The design of an efficient scheduler is a key design factor in IEEE 802.16m systems, in order to support services with various QoS smoothly. Although conventional studies of schedules have been suggested, those had problems that are not able to satisfy the delay condition and make the through-put declined, because they only focused on a specific action scenario rather than reflecting practical action scenarios which have real-time and non-real-time traffics variously. In this paper, an efficient uplink scheduling algorithm is proposed for IEEE 802.16m system by introducing the concepts of Virtual Time(VT) and Virtual Finish Time(VFT) based priority determination, and separate buffers for each QoS class in the mobile terminal. Simulation results showed that the proposed scheme had satisfied the delay requirement of real-time services even with improved throughput performance compared to conventional methods.

In this paper, BER performance and error convergence speed of layered LDPC(Low Density Parity Check) decoder which supports IEEE 802.16e WiMAX standard is analyzed, and optimal design conditions for hardware implementation are derived. A LDPC decoder is modeled and simulated at AWGN channel with QPSK modulation by Matlab. The parity check matrix(PCM) for IEEE 802.16e standard which has block lengths of 576, 1440, 2304 and code rates of 1/2, 2/3A, 2/3B, 3/4A, 3/4B, 5/6 are used. Fixed-point simulation results show that fixed-point bit-width should be more than 8 bits for acceptable decoding performance.

Multi antenna techniques using space-time codes can achieve diversity gains in a multi-path environment without additional bandwidth requirement. Most of the 4G candidate standards including the IEEE 802.16e adopt multi-input multi-output (MIMO) schemes to achieve either high throughput performance or diversity gains. In these 4G candidate standards, turbo codes using an iterative decoder with soft input soft output are used to overcome serious channel fading. For this reason, the estimated signal values from MIMO detectors should be soft decision detection values. In this paper, we propose efficient methods to estimate soft decision detection values for various space time coding schemes, and provide the simulation results of turbo coded space time coding scheme over an IEEE 802.16e link.

In this paper, we propose an uplink dynamic resource allocation algorithm to increase sector throughput and fairness among users in 802.16e OFDMA TDD system. In uplink, we address the difference between uplink and downlink channel state information in 802.16e OFDMA TDD system. The simulation results show that not only an increment of 10% of sector throughput but higher level of fairness is achieved by round-robin using the FLR and the rate / margin adaptive inner closed-loop power control algorithm. The FLR algorithm determines the number of sub-channels to be allocated to the user according to the user's position. Also, we get 31.8% more sector throughput compared with the round-robin using FLR by FASA algorithm using uplink channel state information. User selection, sub-channel allocation, power allocation algorithms and simulation methodology are mentioned in Part I.
We observe simultaneous transmission of relay stations (RSs) allowed in current IEEE 802.16j draft standard for multi-hop relay networks may involve severe interference among the RSs, hence leading to throughput degradation. Allowing only 1/3 of the RSs to simultaneously transmit instead of 1/2 RSs as in the current draft standard reduces the interference but results in reduced throughput. To remedy this problem, we devise schemes to incorporate network coding at link-layer level (decode-and-forward) into the simultaneous transmission of RSs. Data movement is rearranged to maximize coding gain. Formula is derived to dictate exact movement of packets traveling between base station (BS) and mobile stations (MSs) via intermediate RSs. The frame structure in the current IEEE 802.16j draft standard does not allow broadcast needed for network coding. We devise a new frame structure which supports the broadcast. A new R-MAP (pointers to the burst data) is introduced to implement the broadcast. Since our new frame structure is used only for BS to RS or RS to RS communication, our schemes retain backward compatibility with legacy MSs based on IEEE 802.16e standard. Simulation based on simple configuration of RSs shows considerable improvement in terms of system throughput and round trip delay. For a 4-hop relay network with 1 BS and 4 RSs with symmetric traffic in uplink (UL) and downlink (DL), throughput is improved by 49% in DL and by 84% in UL traffic compared with IEEE 802.16j draft standard under the assumption that omni-directional antennae are used in BS and RSs.

