Earned Value Management Systems Using 4D-CAD (4D CAD 활용을 통한 공정-원가 통합 시스템)

  • Cost and schedule are the major concerns for the successful construction project management. The four dimensional CAD (4D CAD) integrating graphical data and scheduling data has also been an area of research interests for improving construction controls. In order to achieve the benefits from these areas in an integrated way, this study proposes a 4D-EVMS system for the owners. Managerial requirements for cost and schedule control for the owners are identified first. A 4D-EVMS model is then proposed which provides functional flexibility in order to enhance the efficiency of the system. Lessons learned and practical implications are briefly summarize.

4D CAD Drawings based on Marker-based Augmented Reality (마커 기반 증강현실 4D CAD 도면)

  • Two-dimensional drawings are widely used as a communication tool in the construction industry, but they are still hard to be understood by engineers with less experience. A four dimensional CAD drawing is presented based on marker-based augmented reality, for visual assistance, detailed information, and prevention of misunderstanding among users. The developed drawing enables the users to easily understand its contents through the functions augmenting components, providing detailed construction information, and simulating construction process, using the marker in a 2D drawing. A questionnaire-based survey validates the capability of the developed drawing that it improves inexperienced engineers' understanding of the drawings.

  • Rapid Prototyping (RP) is a technology that produces prototype parts from 3D computer aided design model data without intermediate processing technology rapidly. CAD model data are created from 3D object digitizing systems but presented just as 2D data when they are printed as a hard copy or displayed on a monitor. However, Rapid Prototyping Technology fabricates 3D objects the same that CAD data because it transforms designed 3D CAD data into 2D cross sectional data, and manufactures layer by layer deposition sequentially. But most of all the small and medium scale companies which produce a toothbrush, a toy and such like provisions are in difficult situations to buy RP system because it is very expensive. In this paper, we propose a 3D control system adopting open source programs for implementing Rapid Prototyping Technology in order that RP system can be purchase at a moderate price.

  • Three dimensional urban models are being increasingly applied for various purposes such as city planning, telecommunication cell planning, traffic analysis, environmental monitoring and disaster management. In recent years, technologies from CAD and GIS are being merged to find optimal solutions in three dimensional modeling of urban buildings. These solutions include modeling of the interior building space as well as its exterior shape visualization. Research and development effort in this area has been performed by scientists and engineers from Computer Graphics, CAD and GIS. Computer Graphics and CAD focussed on precise and efficient visualization, where as GIS emphasized on topology and spatial analysis. Complementary research effort is required for an effective model to serve both visualization and spatial analysis purposes. This study presents an efficient way of using the CAD plans included in the building register documents to reconstruct the internal space of buildings. Topological information was built in the geospatial database and merged with the geometric information of CAD plans. as well as other attributal data from the building register. The GIS network modeling method introduced in this study is expected to enable an effective 3 dimensional spatial analysis of building interior which is developing with increasing complexity and size.

Development of 4D CT Data Generation Program based on CAD Models through the Convergence of Biomedical Engineering (CAD 모델 기반의 4D CT 데이터 제작 의용공학 융합 프로그램 개발)

  • In the present study, we developed the 4D CT data generation program from CAD-based models. To evaluate the developed program, a CAD-based respiratory motion phantom was designed using CAD software, and converted into 4D CT dataset, which include 10 phases of 3D CTs. The generated 4D CT dataset was evaluated its effectiveness and accuracy through the implementation in radiation therapy planning system (RTPS). Consequently, the results show that the generated 4D CT dataset can be successfully implemented in RTPS, and targets in all phases of 4D CT dataset were moved well according to the user parameters (10 mm) with its stationarily volume (8.8 cc). The developed program, unlike real 4D CT scanner, due to the its ability to make a gold-standard dataset without any artifacts constructed by modality's movements, we believe that this program will be used when the motion effect is important, such as 4D radiation treatment planning and 4D radiation imaging.

Development of Program for Designing Barrel Cam of Machine Making Paper Cups (종이컵 성형기용 배럴 캠 설계 프로그램 개발)

  • A machine that makes paper cups has many parts, including a barrel cam, an index, and a turret. When the barrel cam, which is the main operating part of the machine, rotates, it pushes the roller fixed on the index, and paper cups are formed as the turret connected to the index rotates. Therefore, the performance of the machine is affected by the barrel cam. In this study, the program for designing barrel cam, which creates the profile of the cam is developed using MATLAB. This profile is used to develop a 3D CAD model by using a 3D CAD program. Dynamic models containing the barrel cam are created on the basis of the profile and 3D laser scan of the barrel cam. Further, the rotation angle of the index in the machine is measured using a high-speed camera. The rotation angles of the dynamics models are compared to verify the effectiveness of the program.

  • A new product development procedure that uses a rapid prototyping and 3D CAD has been suggested. By applying this procedure to the development of an aroma diffuser, considerable amount of development time and cost were reduced. Moreover, by using 3D CAD from the early design stage, the number of trial and error can be reduced.

Sharing Ship Design Model Based on STEP methodology (STEP 방법론을 이용한 선박설계 모델의 공유)

  • Hull design data is currently prepared by a 2D CAD system and re-input to 3D CAD systems specialized for detail design or to a structural analysis system. In this paper, sharing design data among different CAD systems has been studied. Based on STEP methodology, a neutral model is generated from 2D AutoCAD drawings. To handle a geometric data of this model, the non-manifold model of ACIS is used because it can support various CAD data representation such as 2D graphic entities, 3D wireframe, 3D surface model, and solid B-Rep/CSG model. It is observed that a mon-manifold model can easily be transformed to a 3-D wireframe model for the hull detail design system AutoDef or a FE model for the structural analysis system Nastran.
