  • In the present study, pure RHO zeolite was hydrothermally synthesized by using 18-crown-6 ether as a structure directing agent(SDA), and the small gases adsorption was investigated. Synthesized RHO zeolite was a cube shape particle of which average edge length was around $1.2{\mu}m$ and composed of primary crystallites having a diameter of around 100 to 200 nm. RHO zeolite structure was stable under 3h calcination at $600^{\circ}C$. Water adsorption data announced that RHO zeolite has a specific surface area of 483.32 m2/g and its micropore diameter was about 4 A. Gas adsorption was studied in the pressure range of 50 to 500 kPa for $CO_2$, $N_2$, $O_2$ and $H_2$. It was evident that RHO zeolite showed a strong $CO_2$ adsorption behavior. Especially, RHO zeolite showed a transient $CO_2$ adsorption behavior. The 3h $CO_2$ up-take at 50 kPa and 500 kPa was 1.283 and 3.357 mmol/g, respectively. The $CO_2/H_2$ selectivity was around 16 at 500 kPa. Compared with gas adsorption data for some representative microporous adsorbents, it was certain that RHO zeolite is a beneficial adsorbent for $CO_2/H_2$ separation.

  • Zeolite A helps an increase of detergency performance according to showing the ion exchange effect for polyvalant ions and it's detergency performance could be calculated quantitatively by using the disperse stabilization theory because it is water-insoluble material and is as colloid particles in aqueous solution. In this study, zeta potential of carbon black, cellulose, and Zeolite A were measured in each inorganic salt solutions and applied to the theory of Heterocoagulation in order to evaluate the detergency performance of Zeolite A about the particulate soil at the view point of interaction potential energy. Zeolite A was shown help an increase of detergency performance according to the increasing of the steric repulsion between Zeolite A and cellulose in $Na2CO_3$ solution and the decrease of re-deposition of carbon black on the fabric by rapid coagulation with carbon black in $Na_2SO_4$ solution.

  • In this study, a magnetic adsorbent was synthesized by growing ferrite nanoparticles substituted with metals (Me = Co, Mn, Ni) on zeolite 4A for the efficient separation of waste adsorbents present in the solution after the adsorption of Cu(II). The metal ferrite grown on the surface of zeolite was prepared by solvothermal synthesis. Characteristics of the magnetic adsorbent were analyzed by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and physical property measurement system (PPMS). The saturation magnetization of the A type zeolite coated with Co-ferrite (CFZC) was the highest at 5 emu/g and the Cu(II) adsorption performance was also excellent. The adsorption results of Cu(II) on CFZC were well fitted by the Langmuir model at 298 K. Also, the adsorption of Cu(II) on CFZC follows a pseudo-second order kinetic. The Gibbs free energy values (${\Delta}G^0$) ranging from -4.63 to -5.21 kJ/mol indicates that the Cu(II) adsorption is spontaneous in the temeprature range between 298 and 313 K.

  • The feasibility of using ammonium (${NH_4}^+$) and potassium ($K^+$)-loaded zeolite (NK-Z) as a slow-release fertilizer to control nitrogen and potassium supply was investigated in this study. The growth responses, which were determined in terms of shoot length, shoot fresh weight, and fresh fruit weight, were greater in plants treated with NK-Z than in those treated with chemical fertilizers (CF) after 18 weeks of transplantation. The total fruit weight per plant in treated with NK-Z as the basal and additional fertilizer (ZBAF) was 14.89% higher than that of CF. The nitrogen and potassium contents in NK-Z amended soils were higher than those in CF amended soils in the final stage of plant growth. The ammonium nitrogen ($NH_4$-N) concentration in ZBAF amended soils was 63.41% higher than that in CF amended soils.

  • Addition of heavy textured red earth is being recommended to improve the texture and nutirent retention capacity of sandy soil in Korea. However, farmers are not favorable to this description because of high transportation cost and hard working. To solve this pending problem a field experiment was carried out to investigate the possibility of application of Zeolite as a foreign earth material to improve the physical and chemical characteristics of sandy soil. The experiment results suggested that Zeolite mixed with the basal N fertilizer would be substituted for other foreign earth materials in aspects of rice yield and nitrogen uptake of rice shoot. On the other hand, ammonium adsorption characteristics of soil and amendments were studied.

  • This study assessed the use of zeolite with high absorption performance in landscape paving concrete as a substitute for aggregate. The absorption performance and strength properties of paving concrete were investigated according to the replacement rate of the zeolite coarse aggregate, and the mechanical properties were investigated through strength tests. The absorption rate of the zeolite aggregate was 14%, which is 2.5 times higher than that of general aggregate. When zeolite coarse aggregate is applied to paving concrete, the absorption rate increases according to the replacement rate. The absorption rate was 5.2% at a replacement rate of 50%, which was 42% higher than that of general paving concrete. The compressive strength increased to 20% of the replacement rate and decreased at a higher replacement, but all the strengths in the construction standard code were satisfied. The flexural strength satisfied the code up to a replacement rate of 10%, but the strength decreased with increasing replacement rate, and the splitting tensile strength was greater than that of paving concrete using general aggregate up to a 20% replacement rate. Overall, zeolite coarse aggregate can be applied as a substitute.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the effect of zeolite addition on biofloc in aictvated sludge process. Two units were compared each other, in which one was operated as control unit (CU) and the other was managed by adding zeolite into aeration basin to sustain 4,000 mg/l (ZU). It was observed that flocs of both units were enduringly increased in medium size by extending SRT (Solid Retention Time), although their effect size of ZU was smaller than theirs of CU. Zeolite application excessively improved sludge settling property and ZU presented sludge settling velocity of 3.4 to 11 m/h regardless of SRT variation. The sludge volume index (SVI) was in the range of 50 and 108 ml/g. Conversely, the sludge settling velocity of CU seriously depended on SRT increase, and sludge sedimentation was not achieved at a 40 days of SRT due to Sphaerotilus appeared predominantly in reactor.

  • The removal performance of copper ion was studied using Na-P1 zeolites synthesized from Jeju scoria. The scoria which is found in large amounts in Jeju Island, was sampled at four regions, Jeju-shi Bonggae-dong(A). Pukcheju-gun Hanlim-eup Sangmyong-ri Mangoreum(B), Pukcheju-gun Hanlim-eup Keumag-ri(C) and Namcheju-gun Andeok-myun Dongkwang-ri(D). Synthetic Na-P1 zeolites used in this study were more effective than natural zeolite and scoria for the removal of copper ion. The removal performances of copper ion decreased in the order of Na-P1(D) > Na-P1(C) > Na-P1(B) > Na-P1(A) among Na-P1 synthesized from the scoria according to region. These results showed the same trend with cation exchange capacity(CEC) for each synthetic zeolite, i.e., the synthetic Na-P1 zeolite with a higher CEC showed a higher removal performance. The effective diffusion coefficients of copper ion by synthetic Na-P1 zeolites were one hundred and ten times higher than those by a pure zeolite 4A and the zeolite A synthesized from coal fly ash, respectively.
