Carbon nanotubes were synthesized at various conditions using Ni-catalytic thermal chemical vapor deposition method and their characteristic properties were investigated by SEM, TEM and Raman spectroscopy. Carbon nanotubes were formed on very fine Ni-catalytic particles. The carbon nanotubes synthesized by thermal decomposition of acetylene at $700^{\circ}C$ had a coiled shape, while those synthesized at $850^{\circ}C$ showed a curved and Y-shape having a bamboo-like morphology. It was found that the carbon nanotube was also made on the fine Ni-catalytic particles formed on the surface of 100~400nm sized large ones after pretreatment with $NH_3$.ber composites show the high dielectric constant and large conduction loss which is increased with anisotropy of fiber arrangement. It is, therefore, proposed that the glass and carbon fiber composites can be used as the impedance transformer (surface layer) and microwave reflector, respectively. By inserting the foam core or honeycomb core (which can be treated as an air layer) between glass and carbon fiber composites, microwave absorption above 10 dB (90% absorbance) in 4-12 GHz can be obtained. The proposed fiber composites laminates with sandwitch structure have high potential as lightweight and high strength microwave absorbers.
Oriental melon has been increased in production amount, but its processed food was not made in spite of the fact that shelf-life of the fresh fruit is short. This study was carried out to develop a dried product with no use sulfur treatment. Fresh melons were peeled, cut into 6 pieces, and soaked to the following pretreatments soaking in sugar syrup(SS), sodium chloride(SC), ascorbic acid(AA) and sodium polyphosphate(SP). After preatreatments the melon pieces were dried by hot air drying at 5$0^{\circ}C$ for 9 and 12 hours, and the dried melons were air blown at $25^{\circ}C$ for 1 day. The dried samples were evaluated for moisture content, texture, rotor, and sensory quality. The moisture content of dried melons soaked in SS and SC were lower than those that were soaked in AA and SP after hot air drying. The melons dried for 12 hours were high in hardness, gumminess, chewness and adhesiveness and excellent in sensory evaluation compared to 9 hours. The "L" value of SS was higher and the "a" value was lower in Hunter color. And SS treatment inhibited browning of the dried melon and improved sensory characteristics in color, flavor, texture and taste. Sucrose concentration had no significant effect on color, hardness and sensory score in banal product. The combination of SS with SP represented a highly effective antibrowning treatment for the dried melon and the product was kept in good color for 3 months at room temperature.at room temperature.
Auxotrophic mutant were isolated from wild types by the treatment with NTG as a mutagen, and the conditions of protoplast formation for them were established. The protoplasts of killer yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae K52 were formed to the level of above 70% when cells grown for 20 hr in PM medium were treated with 200 unit/ml Lyticase 50,000 at $30^{\circ}C$ for 60 min after pretreatment of 50 mM 2-mercaptoethanol in 10mM potassium phosphate buffer (pH 7.5) containing EDTA and 0.6 M sorbitol for 15 min. Also, the protoplast of the recipient S. cerevisiae S 29 were formed to the level of above 85% as it was cultured to the log phase of 24 hr in PM medium under the same conditions. The fusion frequency between the protoplast of killer yeast S. cerevisiae K 52 and the protoplast of recipient S. cerevisiae S 29 was reached to $8.2\times 10^{-6}$ when the hypertonic regeneration medium embeded with the fused protoplasts after mixing the parental protoplasts to 10$^{8}$ cells/ml in SP buffer containing 20 mM $CaCl_{2}$ and 30% PEG 6,000 for 15 min at $30^{\circ}C$ were incubated.
This study was conducted to investigate the facilities, cultivation, postharvest management, and distribution status of 27 cut chrysanthemum farms in Korea. The 60% of farms have cultivated the cut chrysanthemum using soil fertigation system in the PE plastic house. In Jeonnam and Busan provinces, Standard type of chrysanthemum was cultivated mainly than spray type of chrysanthemumJeoas. Most farms have been producing the rooted cuttings by plug system using cuttings self-propagated or purchased from the company, but farms in Jeonnam have been planting cuttings directly on cultivation bed. And the 66.6% of cut chrysanthemum farms have been pretreating with dipping in hot water or tap water after harvesting. Precooling was not performed on 70.4% of the farms, and precooling farms have been mainly conducted at temperature of $2-4^{\circ}C$. After harvesting, 70.4% of the farms stored the cut flowers at $2-4^{\circ}C$ for more than 48 hours to control the distribution volume. Cut chrysanthemum was graded mainly by individuals before distribution, and some export farmers have been conducting the cooperative grading. In distribution, all farms have distributed the cut flowers to the domestic markets, and 44.4% of these farms have been also exporting. The 63.0% of farms distributed to domestic market have been trading with flower auction sites.
During a dilute acid hydrolysis, degradation products are formed or liberated by pre-treatment of lignocelluloses depend on both the biomass and the pretreatment conditions such as temperature, time, pressure, pH, redox conditions, and addition of catalysts. In lignocellulosic biomass, sugars can be degraded to furfural which is formed from pentoses and 5-hydroxymethulfurfural (HMF) from hexoses. 5-HMF can be further degraded, forming levulinic acid and formic acid. Acetate is liberated from hemicellulose during hydrolysis. Some decomposed compounds hinder the subsequent bioconversion of the solubilized sugars into desired products, reducing conversion yields and rates during fermentation. In the present work, samples of rapeseed strawwere hydrolyzed to study the optimal pretreatment condition by assessing yields of sugars and decomposed products obtained under different reaction conditions ($H_2SO_4$ 0.5-1.25% (w/w), reaction time 0-20 min and temperature range 150-220 C). A careful analytical investigation of acid hydrolyzate of rapeseed straw has not yet been undertaken, and a well-closed mass balance for the hydrolyzate in general is necessary to verify the productivity and economic predictions for this process.

