Characteristics of Oncolytic Adenovirus Replication and Gene Expression in Hypoxic Condition

  • Adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) vectors have been used for gene transfer to a wide variety of cell types in vivo and in vitro. The advantages of adenovirus vectors include the high titer of virus readily obtained in large scale preparations, their ability to transduce dividing and non dividing cells, and the high level of transgene expression. Since adenovirus vectors do not integrate in host cell DNA, there is a lack of insertional mutagenesis. However, many human tumor cells lack expression of the adenovirus 5 receptors and contain areas of hypoxia. In order to identify the pattern of replication and gene expression of oncolytic adenovirus in hypoxic condition, multiple different fiber modified Ads (Ad5F/S11, Ad5F/S35, Ad5F/K7, Ad5F/K21, and Ad5F/RGD) was compared. The replication of all fiber modified adenovirus was inhibited in hypoxic condition in HEK 293 cells, but gene expression has variety on different tumor cell lines and the level of coxackievirus and adenovirus receptor (CAR) expression. These data suggest that CAR expression pattern and hypoxic condition of tumor are considered for optimal oncolytic adenovirus application.

비성화된 모음의 음형대 특성 연구 (A Study about Formant Characteristics of Nasalized Vowels)

  • The purpose of this paper was to analyze the effects of nasalization on vowels. Ten males and 7 females produced 5 vowels (/a/, /e/, /i/, /o/, /u/) in conditions: normal and nasalized. In this study we compared normal vowels' formant with nasalized vowels' and examined nasal-formant in the nasalized vowels. The results was as follows: First, there was a significant difference between normal vowels and nasalized in terms of F1 and F2. Second, the nasal formants were observed in nasalized vowels more frequently in females than males. Third, N1 appeared to influence F1 of vowels whereas N2 seemed to have an impact on F2 and/or F3.

회귀분석을 이용한 반월 공단배수의 생태독성 원인물질 조사 (Investigation of Eco-toxicological Substances in Banwol Industrial Drainages using the Regression Analysis)

  • In this study, water quality and acute toxicity using Daphnia magna were analyzed to investigate the eco-toxicological substances identified as statistical analysis and propose a management plan for the effluent of Banwol industrial complex, Ansan, Gyeonggi-do. Cu, Zn, F, Mn concentrations in the effluent far exceeded the US standards to protect the aquatic ecosystem and eco-toxicity values were 5 ~ 22 TU. However, concentrations of heavy metals significantly decreased after Ansan public wastewater treatment plant operating a biological treatment and toxicity values were 0 TU. Zn, Cr, F and Cu in the effluent showed very strong and strong positive correlations with eco-toxicity values, respectively. Regression analysis resulted in an equation between toxicity and Zn, TU = $4.884{\times}Zn$ (mg/L) -0.391 showing Zn concentration should be managed less than 0.285 mg/L to keep the eco-toxicity (TU) less than 1.

PCA를 이용한 하폐수처리시설 운전상태진단 (Operation diagnostic based on PCA for wastewater treatment)

  • 축산폐수는 축사가 대부분 상수원보다 상류지역에 산재하고 있어 이를 효과적으로 관리하기 어려우나, 연속 회분식 반응기(Sequencing Batch Reactor, SBR)는 장치가 간단하고 경제성이 우수하여 축산폐수처리에서 효율적으로 적용될 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 DO(Dissolved Oxygen)과 ORP(Oxidation-Reduction Potential)을 이용하여 지식기반 고장진단 시스템을 제안하였다. 실시간으로 얻어진 ORP, DO값들을 전처리하여, [ORP], [DO]외에 [ORP DO]합성data와 ORP, DO의 특징벡터의 합에서 얻어진 fusion data의 총 4개의 data set을 이용하여 각각에 대한 진단과 분류성능을 검토하였다. 이 값을 이용하여 FCM (fuzzy C-mean) 클러스터링 한 후, K-PCA과 LDA로 차원축소시켜 특징벡터를 추출하였다. 그리고 Hamming distance로 test data와 특징벡터의 거리를 계산하여 각 class를 F1에서 F8까지 분류하였다. 그 결과 데이터를 그대로 이용하는 것 보다 차분데이터형태로 이용하는 것이 우수했으며 그 중 fusion 데이터의 결과가 다른 것들보다 향상된 결과를 보였다. 그리고 K-PCA와 LDA를 결합한 결과가 다른 방법에 비해 우수한 결과를 보였으며 fusion method를 이용한 최고인식율은 98.02%를 나타내었다.

New record of an alien plant, Ipomoea cristulata (Convolvulaceae) in Korea

  • Ipomoea cristulata Hallier f. (Convolvulaceae), native to the desert regions of the central USA to Mexico, was newly found in Gojeong-ri, Deokgwa-myeon, Namwon-si, Jeollabuk-do. This species can be distinguished from I. coccinea by leaves with 3-5 lobes, hirsute distributed adaxially, and corolla entirely red or orange-red. Its Korean name is 'Nabi-ip-yu-hong-cho' based on its butterfly-shaped leaves. We provide a detailed description, photographs, habitat details, and a taxonomic key to related taxa.

