  • An optimally designed six-phase induction motor (6PIM) is compared with an initial design induction motor having the same ratings. The Genetic Algorithm (GA) method is used for optimization and multi objective function is considered. Comparison of the optimum design with the initial design reveals that better performance can be obtained by a simple optimization method. Also in this paper each design of 6PIM, is simulated by MAXWELL_2D. The obtained simulation results are compared in order to find the most suitable solution for the specified application, considering the influence of each design upon the motor performance. Construction a 6PIM based on the information obtained from GA method has been done. Quality parameters of the designed motors, such as: efficiency, power losses and power factor measured and optimal design has been evaluated. Laboratory tests have proven the correctness of optimal design.

  • This paper deals with the magnet arrangement for vibration reduction and improvement in Starting Characteristic of Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor (PMLSM). Thrust, detent force, normal force and lateral force are generated in PMLSM. The detent force and lateral force cause the vibration of PMLSM. The detent force and the lateral force are analyzed by using 3-Dimensional Finite Element Method (3-D FEM). The efficiency and vibration of PMLSM are measured by experiment.

  • A turbine blade operates under high temperature, high pressure, and the loads have the characteristics that the amplitudes change. Therefore, it is important to perform a stress analysis considering thermal and pressure loads. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of these loads on gas turbine blade through thermal stress analysis. The analysis results shows that pressure in gas fluid flow around blade is high in leading edge part, Gas temperature is connections with pressure of flow around blade. The distribution of stress from blade is appearing as is different at suction side and pressure side.

  • This paper covers finite element simulations to evaluate the terminal crimping process of automobile electrical connector. Crimping is a classical technology process to ensure the electrical and the mechanical link between a wire and a terminal. Numerical modeling of the process is helpful to choose and to optimize the dimensions of the crimping part of the connector. In this paper, we discuss a 2D simulation of the crimping process, using explicit finite element methods (ABAQUS/Explicit) and we compare the results with experimental data from the industrial process of crimping (crimping height, crimping width and compressibility). The explicit method is preferred for the modeling of multi-contact problems, in spite of the quasi-static process of crimping. As compared with CAE analysis, a performance improvement makes certain of the truth of the matter.

  • In order to characterize the macroscopic mechanical response of ultra-thin (0.1 mm thick) ferritic stainless steel sheet at various loading paths, a crystal plasticity finite element method (CP-FEM) was introduced. The accuracy of the prediction results was validated by comparing with the experimental data. Based on the results, the forming limit diagram (FLD) was predicted using a modified Marchinicak-Kuczinski model coupled to a non-quadratic anisotropic yield function, namely, Yld2000-2d. The predicted FLD was found to be in good agreement with the experimental data.

  • Turbulent flow characteristics of a lean-burn engine were qualitatively studied in order to obtain the optimum design parameters. 3-D lean-burn model engine was made up of an intake port, an intake valve and a cylinder. Computational grids were generated using PATRAN which was a FEM grid-generation software and numerical calculations were performed using STAR-CD. The predicted results showed that swirl and tumble structures were significantly changed by the valve lifts.

  • The critical current of the HTS(High Temperature Superconductor) tape is governed by cooling temperature, magnetic field and its angle to HTS tape originated from its geometrical structure. At the HTS coil design stage, the critical current of the coil is calculated by considering the Ic-B characteristics of the 2G tape and the operating current is determined based on the critical current. The operating current and the structure of the 5 T coil are suggested through the FEM (Finite Elements Method) analysis and calculation. As a part of our on-going research on a 20 T LTS/HTS magnet, we have designed and constructed a 5 T HTS insert coil and tested it in liquid helium temperature.

  • The most important factor of the traffic accident on the wet road is a tire slip caused by hydroplaning. Meanwhile, hydroplaning characteristics are influenced very greatly by the vehicle velocity, so it is very important to reveal the relation between hydroplaning and the vehicle velocity. Since the experiment study is considerably limited, recently the numerical simulation using finite element method(FEM) and finite volume method(FVM) is widely adopted. In this paper, the effect of the vehicle velocity on the hydroplaning characteristics is investigated through the hydroplaning analysis using MSC/Dytran.

  • The objective of this study is to develop the practical program which can check the constructible possibility of prestressed concrete box girder bridges for design. Checking constructible possibility is defined as checking the interference of each elements in a PSC box girder bridge and computing the distances of each elements. To check the constructible possibility of a PSC box girder bride, bridge must be modelled using solid in three dimension. By using a 3 dimensional solid modeling system, engineers can get the photo realistic 3D viewing images of the bridge and produce FEM analytic model of it. Users can manipulate their drawings easier and take off quantity of the whole structure and its elements as well as check the constructible possibility of their PSC box girder bridges.

  • Linear pulse motor have many advantages. (simple control circuit, high stiffness characteristics, etc.) So, it may replace the solenoid as the valve driving device without difficulty and give full play to control the valve accurately. In this paper, we will analyze the LPM for designed proportional control valve and will conform the complex magnetic circuits to be composed LF and TF path.
