

Synthesis and Properties of Poly[oxy(arylene)oxy(tetramethyldisilylene)]s via Melt Copolymerization Reaction

  • We carried out the melt copolymerization reactions of 1,2-bis(diethylamino)tetramethyldisilane with several aryldiols such as, 4,4'-biphenol, 4,4'-isopropylidenediphenol, 9H-fluoren-9,9-dimethanol, and 4,4'-(9-fluorenylidene) bis(2-phenoxyethanol) to afford poly[oxy(arylene)oxy(tetramethyldisilylene)]s containing fluorescent aromatic chromophore groups in the polymer main chain: poly[oxy(4,4'-biphenylene)oxy(tetramethyldisilylene)], poly[oxy{(4,4'-isopropylidene) diphenylene}oxy(tetramethyldisilylene)], poly[oxy(9H-fluorene-9,9-dimethylene) oxy(tetramethyldisilylene)], and poly[oxy{4,4'-(9-fluorenylidene)bis(2-phenoxyethylene)}oxy(tetramethyldisilnylene)]. These prepared materials are soluble in common organic solvents such as $CHCl_3$ and THF. The obtained polymers were characterized by several spectroscopic methods such as $^1H$, $^{13}C$, and $^{29}Si$ NMR. Further, FTIR spectra of all the polymers exhibited characteristic Si-O stretching frequencies at 1014-1087 $cm^{-1}$. These polymeric materials in THF showed strong maximum absorption peaks at 268-281 nm, strong maximum excitation peaks at 263-291 nm, and strong maximum fluorescence emission bands at 314-362 nm due to the presence of tetramethyldisilylene and several arylene chromophores in the polymer main chain. TGA thermograms indicated that most of the polymers were stable up to $200^{\circ}C$ with a weight loss of 3-16% in nitrogen.

  • To evaluate the effect of flip angle on flow rate measurements obtained with phase contrast MRI according to the flip angle degree in ascending aorta and velocity encoding (VENC) was (150 m/s). 1.5T MRI in patients 17 (female: 8, male: 9, mean age $57.9{\pm}15.4$) as a target by applying a non-breath holding techniques to flip angle VENC (150 cm/s) in each of the ascending aorta was measured by changing $20^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$ and $40^{\circ}$. Blood was obtained a peak velocity, average velocity, net forward volume, net forward volume/body surface area. Ascending aorta from average velocity (AV) measured the average value of the flip angle $20^{\circ}$ (9.87 cm/s), $30^{\circ}$ (9.6 cm/s) and $40^{\circ}$ (10.05 cm/s). Blood flow VENC in was blood flow change in flip angle change was high most blood flow measurement when the flip angle $30^{\circ}$ in VENC, crouching each blood flow is also proportional to the increases in the $20^{\circ}$ to $40^{\circ}$ and was increased, the deviation of the peak velocity and the average velocity is the smallest deviation from the flip angle $30^{\circ}$. Flip angle $20^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$ and $40^{\circ}$ in peak velocity, average velocity, net forward volume, net forward volume/body surface area was no statistically significant difference (p > .05). Blood flow velocity and blood flow is measured by applying to adjust the flip angle accurately calculate the blood flow is important information for diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, and can help in the examination on the blood flow measurement.

Spatio-Temporal Variation of Polymetallic Mineralization in the Wooseok Deposit (우석광상 다금속 광화작용의 시공간적 특성변화)

