  • Fifty compounds such as ester, sulfonyl ester, carbamate, ether and phosphoyl ester derivatives of 4-isopropyl-3-methylphenol(I) and 5-isopropyl-3-methylphenol(II) were synthesized. These derivatives were identified by IR, GC/MS and $^1H$-NMR spectra. Their in vitro antifungal activities were tested against 10 plant pathogenic fungi. Among them, several compounds showed potent in vitro antifungal activity. The selected compounds showing potent in vitro antifungal activity were tested for their in vivo antifungal activities against 5 plant diseases such as rice blast, rice sheath blast, cucumber anthracnose, cucumber gray mold and tomato late blight. As a result, 4-isopropyl-3-methylphenyl(2-amino-thiazole-4-yl)methoxyiminoacetate(I-7a) showed a potent in vivo antifungal activity against rice blast. Both methyl (4-isopropyl-3-methylphenoxy)acetate(I-4d) and methyl (5-isopropyl-3-methylphenoxy)acetate(II-4d) effectively inhibited the development of cucumber gray mold.

  • Sixty compounds such as alkylphenyl fluorobenzoate esters from thymol(I), 5-isopropyl-3-methylphenol (II), 4-isopropyl-3-methylphenol (III), 2-sec-butylphenol (IV) and 4-sec-butylphenol (V) were synthesized. These derivatives were identified by IR, $^1H$-NMR spectrometer and GC/MS. Their in vivo antifungal activities were tested against phytopathogens such as Phytophthora infestans, Botrytis cinerea, Colletotrichum orbiculare and Rhizoctonia solani. As the result, 2-sec-butylphenyl 2,5-difluorobenzoate (IV-6) and 4-sec-butylphenyl 2,5-difluorobenzoate (V-6) showed 90% above antifungal activity against Botrytis cinerea. 2-Isopropyl-5-methylphenyl 2,3,6-trifluorobenzoate (I-11), 2-isopropyl-5-methylphenyl 2,4,5-trifluorobenzoate (I-12), 5-isopropyl-3-methylphenyl 2,3,6-trifluorobenzoate (II-11), 4-isopropyl-3-methylphenyl 2,3,6-trifluorobenzoate (III-11) and 4-isopropyl-3-methylphenyl 2,4,5-trifluorobenzoate (III -12) showed 90% above potent antifungal activity against Colletotrichum orbiculare.

  • Twenty five compounds isopropylmethylphenyl benzenesulfonate derivatives of thymol (1), 4-isopropyl-3-methylphenol (2), 5-isopropyl-3-methylphenol (3), 4-isopropylphenol (4), and 2-isopropylphenol (5) derivatives were synthesized. These compounds were analyzed for their structural confirmation with IR, GC/MS, and $^1H$-NMR. Synthetic compounds were tested against phytopathogenic fungi activities such as Pyrcularia grisea, Rhizoctonia solani, Phytophthora infestans, Colletotrichum orbiculare, and Sphaerotheca fusca. 2-Isopropyl-5-methylphenyl o-toluenesulfonate (1a), 2-isopropylphenyl 2,4,5-trichloro-benzenesulfonate (5b) and 2-isopropylphenyl 2-methyl-5-nitrobenzenesulfonate (5e) showed a potent in vivo antifungal activity against Pyrcularia grisea, Phytophthora infestans and Sphaerotheca fusca.

  • This study was undertaken to investigate the antioxidative substance and activity of ethyl acetate extracted from Rumex crispus. Sample extracted follow in proper course of a solvent. Material refinement was carried out using silicagel column and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography. Material sorting was carried by Gas Chromatography(GC/MS). 1,1-Diphenyl-2-Picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) free radical scavenging and enzyme activity were measured for antioxidative activity. as result of testing by DPPH free radical scavenging activity, Antioxidative activity was shown as the highest in the root, then leaf and stem in order. Ethyl acetate extraction of root part were 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) Rumex activty(6.1 ug/mL). Rumex nipponicus(9.8 ug/ml) and Rumex acetoceae(31.5 ug/mL) in leaf part. The highest antioxidative activity of sample refined through silicagel column chromatography of Rumex crispus was appealed Fraction 5(IC50;3.57 ug/mL) in root and Fraction 6(IC50;85.9 ug/mL) in leaf. Fraction 5 in roof & Fraction 6 in leaf were refined using Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography. The highest antioxidative activity were appeared Fraction 4 (IC50;3.57 ug/mL) and Fraction 4 (IC50;18.41 ug/mL)in leaf. As for main phenol compounds 2,6-Dichloro-4-nitropnenol and 2-Isopropyl-5-methyl Phenol were identified in root and leaf, While 4-Vinyl-2- methoxy-phenol and 2,3-Dihydro- benzofuran were identifica ted only in leaf. Enzyme activity was shown low both in peroxidase(PDD) Non-activate(IU/mg protein)and in Superoxide dismutase(SOD) non-activate(IU/mg protein). 2,6-Dichloro-4-nitrophenol, 2-Isopropyl-5-methyl phenol, 4-Vinyl-2-methoxy-phenol were obtained in this experiment and these compounds are phenolic compounds which have OH group in the structure. With the result of this study these phenolic compounds which are extracted from Rumex crispus have high antioxidative effect. This antioxidative effect of Rumex crispus can be applied for chromo-preventive and antioxidative supplements which can be used for anti-allegy, aging, anti-tumor, aging and other oxidative disease for health promotion.
