  • The goal of this study is to estimate the force acting on the knee joint in the human body by using the Hilltype muscle model based on a musculoskeletal model of the human lower extremity in the sagittal plane. For estimating the force applied, the human leg is modeled using multi-body modeling. This leg model comprises biarticular muscles acting on two joints of the upper and lower limbs, and the muscles include some of the major muscles such as the hamstring. In order to analyze the uncertainty of the applied forces acting on the knee joint, statistical distributions of human body, leg part, parameters are required and to obtain the parameter's statistical characteristic of the part sample survey method is employed. Finally, by using the sensitivity information of the parameters, the force acting on the knee joint can be estimated.

  • For free motions, vibration suppression of flexible manipulators has been one of the hottest research topics. However, for constrained motions, a little effort has been devoted for vibration suppression control. Using the dependency of elastic deflections of links on contact force under static conditions, vibrations for constrained planar two-link flexible manipulators have been suppressed successfully by controlling the contact force. However, for constrained spatial multi-link flexible manipulators, the vibrations cannot be suppressed by only controlling the contact force. So, the aim of this paper is to clarify the vibration mechanism of a constrained, multi-DOF, flexible manipulator and to devise the suppression method. We apply a concise hybrid position/force control scheme to control a flexible manipulator modeled by lumped-parameter modeling method. Finally, a comparison between simulation and experimental results is presented to show the performance of our method.

  • This study is to understand the characteristics of axial force behavior that operates to the part of continuous welded rail and to investigate the basic data for secure the structure's stability and retrofit of the track. To develop the FEM model that type of plate girder which is used in the domestic national railway among servicing railway type. It is to analyze the characteristics of axial force behavior according to equip of the expansion joint and support placing by using the axial force simulation in making the continuous welded rail. As the result of research on the parametric valuables through the analysis, it is investigated that 'FMFM type' is more efficient than the other support type. Also, it conclude that structures are having the expansion joint is the most safe condition.

  • The authors performed an experimental study on the retention force in cavities with various depth and width. We used the simple model cavities which were cylindrically formed to eliminate the unexpected influence during experiment, and obtained following results. 1. The retention force in the cavities with parallel wall was vigorous even in the small cavity and increased considerably followed by extending the cavity size. 2. The ratention force resulted more vigorously by that the depth became deeper than that the distance between the lateral walls became longer. 3. Compared with the retention force in the cavities which had the same frictional lateral surface, it was more vigorous in the deeper cavity than in the cavity which was longer distance between the lateral surfaces.

  • Slotless Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor (PMLSM) has good control ability but thrust density is low. So, this paper proposes inserted core type of slotless PMLSM to improve its thrust density. Inserting the core between windings of each phase, detent force is generated by the difference of magnetic resistance in an air gap. To minimize detent force, this paper applies the neural network to inserted core type of slotless PMLSM. The, Magnetic pole ratio, the width of the inserted core and the width of the coil are selected as a design parameter to minimize detent force. In comparison with inserted core type one, thrust ripple greatly decreases by minimizing detent force and also thrust increases in this optimal model.

  • This paper provides an analysis of the transient behaviour of a right-angled bent cantilever beam subjected to a suddenly applied force at its tip perpendicular to its plane. Based on a rigid, perfectly plastic material model, a double-hinge mechanism is required to complete the possible deformation under a rectangular force pulse (constant force applied for a finite duration) with a four-phase response mode. The kinematics of the various response phases are described and the partitioning of the input energy at the plastic hinges during the motion is evaluated.

  • 1FSD is a 28-residue designed protein with a ${\beta}{\beta}{\alpha}$ motif. Since this protein displays most essential features of protein structures in such a small size, this model protein can be an outstanding system for evaluating the balance in the propensity of the secondary structures and the quality of all-atom protein force fields. Particularly, this protein would be difficult to fold to its correct native structure without establishing proper balances between the secondary structure elements in all-atom energy functions. In this work, a series of the recently optimized five amber protein force fields [$ff03^*$, $f99sb^*$-ildn, ff99sb-${\phi}^{\prime}$-ildn, ff99sb-nmr1-ildn, ff99sb-${\Phi}{\Psi}$(G24, CS)-ildn] were investigated for the simulations of 1FSD using a conventional molecular dynamics (MD) and a biased-exchange meta-dynamics (BEMD) methods. Among those tested force fields, we found that ff99sb-nmr1-ildn and ff99sb-${\Phi}{\Psi}$(G24, CS)-ildn are promising in that both force fields can locate the native state of 1FSD with a high accuracy (backbone rmsd ${\leq}1.7{\AA}$) in the global free energy minimum basin with a reasonable energetics conforming to a previous circular dichroism (CD) experiment. Furthermore, both force fields led to a common set of two distinct folding pathways with a heterogeneous nature of the transition state to the folding. We anticipate that these force fields are reasonably well balanced, thereby transferable to many other protein folds.

  • Objectives : We examined mutual inhibitory effects of combined acupoints in arthritic pain induce by carrageenan(CA). Electroacupuncture(EA) is considered a potentially useful treatment for arthritis. Although the analgesic effect of acupuncture is well documented, little is understood about its biological basis. There are many previous studies of positive effect of combined acupoint, this study was conducted to see the mutual inhibitory effects produced by combined acupoint(ST36 and PC7) on arthritic rats. Methods : For the induction of inflammatory pain rat model, CA was injected into the knee joint cavity. There are four groups; EA was applied to bilateral PC7 acupoints(PC7 group), ST36 acupoints(ST36 group), and both PC7 and ST36 acupoints(ST36+PC7 group) except for the control group. The pain level were assessed to determine the change in weight bearing force. We also examined the COX-2 expression in dorsal horn using immunohistochemistry and western blot analysis. Results : The ST36+PC7 group data showed the significant reduction of weight bearing force and the induction of COX-2 protein expression compared with the ST36 group. Conclusions : Simultaneous EA applied to the ST36 and PC7 acupoints reduced the analgesic effect of the ST36 group on knee inflammatory pain.

  • A computer simulation method for investigating the form generation mechanism in the centerless through-feed grinding process is described. The length of the contact line and the magnitude of the grinding force between the grinding wheel and workpieces, vary with the change in the axial location of the current workpiece during grinding. Thus, a new coordinate system and a grinding force curve of previous and/or following workpieces are introduced to treat the axial motion. Experiments and computer simulations were carried out using four types of cylindrical workpiece shapes. To validate this model, simulation results are compared with the experimental results.

  • An expert drawbead model is developed for the finite element analysis of stamping processes. The expert model calculates drawbead restraining forces and bead-exit thinnings with the forming condi-tions and drawbead size. The drawbead restraining forces and bead-exit thinnings of a circular draw-bead and stepped drawbead are computed by mathematical models and corrected by the multiple lin-ear regression method based on experimental measurements. The squared drawbead preventing the sheet from drawing-in inside die cavity is assumed to have a very huge drawbead restraining force and no pre-strain just after drawbead. The combined beads are considered as a combination of basic draw-beads such as circular a drawbead stepped drawbead and squared drawbead so that the drawbead restraining forces and bead-exit thinnigs are basically sum of those of basic drawbeads.
