Internet of Things (IoT) is a growing technology along with artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Recently, increasing cases of developing knowledge services using information collected from sensor data have been reported. Communication is required to connect the IoT and AI, and 5G mobile networks have been widely spread recently. IoT, AI services, and 5G mobile networks can be configured and used as sensor-mobile edge-server. The sensor does not send data directly to the server. Instead, the sensor sends data to the mobile edge for quick processing. Subsequently, mobile edge enables the immediate processing of data based on AI technology or by sending data to the server for processing. 5G mobile network technology is used for this data transmission. Therefore, this study examines the challenges, opportunities, and solutions used in each type of technology. To this end, this study addresses clustering, Hyperledger Fabric, data, security, machine vision, convolutional neural network, IoT technology, and resource management of 5G mobile networks.

The error-rate floor of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes is attributed to the trapping sets of their Tanner graphs. Among them, fully absorbing sets dominantly affect the error-rate performance, especially for short blocklengths. Efficient methods to identify the dominant trapping sets of LDPC codes were thoroughly researched as exhaustively searching them is NP-hard. However, the existing methods are ineffective for Raptor-like LDPC codes, which have many types of trapping sets. An effective method to identify dominant fully absorbing sets of Raptor-like LDPC codes is proposed. The search space of the proposed algorithm is optimized into the Tanner subgraphs of the codes to afford time-efficiency and search-effectiveness. For 5G New Radio (NR) base graph (BG) 2 LDPC codes for short blocklengths, the proposed algorithm finds more dominant fully absorbing sets within one seventh of the computation time of the existing search algorithm, and its search-effectiveness is verified using importance sampling. The proposed method is also applied to 5G NR BG1 LDPC code and Advanced Television Systems Committee 3.0 type A LDPC code for large blocklengths.
We propose a millimeter wave (MMW)-based mobile hotspot network (MHN) system for application in high-speed railways that is capable of supporting a peak backhaul link throughput of 1 Gbps per train at 400 km/h. The MHN system can be implemented in subways and high-speed trains to support passengers with smart devices and provide access to the Internet. The proposed system can overcome the inherent high path loss in MMW through system designs and high antenna gains. We present a simulation of the system performance that shows that a fixed beamforming strategy can provide high signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio similar to those of an adaptive beamforming strategy, with the exception of 15% of the train path in which the network can use link adaptation with low-order modulation formats or trigger a handover to maintain the connection. We also demonstrate the feasibility of the MHN system using a test bed deployed in Seoul subway line 8. The backhaul link throughput varies instantaneously between 200 Mbps and 500 Mbps depending on the SNR variations while the train is running. During the field trial, the smartphones used could make connections through offloading.
Currently mobile services are on the verge of full commercialization ahead of 5G mobile communication (5G). The first goal could be to preempt the 5G market through realistic media services utilizing VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality) technologies that users can most easily experience. Basically this movement is based on the advanced development of smart devices and high quality graphics processing computing power of mobile application processors. Accordingly, the importance of mobile GPUs is emerging and the most concern issue becomes a model for predicting the power and performance for smooth operation of high quality mobile contents. In many cases, the performance of mobile GPUs has been introduced in terms of power consumption of mobile GPUs using dynamic voltage and frequency scaling and throttling functions for power consumption and heat management. This paper introduces several studies of mobile GPU performance prediction model with user-friendly methods not like conventional power centric performance prediction models.
Several studies on machine learning (ML) based self-organizing networks (SONs) have been conducted, specifically for LTE, since studies to apply ML to optimize mobile communication systems started with 2G. However, they are still in the infancy stage. Owing to the complicated KPIs and stringent user requirements of 5G, it is necessary to design the 5G SON engine with intelligence to enable users to seamlessly and unlimitedly achieve connectivity regardless of the state of the mobile communication network. Therefore, in this study, we analyze and summarize the current state of machine learning studies applied to SONs as solutions to the complicated optimization problems that are caused by the unpredictable context of mobile communication scenarios.
5G AgiLe and fLexible integration of SaTellite And cellulaR (5G-ALLSTAR) is a Korea-Europe (KR-EU) collaborative project for developing multi-connectivity (MC) technologies that integrate cellular and satellite networks to provide seamless, reliable, and ubiquitous broadband communication services and improve service continuity for 5G and beyond. The main scope of this project entails the prototype development of a millimeter-wave 5G New Radio (NR)-based cellular system, an investigation of the feasibility of an NR-based satellite system and its integration with cellular systems, and a study of spectrum sharing and interference management techniques for MC. This article reviews recent research activities and presents preliminary results and a plan for the proof of concept (PoC) of three representative use cases (UCs) and one joint KR-EU UC. The feasibility of each UC and superiority of the developed technologies will be validated with key performance indicators using corresponding PoC platforms. The final achievements of the project are expected to eventually contribute to the technical evolution of 5G, which will pave the road for next-generation communications.
