  • The environmental problem and the drain of petroleum fuel resources has been became the center of public interest. So the electric drive attracts public attention. The vehicles for indoor works should not pollute air. Therefore it is also useful that applying electric drive to such an appliance. An 1.2[kw] SRM for a pallet truck drive is developed and tested. The drive system has to operate with low voltage and high current. The small size, robustness, high efficiency make it possible to replace with DC motor. Test results show that pallet truck with SRM has better characteristics than that of the DC motor performance.

  • This paper describes a current-shaping method for the production of constant torque of SRM under the nonlinear magnetic saturation condition. A current detection technique in the inductance increasing region and an approximation technique for modeling of nonlinear inductance profile are adopted. In the proposed system, a single switching angle control and voltage control is used to shape the current waveform for the generation of flat torque at any given load condition. Finally the validity of the proposed method was verified using a constructed 3HP 6/4 SRM.

  • This paper presents the switching angle and voltage to maximize torque/efficiency and minimize torque ripple in the 4-phase 6-poles Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM). SRM drive has high saturation and nonlinear characteristics of inductance. So we cannot hard to find optimal condition by using analytic method. Therefore it is hard to find the operating the switching angle and voltage through the approximated analysis and computer simulation by using SIMULINK according to the speed and torque required by load. From the results, we can say that the optimum average voltage is determined by the load only and the speed is determined by the optimum turn-on/off angle only. And the maximum efficiency and minimum torque ripple depend on switching angle, not on voltage. And then one-chip microcontroller controls the switching angle and voltage of an asymmetrical inverter in the SRM driver. This drive method, which is expect that the driving methods, which are maximizing torque/efficiency and minimizing torque ripple, will be suitable for the electric vehicle, the industrial application and household appliances.

  • SRM (switched reluctance motor) provides an excellent adjustable speed and torque characteristics. SRM has the possibility of maintaining full power over a wide speed range. So, many attempts are being done from home appliances to industrial applications. Especially, a traction drive of an SRM is one of a good application for it's DC-series characteristic. However, because of the switching mechanism and reluctance torque, it has some disadvantage of noise and vibration. It is difficult to adopt to an appliance demanding silency. Performance and noise tests with 6/4 and 12/8 SRM were excuted to compare the characteristics.

  • This paper presents improved performance on the speed control of Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) by using fuzzy logic speed controller. The nonlinear model of SRM is used and the motor used in experiment is a 6/4 SRM. In order to prove the superiority of the fuzzy logic controller, it is applied to make use of Matlab simulation program. And to implement the control method on the SRM drive. DSP(TMS320F240) based SRM speed controller is designed and fabricated. The simulation and experiment results show that FLC is effective in settling time maximum overshoot and torque ripple.

Characteristics Analysis of Short Flux Path Switched Reluctance Motor

  • A novel kind of switched reluctance motor (SRM) with short flux path is proposed in this paper. Phase excitation in the SRM gives short flux paths, hence reducing the magnetomotive force required to drive the machine, resulting in significant reduction of copper wire and core losses compared to the typical SRM with diametric circulation of magnetic flux. To verify the performance, the characteristics analysis of a double-stator SRM, a 6/5 SRM with C-core structure, and a 4/5 two-phase SRM, which all have short flux paths, and a comparison with conventional SR motors are executed. The comparison demonstrates that the proposed motor offers some advantages in terms of torque and efficiency.

A New Current Sharing Strategy of SRM Using Parallel Winding Method (병렬권선 방식에 의한 SRM의 부하전류분담)

  • The switched reluctance motor(SRM) has a considerable potential for industrial applications because of its high reliability as a result of the absence of rotor windings. In some applications with SRM, a parallel switching strategy is often used for cost saving, increasing of current capacity and system reliability. This paper proposes a new parallel switching strategy of SRM using parallel winding. While conventional parallel switching devices are connected in a phase winding, power devices are connected in the parallel windings wound in each pole of stator in the proposed method. Paralleling strategy for current sharing in the proposed method can be easily determined without considerations of any nonlinear characteristics of power devices such as conduction resistance, threshold voltage and gain factor. The proposed paralleling strategy is verified by the mathematical analysis and experimental results.

  • As the exciting point of each phase is determined by the position of rotor, the rotor's accurate position-information is needed for the Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM). When using an absolute-encoder or a resolver, to detect the location of rotor the initial starting is possible, as early sensing of rotor's location is possible. However, this is not appropriate, considering the economical efficiency, and in case of using the incremental-encoder, there's a problem at initial starting as it is not easy to track down the location of rotor at the very beginning. When using Hall-ICs, there's a fault, as it needs a special ring magnet. Considering the initial starting and economical efficiency, the optical sensor technique using a slotted-disk and an opto-interrupter is appropriate, however, this method needs three opto-interrupters and a slotted-disk when using the 6/4 pole SRM. Nevertheless, in this paper, it used only two optical sensors to operate 6/4 pole SRM and made the start up and also forward and reverse operation possible. By excluding the slotted-disc md shortening a optical sensor, it improved the convenience and economical efficiency of the production. Also, as the space for slotted-disc is no more needed, it was able to reduce the size of motor.