파킨슨병 환자의 말 명료도와 모음 공간 특성 (Characteristics of Speech Intelligibility and the Vowel Space in Patients with Parkinson's disease)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of speech intelligibility of spontaneous speech and the vowel space parameters in patients with Parkinson's disease. Ten PD patients (M=5, F=5) and a corresponding control group of ten normal adults participated in this study. Firstly, subjects were asked to tell a story about their hometown and youth in order to analyze speech intelligibility. Secondly, the subjects were also asked to repeat four vowels (/a/, /i/, /u/, /e/) five times in order to compare their vowel spaces. The results were as follows: (1) the speech intelligibility of the PD group was lower than that of the control group. (2) Four parameters including vowel area, vowel articulatory index, formant centralization ratio, F2i/F1u ratio were significantly different in each group. For instance, vowel area and F2 ratio were wider and higher, respectively. As a result, a decrease in speech intelligibility of patients with PD is likely to show different types of errors from the normal group. The results of this research are meaningful in a sense that they could provide the objective standard of speech intelligibility and vowel space parameters.

파킨슨 환자의 클리어 스피치 전후 음향학적 공기역학적 특성 (An aerodynamic and acoustic characteristics of Clear Speech in patients with Parkinson's disease)

  • An increase in speech intelligibility has been found in Clear Speech compared to conversational speech. Clear Speech is defined by decreased articulation rates and increased frequency and length of pauses. The objective of the present study was to investigate improvement in immediate speech intelligibility in 10 patients with Parkinson's disease (age range: 46 to 75 years) using Clear Speech. This experiment has been performed using the Phonatory Aerodynamic System 6600 after the participants read the first sentence of a Sanchaek passage and the "List for Adults 1" in the Sentence Recognition Test (SRT) using casual speech and Clear Speech. Acoustic and aerodynamic parameters that affect speech intelligibility were measured, including mean F0, F0 range, intensity, speaking rate, mean airflow rate, and respiratory rate. In the Sanchaek passage, use of Clear Speech resulted in significant differences in mean F0, F0 range, speaking rate, and respiratory rate, compared with the use of casual speech. In the SRT list, significant differences were seen in mean F0, F0 range, and speaking rate. Based on these findings, it is claimed that speech intelligibility can be affected by adjusting breathing and tone in Clear Speech. Future studies should identify the benefits of Clear Speech through auditory-perceptual studies and evaluate programs that use Clear Speech to increase intelligibility.

Characteristics and Gas Barrier Properties of Mg-Zn-F Films in Various Ratio of $MgF_2$ to Zn

  • The magnesium fluoride ($MgF_2$) has very higher optical transmission than oxide or nitride material applied for gas barrier, so we manufactured Mg-Zn-F films with Mg-Zn-F target mixed in the various ratio of $MgF_2$ to Zn and characterized films' properties. Zn is used to increase packing density of barrier film. Thickness and optical transmission of Mg-Zn-F are 200 nm and over 90 %, respectively. The result of water vapor transmission rate at 38, RH 90 ~ 100% of the Mg-Zn-F film deposited with 4 : 6 ($MgF_2$ : Zn) ratio target reached below $1{\times}10^{-3}g$/($m^2{\cdot}day$), measuring limit of instrument.

Physicochemical Properties of Indoor Particulate Matter Collected on Subway Platforms in Japan

  • This study was aimed to thoroughly estimate the characteristics of indoor particulate matter (PM) collected on subway platforms by the cooperative approach of semi-bulk and single particle analyses. The size-resolved PM and its number concentration were measured on the platform in a heavily traveled subway station in Fukuoka, Japan. Particle Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) and micro-PIXE techniques were applied to the chemical analyses of semi-bulk and single particle, respectively. There was the close resemblance of timely fluctuation between PM number concentration and train service on the third basement floor (B3F) platform compared to the second basement floor (B2F) and its maximum level was marked in rush hour. Higher number counts in large particles ($>1{\mu}m$) and lower number counts in fine particles ($<1{\mu}m$) were shown on the platform compared to an above ground. PM2.5 accounted for 58.2% and 38.2 % of TSP on B3F and on B2F, respectively. The elements that were ranked at high concentration in size-resolved semi-bulk PM were Fe, Si, Ca, S, and Na. The major elements tending to have more elevated levels on B3F than B2F were Fe (4.4 times), Ca (17.3 times), and Si (46.4 times). Although concentrations were very low, Cr ($11.9ng\;m^{-3}$ on B3F, $2.4ng\;m^{-3}$ on B2F), Mn ($3.4ng\;m^{-3}$ on B3F, $0.9ng\;m^{-3}$ on B2F), and Pb ($0.6ng\;m^{-3}$ on B3F, $1.6ng\;m^{-3}$ on B2F) were detected from PM2.5. Individual PM was nearly all enriched in Fe with Si and Ca. Classifying and source profiling of the individual particles by elemental maps and particle morphology were tried and particles were presumably divided into four groups (i.e., train/rail friction, train-rail sparking, ballast/abrasive, and cement).

영도 절영산에서의 식물 집단 구조 (Plant Population Structure of Mt Jeolyoung in Young-do of Busan)

  • 영도 절영산과 단절된 산림지 3곳에 대한 식물종, 목본류의 다양성 양상을 조사하기 위해 18 plot(12개 50$\times$50m plot와 6곳 10$\times$100 m plots)를 설정하였다. 50${\times}$50m plots에 는 총 68종이 동정되고 목본류의 개체는 1562개였다. 최소 유의성 차이(LSD)에서 A지점(절영산)이 B지점(낮은 구릉지역)보다 높았다. Shannon-wiener의 다양성 지수에서 세 지역간 유의한 차이가 있었다(F=4.12, p<0.05). 곰솔-갈참나무군락이 대부분 지역에서 우점하였다. 절영산과 태종대 지역에서 곰솔군락이 다른 방향보다 NE방향에 잘 분포하였다. 천선과 나무-곰솔군락은 C지역의 남쪽 plot에 잘 분포하였다. 영도 절영산과 해안 지역에 대한 수목의 공간적 분포는 이질적이며 패치(patchy)구조를 나타내었다.