  • The Wooseok deposit in Jecheon belongs to the Hwanggangri Mineralized Distict of the northeastern Ogcheon Metamorphic Belt. Its geology consists mostly of limestone of the Choseon Supergroup and the Cretaceous Muamsa granite intruded at the eastern area of the deposit. The deposit shows vertical occurrence of skarn and hydrothermal vein ores with W-Mo-Fe and Cu-Pb-Zn mineralization and skarn is developed only at lower levels of the deposit. Skarn minerals are replaced or cut by ore minerals in paragenetic sequence of magnetite-hematite, molybdenite-scheelite-wollframite, and higher abundances of pyrrhotite-chalcopyrite-pyrite-sphalerite-galena. Garnet has chemical compositions of $Ad_{65.9-97.8}Gr_{0.3-32.0}Pyr_{0.9-3.0}$, corresponding to andradite series, and pyroxene compositions are $Hd_{4.5-49.7}Di_{42.3-93.9}Jo_{0.5-7.9}$, prevailing in diopside compositions, both of which suggest oxidized conditions of skarnization. On the FeS-MnS-CdS ternary diagram, FeS contents of sphalerite in vein ores decrease with increasing MnS contents from bottom to top levels, possibly relating to W mineralization in deep and Pb-Zn mineralization in shallow level. Sulfur isotope values of sulfide minerals range from 5.1 to 6.8‰, reflecting magmatic sulfur affected by host rocks. W-Mo skarn and Pb-Zn vein mineralization in the Wooseok deposit were established by spatio-temporal variation of decreasing temperature and oxygen fugacity with increasing sulfur fugacity from bottom to top levels.

  • Stanozolol (STZ, 17$\alpha$-methyl-17$\beta$-hydroxy-5$\alpha$-androstano-(3,2-c) pyrazole), an anabolic steroid, is an abused drug by body-builders or atheletes, as well as medicine for treatment of aplastic anemia and vascular thrombosis. In human volunteers, the major urinary metabolite of STZ was reported to be 3'-hydroxystanozolol that was identified by gas chromatography-mass selective detector (GC/MSD). The objective of this experiment is to investigate the in vitro metabolism of STZ in liver S-9 faction of polychlorinated biphenyl-induced rats. Reaction mixture including STZ as substrate and the S-9 faction was extracted with diethyl ether and quantified by the selected ion monitoring mode of GC/MSD. The selected concentration of substrate STZ is 100 nmole and the selected time for incubation in the reaction mixture was determined to 60 min. The amount of 3'-hydroxystanozolol produced was increased by about 6-fold in the reaction medium including the liver S-9 fraction of polychlorinated biphenyl-induced rats, compared to that of untreated rats. Inhibitors of cytochrome P450, SKF-525A and 7,8-benzoflavone, decreased the production of 3'-hydroxystanozolol by about 89~100% and 65~75%, respectively; In conclusion, hydroxylation of STZ into 3'-hydroxystanozolol is confirmed by GC/MSD and is catalyzed by cytochrome P450.

THE INHIBITORY EFFECT OF FRUCTAN-PRODUCING S. SALIVARIUS ON THE FORMATION OF ARTIFICIAL PLAQUE (Fructan 생성 S. salivarius의 인공치태 억제효과)

  • S. mutans is the most important causative bacteria of dental caries among the oral bacteria. S. salivarius is a normal inhabitant in the human oral cavity. Nine strains of S. salivarius in this study were isolated from the oral cavities of children and identified, and their effect on S. mutans and S. oralis was studied. 1. The mean weight of produced artificial plaque on the wires in the beaker was 204.9 mg in the culture of S. mutans only, whereas being reduced to 1.9 mg through 20.6mg in the combined culture of S. mutans and each S. salivarius isolate (p<0.05). The viable cell didn't show the difference between them after culturing. 2. When S. mutans was cultured in the media containing culture supernatant of each S. salivarius isolate in M17 broth, the mean weight of produced artificial plaque was 117.1 mg on the wires, whereas being 47.7 mg in the media containing culture supernatant of each S. salivarius isolate in M17 broth containing 5% sucrose. 3. The polymer produced by S. salivarius isolates was on the thin layer chromatography. 4. Inulin and levan didn't inhibit the formation of artificial plaque by S. mutans in the beaker test. These results suggested that fructan-producing S. salivarius isolates inhibited the formation of artificial plaque by S. mutans.
