Development of a 2-DOF Robot System for Harvesting a Lettuce (2 자유도 상추 수확 로봇 시스템 개발)

  • In Korea, researches for year-round leaf vegetables production system are in progress and the most of them are focused on environment control. Automation technologies for harvesting , transporting and grading need to be developed. This study was conducted to develop harvesting process automation system profitable to a competitive price. 1. Manipulator and end-effector are to be designed and fabricated , and fuzzy logic controller for controlling these are to be composed. 2. The entire system constructed is to be evaluated through a performance test. A robot system for harvesting a lettuce was developed. It was composed of a manipulator with 20DOF (degrees of freedom) an end-effector, a lettuce feeding conveyor , an air blower , a machine vision device, 6 photoelectric sensors and a fuzzy logic controller. A fuzzy logic control was applied to determined appropriate grip force on lettuce. Leaf area index and height index were used as input parameters, and voltage was used as output parameter for the fuzzy logic controller . Success rate of the lettuce harvesting system was 93.06% , and average harvesting time was about 5 seconds per lettuce.

  • This paper presents a complex stochastic wheelbase preview control method of a motorcycle suspension based on hierarchical modeling method. As usual, a vehicle suspension system is controlled as a whole body. In this method, a motorcycle suspension with five Degrees of Freedom(DOF) is dealt with two local independent 2-DOF suspensions according to the hierarchical modeling method. The central dynamic equations that harmonize local relations are deduced. The vertical and pitch accelerations of the suspension center are treated as center control objects, and two local semi-active control forces can be obtained. In example, a real time Linear Quadratic Gaussian(LQG) algorithm is adopted for the front suspension and the combination of the wheelbase preview and LQG control method is designed for the rear suspension. The results of simulation show that the control strategy has less calculating time and is convenient to adopt different control strategies for front and rear suspensions. The method proposed in this paper provides a new way for the vibration control of multi-wheel vehicles.

  • A method to focus the object in camera system by applying the Hill climb algorithm from optical lens moving device (VCM; Voice coil motor) is proposed. The focusing algorithm from VCM is focus on the object but in these criteria is a well-known drawback; the focus is good only at same distance objects but the focus is bad (blur image) at different distance objects because of the DOF (Depth of focus) or DOF (Depth of field) at the optical characteristic. Here, the new camera system that describes the Reflector of free curvature systems (or Diffractive Fresnel lens) and the partition of focusing window area is proposed. The method to improve the focus in all areas (different distance objects) is proposed by new optical system (discrete auto in-focus) using the Reflector of free curvature systems (or Diffractive Fresnel lens) and by applying the partition of all areas. The proposal is able to obtain good focus in all areas.

  • This paper presents a simplified dynamics of railway vehicle for a tilting train simulator. The tilting train simulator has 6 electric-driven actuators and a visualization system with 1600mm-diameter dome screen. The each system shares the data by ethernet. In order to analyze the dynamics of railway vehicle and transfer the results of the analysis to the other system of the tilting train simulator in realtime base, We assumed the tilting train as a simplified rigid body model with primary and secondary suspensions. The simplified vehicle model has a 17-DOF. Through the running analysis on the tight curve with various radius, we verified the simplified vehicle model.

  • In this paper we present a 3-DOF manipulator of which task is to unload the product from a micro factory. The micro factory developed by KITECH presses sheet metal to produce a micro valve that is used for micro pump. Our research is focused on the development of a small-sized unloading manipulator which works in the narrow workspace between the dies. We have implemented pick-and-place task with vacuum pressure and 3-DOF motion with stepping motors. We present the design procedures and analysis required in each module.

  • A three-dimensional dynamic model for simulating various motions of full vehicle is presented. The model has 16 independent degrees of freedom (DOF) consisting of three kinds of components; a vehicle body of 6 DOF, 4 independent suspensions equipped at every corner of the body, and 4 tire models linked with each suspension. The dynamic equations are represented in six coordinate frames such as world fixed coordinate, vehicle fixed coordinate, and four wheel fixed coordinate frames. Then these lead to the approximated prediction model of vehicle posture. Both lateral and longitudinal dynamics can be computed simultaneously under the conditions of which various inputs including steering command, driving torque, gravity, rolling resistance of tire, aerodynamic resistance, etc. are considered. It is shown through simulations that the proposed 3D model can be useful for precise design and performance analysis of any full vehicle control systems.

  • This paper describes a 3-DOF attitude control of a small model helicopter in hover through explicit decoupling and adaptive control scheme. A model helicopter mounted on gimbal-stand is considered as a system that has 3 independent SISO systems representing motions about roll, pitch and yaw axis and these subsystems are identified from the test flight data. In this consideration, the contribution of others to yaw channel is neglected since it is relatively small. Two PID controllers based on Ziegler-Nichols method are designed for roll pitch channels independently. Also, adaptive fuzzy tuner is designed and applied to those PID controllers to cope with coupling effects between each channel and system uncertainties due to variation of engine RPM.   • This paper proposes the robot inverse calibration method using a neural networks. A high-order networks called Pi-Sigma networks has been used. The Pi-Sigma networks uses linear summing units in the hidden layer and product unit in output layer. The inverse calibration model which compensates the diff- erence of joint variables only between measuring value and analytic value about the desired pose(position, orientation) of a robot is proposed. The compensated values are determined by using the weights obtained from the learning process of the neural networks previously. To prove the reasonableness, the SCARA type direct drive robot(4-DOF) and anthropomorphic robot(6-DOF) are simulated. It shows that the proposed calibration method can reduce the errors of the joint variables from .+-. 5 .deg. to .+-. 0.1 .deg. .
