In this investigation, bar-shaped specimens which consisted of three layers are prepared to study the effects of residual compressive stress on the mechanical properties in ZTA. The outer layers contained Al2O3 and unstabilized ZrO2 and the central layer contained Al2O3 and stabilized ZrO2(with 5.10wt% Y2O3). When cooled from the sintering temperature, some of zirconia in the outer layers transformed to the monoclinic form while zirconia in the central layer was retained in the tetragonal form. The transformation which induces to dilatational expansion led to the estabilishmenet of compressive stress in the outer layers and balances tensile stress in the central layer. Decrease of outer layer thickness(for a fixed total thickness)increases residual compressive stress. Because of residual compressive stress in the outer layers, the fracture toughness of outer layers of 3-layers composite is 10.21 Mpam1/2, which is increased to 25% above in comparison with 1-layer specimens in ZTA. Also, the 3-layers composite is believed to exhibite greater fracture resistance in contact damage environment from thermal shock test.

We have investigated the relationship between a viscosity of the slip prepared from kaolin, quartz, $Mg(OH)_2$, etc and its influence on the speed of slip casting and the microsturcture of a sintered body. The speed of slip casting decreases as a viscosity of a slip decreases. The optimized viscosity range of a slip was found to be around $3.0\~17.0\;cP$. By careful controlling a viscosity of slip, homogeneous microstructure of outer surface layers, inner surface layers, intermediate layers, and inside layers were obtained by casting process. The specimen sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ consists of a cordierite crystalline phase only as a constituent mineral.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the thermal effects on the behaviour reinforced-concrete beams strengthened by bonded angle-ply laminated composites laminates plate $[{\pm}{\theta}n/90m]_S$. Effects of number of $90^{\circ}$ layers and number of ${\pm}{\theta}$ layers on the distributions of interfacial stress in concrete beams reinforced with composite plates have also been studied. The present results represent a simple theoretical model to estimate shear and normal stresses. The effects the temperature, mechanical properties of the fibre orientation angle of the outer layers, the number of cross-ply layers, plate length of the strengthened beam region and adhesive layer thickness on the interfacial shear and normal stresses are investigated and discussed.

This paper addresses the efficiency of thermal insulation layers applied to protect structural elements strengthened by fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP) in the case of fire event. The paper presents numerical modeling and nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) columns externally strengthened by FRP and protected by thermal insulation layers when subjected to elevated temperature specified by standard fire tests, in order to predict their residual capacity and fire endurance. The adopted numerical approach uses commercial software includes heat transfer, variation of thermal and mechanical properties of concrete, steel reinforcement, FRP and insulation material with elevated temperature. The numerical results show good agreement with published results of full-scale fire tests. A parametric study was conducted to investigate the influence of several variables on the structural response and residual capacity of insulated FRP-confined columns loaded by service loads when exposed to fire. The residual capacity of FRP-confined RC column was affected by concrete grade and insulation material and was shown to improve substantially by increasing the concrete cover and insulation layer thickness. By increasing the VG insulation layer thickness 15, 32, 44, 57 mm, the loss in column capacity after 5 hours of fire was 30%, 13%, 7% and 5%, respectively. The obtained results demonstrate the validity of the presented approach for estimation of fire endurance and residual strength, as an alternative for fire testing, and for design of fire protection layers for FRP-confined RC columns.

