경계 요소법과 평면파 이론을 이용한 흡기계 해석 (An Analysis of Intake System using BEM and 1-D Solution)

  • The application of the 4-pole parameter method with 1 - D theory is acceptable for intake system analysis. However, the limitaion appears during the analysis of complicated intake system since this method is developed based on the plane wave thoery. For the intake system analysis, the usage of BEM(Boundary Element Method) is introduced describing its disadvantage. To combine benefits of both method. a hybrid method is introduced. This hybrid method consists of the 4-pole parameter with I-D theory and BEM. The developed method is applied to an automobile intake system analysis to obtain the transmission loss.

배기 소음기 구조가 삽입손실에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Insertion Loss on the Element of Exhaust Muffler)

  • The performances of the simple expansion, perforated tube, and conical-connector type as an exhaust muffler are shown in this study. Applying a model in which the method of four-pole parameter is used makes theoretical estimation of the insertion loss. Experiment is performed for the measurement of the insertion loss under four cases according to the variation of the tail pipe length. By comparing the theoretical prediction with the experimental results, the validity of the modeling using the method of four-pole parameter is verified. The personal computer simulation programs for the above mentioned theory on the muffler design have been developed and exhaust sound level measurements have been carried out for simple expansion muffler, conical-connector muffler, perforated tube mufflers and the combined type of conical-connector and simple expansion muffler. The measured results for attenuation characteristics of noise for each muffler are compared with the computed theoretical results to verity the confidence and applicable limits of the theoretical equation derived.

  • Up to now, numerical methods such as Finite Element Method(FEM) or Boundary Element Method(BEM) have been widely used to find the optimized resonator's position during designing a car intake system. However, these methods are not useful at the first stage of car design since it is not easy to change a numerical model consist of a large mesh size. A software has been developed to cover the defects using 4-pole parameter method. The software is running at Windows 95 environment for a user's convenience. To show its usefulness, it is applied to a real automobile intake system.

ROBUST CONTROLLER DESIGN FOR IMPROVING VEHICLE ROLL CONTROL

  • This paper presents a robust controller design approach for improving vehicle dynamic roll motion performance and guaranteeing the closed-loop system stability in spite of vehicle parameter variations resulting from aging elements, loading patterns, and driving conditions, etc. The designed controller is linear parameter-varying (LPV) in terms of the time-varying parameters; its control objective is to minimise the $H_{\infty}$ performance from the steering input to the roll angle while satisfying the closed-loop pole placement constraint such that the optimal dynamic roll motion performance is achieved and robust stability is guaranteed. The sufficient conditions for designing such a controller are given as a finite number of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Numerical simulation using the three-degree-of-freedom (3-DOF) yaw-roll vehicle model is presented. It shows that the designed controller can effectively improve the vehicle dynamic roll angle response during J-turn or fishhook maneuver when the vehicle's forward velocity and the roll stiffness are varied significantly.

  • This paper considers acoustic analysis of silencer within a Dry vacuum pump. Main object is noise reduction of Dry Vacuum Pump using the silencer. First, we measured SPL and Intensity for noise source identification and then, designed for the silencer corresponding with noise character. 4-pole parameter are used for predicting transmission loss which is one of characteristics of silencer when we designed for silencer. Calculated Transmission Loss to change main effective factor and selected to optimal value using Design of Experiment. Finally, noise reduction is estimated to compare existing silencer with optimal silencer.

  • 4-Pole parameter method based on an acoustic theory is very popular for the analysis of the acoustic behavior of the car exhaust system. However, this method is applicable only for the simple shape of acoustic elements of the muffler. Numerical methods such as FEM(Finite Element Method) or BEM(Boundary Element Method) can also provide acceptable results for the acoustic analysis of the car exhaust system. Even though these numerical methods have benefits for the analysis of complicated shape of acoustic elements of the muffler, time consuming is another problem during modeling and numerical calculation. Combining benefits of both methods, the new code called the hybrid method for car exhaust system is introduced. And the developed code is utilized for calculation of the transmission loss of a main muffler of an automobile comparing with the experimental results.

자성유체시일의 마찰토크와 온도분포 해석에 관한 연구 (A Study On the Friction Torque and Temperature Distribution of Magnetic Fluid Seals)

  • The performance characteristics of magnetic fluid seals are studied numerically as a function of working gap, pole width, angle of pole sharpening, and shaft speed. The temperature distribution of a magnetic fluid seal with multiple tooth is investigated as a function of the contact fraction of magnetic fluids at the periphery of pole tooth using a finite element method. The most significant design parameter of a magnetic fluid seal is the working gap between the pole pieces and the rotating shaft. The result shows that with increasing the working gap, the friction torque decreases radically. The practical working gap for the pole pieces with triangular tooth zone profile is 0.2-0.4mm. The FEM results indicate that the optimal filling of a magnetic fluid between the pole pieces and the shaft is very important due to the accumulations of nonuniform friction heating within the pole pieces, which may interfere the magnetic circuit flow.

정밀저항시리즈 점용접에서 너깃의 대칭성에 미치는 공정변수의 영향 (The Effect of Process Parameter on the Symmetry of Nugget in Micro-resistance Series Spot Welding)

  • The aim of this experiment is to establish the method that obtains symmetrically two nuggets in microresistance series spot welding. The sheets of austenite stainless steel STS304 applied to various electronic parts were experimented by the inverter welding power source of polarity controllable type and by the twin head for left and right electrode force to be controlled separately. The experimental results were obtained as follows : 1) When series spot welding was carried out by DC 1 pulse as welding current with same electrode force at left and right, the asymmetry of nuggets was resulted from the larger nugget of the (-) pole because of the Peltier effect. The dynamic resistance of weld spot at left and right was appeared differently according to the growth of nuggets. 2) When AC 1 cycle by welding power source of polarity controllable type was applied, the nuggets were almost symmetrically formed. 3) In a twin head, if the electrode force of (-) pole was larger than that of (+) pole, the diameters of two nuggets became to same. It was confirmed that the dynamic resistance of (-) pole was decreased to the same level as it of (+) pole. 4) Although the forces of left and right electrode were same, and only DC 1 pulse was applied, symmetric nuggets were obtained if the conductivity of (+) pole was lower than it of (-) pole.

민감도기법과 RSM을 이용한 대용량 BLDC 전동기 영구자석의 형상 최적화 (A Magnet Pole Shape Optimization of a Large Scale BLDC Motor Using a RSM With Design Sensitivity Analysis)

  • This paper presents an algorithm for the permanent magnet shape optimization of a large scale BLDC(Brushless DC) motor to minimize the cogging torque. A response surface method (RSM) using multiquadric radial basis function is employed to interpolate the objective function in design parameter space. In order to get a reasonable response surface with relatively small number of sampling data points, additional sampling points are added on the basis of design sensitivity analysis computed by using FEM. The algorithm has 2 stages: the first stage is to determine the PM arc angle, and the 2nd stage is to optimize the magnet pole shape. The developed algorithm is applied to a 5MW BLDC motor to get a minimum cogging torque. After 3 iterations with 4 design parameters, the cogging torque is reduced to 13.2% of the initial one.

  • Analogous problem for a gear dynamics where helical gears excite logitudinal forces in the shaft is studied. These shaft forces excite the supporting gear housing through bearing, causing structural vibration. In this study, shaft is modeled as a rod, and bearing is modeled by a massless spring. A simple model for gear housing is a clamped circular plate. To model this force transmission, the transfer functions from the shaft to a clamped circular plate are analytically derived by using the spectral method and four-pole parameter. Finally, radiated noise is computed, using the acoustic relations due to plate surface vibration.
