  • This study examined the perception of teachers and students on the practice of elementary science class. For this study, an examination tool was made by extracting characteristics of good science class through precedent study investigation and revising it in a questionnaire form of a Likert scale, and conducted to 194 elementary teachers and 320 elementary students. As a result of the study, teachers generally perceived science class positively and teachers with career more than 6 years thought it more positively than them with career less than 5 years. Consequently students have a substantially positive perception level about the practice of the elementary science class, and students of 3th and 4th grade perceived science class positively than 5th and 6th grade in all domains. Finally when analyzing perception difference between teachers and students about the practice of the elementary science class, it appeared that students perceived science class more positively than teachers in most questions.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to describe child perceived health knowledge, health education needs, and health behaviors by grade in a representative general characteristic and examined their associations for students' better health behaviors. Methods: The survey participants were 410 fourth to sixth grade students in two elementary schools in Seoul, Korea. A total of 12 classes in two elementary schools were randomly selected and all students of the selected classes participated in the self-administered survey. The questionnaire contained the items of perceived health knowledge, health education needs(health topics which they want to know more), health behavior, and general characteristics. Results: Perceived health knowledge, health education needs, and health behaviors were, generally, better in the $4^{th}$ grade students than $5^{th}$ or $6^{th}$ grade students. That is, higher grade students had lower perceived health knowledge, lower health education needs, and lower health behavior status. Specifically, there was significant grade differences in 'significance of publichealth,' 'nutritionandhealthyeating,' 'desirablehealthhabits,' 'humansex,' 'physical development in childhood,' 'stress management & drugcontrol,' and 'injury prevention.' Correlations between perceived health knowledge and health behavior were low or medium in all grades. However, correlations between perceived health education needs and health were significant in the $4^{th}$ grade students but not significant in the $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ grade students. Conclusions: There was significant grade difference of the relationship between health knowledge, health education needs, and health behaviors among children. In general, the lower the grade the better the health knowledge, educational needs, and health behavior. Health education needs were more significant by grade than perceived health knowledge and health behaviors.

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate the development of elementary school student's reasoning strategies used in proportional tasks. Three hundred and ninety elementary students were sampled to investigate their reasoning strategies used in Pouring Water Tasks. Results showed that 4 percentage of students used proportional reasoning strategy. By the way, about 80 % of students used qualitative guess or additive strategies to solve proportion tasks. Further, about fifth-grade or 11-year-old students began to use proportional reasoning strategy. Also, female and malt students' development of reasoning strategies improved from 1st grade across 5th grade and from 6-year-old across 11-year-old. However, female did not show the improvement of strategy development after 5th-grade or 11-year-old. However, male students showed a continuous improvement after the grade or age. In addition, students showed developmental patterns of spurts and plateau, ra thor than a linear developmental pattern. The present study also discussed educational implications of this findings in school curriculum.

  • The purpose of this study is to see correlation between parental psychological control and volition control in mathematics learning of 6th grade of elementary school. This study has carried out a survey for 371 male and female students in 6th grade of elementary school in Gyeongnam. We analyzed the collected data statistically, and the results are as follows. First, there was a significant difference in the level of volition control in mathematics learning between male and female students. The level of volition control in mathematics learning was found to be higher in female groups than in male groups. Second, there was no significant difference in father and mother's psychological control level perceived by 6th grade elementary school students. Third, there was a significant negative correlation between parental psychological control and their children's level of volition control in mathematics learning. In this study, by examining the correlation between parental psychological control and volition control level in mathematics learning of elementary school students, the higher the parental psychological control, the lower the level of volition control of their children. So, that it is important to have a parenting attitude that respects their children's emotion and expression.