We investigated theoretically the current-voltage characteristics of resonant tunneling diodes with a single quantum well structure. using a self-consistent method. This method is a numerical analysis which is able to include the effects of the undoped spacer layer and the band bending by charge accumulation and depletion on the contact layers which have not been considered in the flat-band model reported by Esaki. so that it is better suited to explain experimental results. The structure used is an $AL_{0.5}Ga_{0.5}AS/GaAs/Al_{0.5}Ga_{0.5}AS$ single quantum well. In this work. we estimate the theoretical current-voltage characteristics of the same structure, and then, the dependence of the current-voltage curves on the thickness of undoped spacer layers sandwiched between the barrier and highly n-doped GaAs contact layer.
The objective of this research was to evaluate the immune response to Salmonella Gallinarum experimentally infected layers fed with Guanosine 5'-monophosphate-chelated calcium and iron feed additives. Hy-Line brown, 34 week-olds layers were assigned to 3 groups; Group 1: basal diet feed, Group 2 (CaFe-GMP): basal diet feed mixed with chelated calcium and iron, and Group 3 (Fe-OCHT): basal diet feed mixed with chitosan for 4 weeks. There were challenged with 1.0×108 CFU/mL of the cultured Salmonella Gallinarum (SG) by oral administration on 28th feeding days. After SG challenge, Flow cytometric profiles showed that the CD4+/CD8+ T lymphocyte activation of Group 2 was much higher than Group 1 and Group 3 (P<0.05). In addition, the levels of interleukin-2 (13.37 mg/dl) and interferon-γ (2.35 mg/dl) in Group 2 were higher than Group 1 and Group 2. Populations of Lactic acid bacteria (3.5×1010 CFU/g) from cecum was highest observed in group 2. Re-isolation of SG from cecum in group 2 (8×105 CFU/g) was lower than group 1 (1.83×1010 CFU/g). The result of this study demonstrated that CaFe-GMP feed additive may be one of the potential candidates to control salmonellosis and functional feeds in layers.
The Neural Network Models which mathematically interpret human thought processes were applied to resolve the uncertainty of model parameters and to increase the model's output for the streamflow forecast model. In order to test and verify the flood discharge forecast model eight flood events observed at Kumho station located on the midstream of Kumho river were chosen. Six events of them were used as test data and two events for verification. In order to make an analysis the Levengerg-Marquart method was used to estimate the best parameter for the Neural Network model. The structure of the model was composed of five types of models by varying the number of hidden layers and the number of nodes of hidden layers. Moreover, a logarithmic-sigmoid varying function was used in first and second hidden layers, and a linear function was used for the output. As a result of applying Neural Networks models for the five models, the N10-6model was considered suitable when there is one hidden layer, and the Nl0-9-5model when there are two hidden layers. In addition, when all the Neural Network models were reviewed, the Nl0-9-5model, which has two hidden layers, gave the most preferable results in an actual hydro-event.

An experimental investigation on the near-field electromagnetic loss of thin copper layers has been presented using microfabricated microwave transceivers for applications to multi-chip microsystems. Copper layers in the thickness range of 0.2$\mu$m∼200$\mu$m have been electroplated on the Pyrex glass substrates. Microwave transceivers have been fabricated using the 3.5mm$\times$3.5mm nickel microloop antennas, electroformed on the silicon substrates. Electromagnetic radiation loss of the copper layers placed between the microloop transceivers has been measured as 10dB∼40dB for the wave frequency range of 100MHz∼1GHz. The 0.2$\mu$m-thick copper layer provides a shield loss of 20dB at the frequencies higher than 300MHz, whereas showing a predominant decreases of shield loss to 10dB at lower frequencies. No substantial increase of the shield effectiveness has been found for the copper shield layers thicker that 2 $\mu$m.
Lead apron is harmful to the human body because it is made at heavy metals, and when worn for long periods of time, it causes pain. Therefore, this paper intended to improve the defects of lead apron by using new material shields. For the comparative evaluation of lead and new material shieldes, the shielding rate and weight were measured and tested based on lead 0.5 mmPb. The rate of shielding was 97% based on lead at 0.5 mm thickness, while The new material shield T3 showed similar shielding rates as lead in 8 layers, and in T2 these values were measured in 11 layers. In addition, similar shielding rate was measured in 12 layers at B2, and 8 layers in BF, and 4 layers in $BF_2$. Comparing the weight of cases when commercialized with apron, T3, T2 and B2 were heavier than lead apron. But BF, $BF_2$ were lighter than the lead apron. Based on the results of the experiment, T3 and T2 can be used as an alternative to lead if human or environmental hazards are considered a priority. However, BF and $BF_2$ should be used if the reduction of external exposure is considered a priority.
PURPOSES: The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between the FWD back-calculated modulus and dynamic modulus of asphalt layers for existing asphalt pavements. METHODS: To evaluate the dynamic modulus of the asphalt mixture in the existing and new asphalt layers, the uniaxial direct tension test was conducted on small asphalt specimens obtained from the existing asphalt-covered pavements. A dynamic modulus master curve was estimated by using the uniaxial direct tension test for each asphalt layer. The falling weight deflectometer (FWD) testing was conducted on the test sections, and the modulus values of pavement layers were back-calculated using the genetic algorithm and the finite element method based back-calculation program. The relationship between measured and back-calculated asphalt layer moduli was examined in this study. The normalized dynamic modulus was adopted to predict the stiffness characteristics of asphalt layers more accurately. RESULTS: From this study, we can conclude that there is no close relationship between dynamic modulus of first layer and back-calculated asphalt modulus. The dynamic moduli of second and third asphalt layers have some relation with asphalt stiffness. Test results also showed that the normalized dynamic modulus of the asphalt mixture is closely related to the FWD back-calculated modulus with 0.73 of R square value. CONCLUSIONS: The back-calculated modulus of asphalt layer can be used as an indicator of the stiffness characteristics of asphalt layers in the asphalt-covered pavements.