Recently, there are growing interests in femto-cell for providing indoor users with various broadband multimedia services more efficiently. The technical issues regarding femto-cell such as interference management, self-organization, and resource allocation are now being intensively studied and investigated by researchers worldwide. In this paper, two novel schemes of neighboring cell list(NCL) management are proposed for the IEEE 802.16e system where a macro-cell and huge number of femto-cells coexist. The proposed schemes, named MS location-based neighboring cell list management and BS type-based neighboring cell list management, enable a mobile station(MS) to perform fast scanning and efficient handover by means of preselecting the candidate target femto-cells with high possibility for handover. The simulation result shows that the proposed schemes improve the MS's handover-related performance in terms of scanning power and scanning time compared with the conventional managements scheme of IEEE 802.16e system.

In wireless mobile communication systems, priority of voice service through high speed data and multimedia transmission requires increased service diversification. Research is being carried out in this environment, on the call admission control techniques to guarantee the diversified service's QoS. SRN (Stochastic Reward Net) is an extended version of Petri nets, well know modeling and analysis tool. In this paper, we develop SRN call admission control model considering the 4 classes of services in the 4th generation IEE 802.16e mobile communication Technology.

Wireless Mesh Networks are consist of mobility mesh clients and mesh routers. WMNs can communicate with heterogeneous networks such as IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.15, IEEE 802.16 and sensor networks. WMNs which is based on ad hoc network are on research and developing to enhance WLANs, WPANs, or WMANs. WMNs can offer environment to serve human, service to person area, campus, and metro. But WMNs has many problems to solve about enhancing performance and generalization. Among them, Existing protocol layers has many problems enhancing to optimize WMNs. This document issues problems about WMNs in protocol layer and suggest the solutions. Also, suggests the requirements and the methods of QoS supporting issue.
In this paper, We analysis of effective coverage extension for Tri-sector cellular systems using Multi-hop Relay based on IEEE802.16j system. In the proposed international standard of IEEE 802.16j MMR (Mobile Multi-hop Relay) use of the omni-directional antenna, 3-sector and 6-sector antenna is considered to Base Station and Relay Station. Omni-directional antenna service can offer as all directions but a throughput decreases due to the signal interference of near Relay Stations. In the directional antenna, cause of an interference with the base station which it arranges an antenna so that a beam can have the direct and does with neighbor Base Station and Relay Station can be reduced interference, therefore the effective throughput is higher than the omni-directional antenna system. But, In case of Base Station and Relay Station use the directional antenna, the efficiency which the directional antenna has the Co-channel interference due to in the different cell by the channel reuse is decreased. In this study, we propose the structure of arranging the Base Station and Relay Station having the directional antenna in the NBTC, WBTC antenna in a multi-tier. It compared and analyzed with the mode that the multi-hop Relay Station has the omni-directional antenna, Relay Station are used the NBTC antenna and the WBTC antenna system also, We analyze a relation between the performance degradation and the cell coverage extension which it follows because the number of hop in the multi-hop Relay Station.
IEEE 802.16/WiBro, one of the representative Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) systems, defines QoS negotiation between BS and SS and five service classes to guarantee QoS for flows. The five service classes are UGS, ertPS, rtPS, nrtPS, and BE, but the standard does not define how to provide services to flows according to the service classes. Existing research works have been studied about the scheduler architecture to effectively utilize the IEEE 802.16/WiBro systems. These works use the original packet scheduling algorithm for service classes. However, it is necessary to consider bandwidth allocation mechanisms in scheduling algorithms since bandwidth allocation mechanisms are different according to service classes. Especially, bandwidth allocation mechanisms should be considered for the scheduling of rtPS class since rtPS class uses the polling mechanism that takes time to allocate bandwidth and has the minimum latency constraint. Therefore, we propose two stage dropping scheme for rtPS class that is sensitive to latency, and thus it reduces the wasted resources and provides efficient service to rtPS class.
