Recently, the spread of 3D printers has been increasing the demand for 3D models. However, the creation of 3D models should have a trained specialist using specialized softwares. This paper is about an algorithm to produce a 3D model from a single sheet of two-dimensional front face photograph, so that ordinary people can easily create 3D models. The background and the foreground are separated from a photo and predetermined constant number vertices are placed on the seperated foreground 2D image at a same interval. The arranged vertex location are extended in three dimensions by using the gray level of the pixel on the vertex and the characteristics of eyebrows and nose of the nomal human face. The separating method of the foreground and the background uses the edge information of the silhouette. The AdaBoost algorithm using the Haar-like feature is also employed to find the location of the eyes and nose. The 3D models obtained by using this algorithm are good enough to use for 3D printing even though some manual treatment might be required a little bit. The algorithm will be useful for providing 3D contents in conjunction with the spread of 3D printers.

Recently, the growth of the computer-related industries lead to the growth of the computer-aided education. Virtual training (VT) is one of the most interesting education methods. Many 3D models for the VT contents have been produced, but little research has been performed for the unified management system to promote the reuse of 3D models. This paper proposes the unified 3D model management system. The 3D model file formats are surveyed to find a format that can be easily used by many VT content production softwares. The 3D model files will be stored in a central DB server. The structure of the DB system will be designed for 3D models. The system provides an easy way to search and download a 3D model. With the proposed system, the reuse of 3D models is expected to be promoted.
Recently, various 4D CAD systems for visualizing construction schedule data are being developed. Specially, in case of railway project, the numerical information of progress data should be changed with visualized data by long construction section because the railway project consists of long length in construction site. This study suggests a case study of development of 4D CAD system for visualizing schedule information and the major functions of developed system are verified by railway project. The detailed application procedure of 4D CAD system including input data for a railway project is described in the study. The practical application of 4D CAD system can be improved in railway project by these demonstration researches.
This paper proposes a 3D fashion design system that generates a 3D clothes model by using 2D patterns of clothes and drapes the 3D clothes model on a 3D human model. In the proposed system, 2D patterns of clothes are designed by selecting comer points of 2D mesh. After designing 2D patterns, a 3D clothes model is designed by describing the control points to be connected between 2D patterns. The proposed system reads a 3D human body model file and the designed 3D clothes model and creates a 3D human model putting on the clothes by using the mass-spring model based physical simulation. It calculates collision and reaction between the triangles of human body model and those of clothes for realistic simulation. Because the number of triangles is very large, the collision and reaction processing need a lot of time. To solve this problem, the proposed system decreases the number of collision and reaction processing by using the Octree space subdivision technique. It took a few seconds for generating a 3D human model putting on the designed 3D clothes.
In 3D computer graphics, fractal techniques have been applied to terrain models. Even though fractal models have become popular for recreating a wide variety of the shapes found in nature, a specific 3D terrain model such as Uleung Island could not be formulated by statistical fractals easily owing to the random effects. However, by locating the midpoints on the edges and the surface of a specific terrain such as Uleung Island, a similar shape of the terrain model can be simulated. This paper shows the way of simulating 3D Uleung Island terrain model by the statistical fractals wherein the subdivision algorithm is used.
In this letter, we propose a novel computational integral imaging reconstruction technique based on a lenslet array model. The proposed technique provides improvement of viewing images by extracting multiple pixels from elemental images according to ray tracing based on the lenslet array model. To show the feasibility of the proposed technique, we analyze it according to ray optics and present the experimental results.
In response to the recent 4th industrial revolution, the demand for 3D object models in the latest fields of digital twin, autonomous driving, and VR/AR, as well as the existing fields such as city, construction, transportation, and energy has increased significantly. It is expected that the demand for 3D object models with various precision from LOD1 to LOD4 will increase more and more in various industry fields. However, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the local government and the private sector have partially built 3D object models of different precisions for some specific regions because of the huge cost. Therefore, this study proposes a feasible plan that can solve the cost problem in generating 3D object models for the whole territory. For our purpose, we first analyzed usage, demand, generation technology and generation cost for 3D object models. Afterwards, we proposed LOD3 model generation plan for all territory using automatic 3D object model generation technology based on image matching. Additionally, we supplemented the proposed plan by using LOD4 generation plan for landmarks and LOD2 generation plan non-urban area. In the near future, we expect this would be a great help in establishing a feasible and effective 3D object model generation plan for the whole country.
This paper presents a method for evaluating interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) performance over the entire operation region. Using a d-q axis equivalent circuit model consisting of motor parameters such as the permanent magnetic flux, copper resistance, core loss resistance, and d-q axis inductance, a conventional mathematical model of an IPMSM has been developed. It is well understood that in IPMSMs, magnetic operating conditions cause cross saturation and that the iron loss resistance - upon which core losses depend - changes according to the motor speed; for the sake of convenience, however, d-q axis machine models usually neglect the influence of magnetic cross saturation and assume that the iron loss resistance is constant. This paper proposes an analysis method based on considering a magnetic cross saturation and estimating a core loss resistance that changes with the operating conditions and speed. The proposed method is then verified by means of a comparison between the computed and the experimental results.

A pendubot is a representative example of an underactuated system that has fewer actuators than the degree of freedom of the system. In this study, the characteristics of the pendubot are first reviewed; each part is then designed using Solidworks by dividing the pendubot into three parts: the base frame, first link frame, and second link frame. These three parts are then imported into the Simulink environment via a STEP file format, which is the standard protocol used in data exchange between CAD applications. A 3D model of the pendubot is then constructed using Simscape, and the usefulness of the 3D model is validated by a comparison with a dynamic equation derived using the Lagrangian formulation. A linearized model around an upright equilibrium position is finally obtained, and a sliding mode controller is designed based on the linear quadratic regulator. Simulation results showed that the designed controller effectively maintained upright balance of the pendubot in the presence of disturbance.

Background: This study evaluated the cost-effectiveness of 21 different national dyslipidemia screening strategies according to total cholesterol (TC) cutoff and screening interval among 40 years or more for the primary prevention of coronary heart disease over a lifetime in Korea, from a societal perspective. Methods: A decision tree was used to estimate disease detection with the 21 different screening strategies, while a Markov model was used to model disease progression until death, quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) and costs from a Korea societal perspective. Results: The results showed that the strategy with TC 200 mg/dL and 4-year interval cost \4,625,446 for 16.65105 QALYs per person and strategy with TC 200 mg/dL and 3-year interval cost \4,691,771 for 16.65164 QALYs compared with \3,061,371 for 16.59877 QALYs for strategy with no screening. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio of strategy with TC 200 mg/dL and 4-year interval versus strategy with no screening was \29,916,271/QALY. At a Korea willingness-to-pay threshold of \30,500,000/QALY, strategy with TC 200 mg/dL and 4-year interval is cost-effective compared with strategy with no screening. Sensitivity analyses showed that results were robust to reasonable variations in model parameters. Conclusion: In this study, revised national dyslipidemia screening strategy with TC 200 mg/dL and 4-year interval could be a cost-effective option. A better understanding of the Korean dyslipidemia population may be necessary to aid in future efforts to improve dyslipidemia diagnosis and management.