To utilize effectively fish skin wasted from fish processing, a dover sole skin gelatin was prepared by alkaline extraction method and the physico-chemical properties were examined. Conditions for the suitable pretreatment, extraction and decolorization for gelatin preparation from dover sole skin are as follows: the skin is limed with 1.0% calcium hydroxide solution at $5^{\circ}C$ for 4 days, washed thoroughly for 2 days with tap water, extracted with 5 volumes of water $(pH\;5.0{\sim}7.0)$ to dehydrated skin for 3 hours at $50^{\circ}C$, and then bleached with 3% activated carbon. Though dover sole skin gelatin was prepared under above conditions, physico-chemical property values such the melting point and gelling point of that were lower than those of yellowfin sole skin gelatin as well as the commercial pork skin gelatin. Therefore, the purified dover sole skin gelatin requires a suitable modification operation for better quality gelatin manufacture.
In this study, we set an optimum blanching condition as a pretreatment condition to freeze welsh onion (Allium fistulosum L.) for the purpose of preserving the cooking material for long-term usage. With higher blanching temperature and longer processing time, the Hunter color values and the hardness of welsh onion tended to decrease, which confirmed softening of the tissue. Compared to before blanching, total bacterial counts decreased to near 2 log scale, whereas coliforms were not detected or decreased to a 1-2 log scale. Blanching by heating at 100$^{\circ}C$ for 5 min decreased peroxidase inactivity to more than 94%, whereas only 47% of the inactivity was achieved at 80$^{\circ}C$ for 1 min. The sensory evaluation for the blanched and defrosted welsh onion showed that the group blanched at 80$^{\circ}C$ for 1 min was preferred significantly (p<0.05).
In this work, the amounts of Flavone C-glycosides homoorientin, orientin extracted from Black bamboo by various ultrasonic waves frequency (35, 72, 170 KHz, 300 Watt $\pm$1) time (15, 30, 60 min) and temperature ($25^{\circ}C$) were compared using 50% aqueous ethanol solution. And describesanalysis of the antioxidant potential of Black bamboo using an high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) on-line $ABTS^+$antioxidant screening method. In conjunction with the analysis of their 2,2'-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid ($ABTS^+$) radical scavenging ability. The optimum operating conditions were experimentally determined to analyze the Flavone C-glycosides homoorientin, orientin in the pretreatment ultrasonic extracts. From the results, the effect on extraction yield of variations in frequency, solvent composition and extraction time was investigated. The highest yield of Black bamboo was obtained by ultrasonic waves with a frequency of 72 KHz and an extraction time of 60 min, The extraction frequency 35 KHz ($25^{\circ}C$), time 30 min was selected as an optimal antioxidant activity condition.

In this study, we investigated the potential of producing bioethanol from Liriodendron tulipifera by using oxalic acid pretreatment. Amounts of fermentable sugars, mostly xylose and glucose, in the liquid fraction (hydrolysate) was $40.22g/{\ell}$ after the biomass was pretreated with 0.037 g/g of oxalic acid for 20 minutes at $160^{\circ}C$. Production amounts of ethanol was $8.6g/{\ell}$ from the 72 hours of simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) on solid fraction of the pretreated sample. At the same condition, when the reaction time increased to 40 minutes, $32.66g/{\ell}$ of fermentable sugars in the hydrolysate and $9.5g/{\ell}$ of ethanol was produced from the process of pretreatment and SSF. As a result of analyzing the fermentation inhibitors, such as acetic acid, 5-HMF, furfural and total phenolic compounds, as the reaction time increased, the amount of the fermentation inhibitors in the hydrolysate increased. Production of the fermentation inhibitors was more affected by initial concentration of oxalic acid rather than reaction time. $3.39{\sim}5.78g/{\ell}$ of acetic acid was produced by pretreatment with 0.013 g/g of oxalic acid, and the amount of furfural produced by decomposition of xylose was 2~3 times higher than the amount of 5-HMF produced by decomposition of glucose. All the hydrolysates contained more than $5g/{\ell}$ of total phenols considered as the degradation product of lignin. Therefore, by analyzing the amount of fermentable sugars and fermentation inhibitors in the hydrolysate, and producing ethanol from SSF of solid fraction of the pretreated sample, the biomass pretreated with 0.037 g/g of oxalic acid for 20 minutes at $160^{\circ}C$ can be expected to produce the most ethanol.

The catalytic oxidation of volatile organic compounds (methanol. acetaldehyde) has been characterized using the copper phthalocyanine catalyst in a fixed bed flow reactor under atmospheric pressure. The catalytic activity for pretreatment conditions was examined by this reaction system. The catalytic activity was ordered as follows: metal free-PC<Cu ($\alpha$)-PC<Cu ($\beta$)-PC The formaldehyde, carbon monoxide as a partial oxidation product of methanol and acetaldehyde over Cu ($\alpha$)-PC catalyst were detected and the conversions of methanol and acetaldehyde were accomplished above 95% over Cu ($\alpha$) -PC, Cu ($\beta$) - PC catalyst at 35$0^{\circ}C$. The pretreated metal free -PC, Cu($\alpha$)-PC, Cu($\beta$)-PC catalysts have been characterised by TGA, EA and XRD analysis. The catalytic activity pretreated with air and $CH_3$OH mixture (P-4) or air only (P-5) was very excellent. XRD and EA results showed that Cu($\alpha$)-PC, Cu($\beta$)-PC were destroyed an(1 new metal oxide such as CuO were formed.
