Computerized Human Body Modeling and Work Motion-capturing in a 3-D Virtual Clothing Simulation System for Painting Work Clothes Development

  • By studying 3-D virtual human modeling, motion-capturing and clothing simulation for easier and safer work clothes development, this research aimed (1) to categorize heavy manufacturing work motions; (2) to generate a 3-D virtual male model and establish painting work motions within a 3-D virtual clothing simulation system through computerized body scanning and motion-capturing; and finally (3) to suggest simulated clothing images of painting work clothes developed based on virtual male avatar body measurements by implementing the work motions defined in the 3-D virtual clothing simulation system. For this, a male subject's body was 3-D scanned and also directly measured. The procedures to edit a 3-D virtual model required the total body shape to be 3-D scanned into a digital format, which was revised using 3-D Studio MAX and Maya rendering tools. In addition, heavy industry workers' work motions were observed and recorded by video camera at manufacturing sites and analyzed to categorize the painting work motions. This analysis resulted in 4 categories of motions: standing, bending, kneeling and walking. Besides, each work motion category was divided into more detailed motions according to sub-work posture factors: arm angle, arm direction, elbow bending angle, waist bending angle, waist bending direction and knee bending angle. Finally, the implementation of the painting work motions within the 3-D clothing simulation system presented the virtual painting work clothes images simulated in a dynamic mode.

  • This research was analyzed regarding comparing features of expressions between clothes in movie, , and cyber clothes that were made by Marvelous Designer2 which is a design CAD. This research was studied to experiment an expressing possibility of clothes simulation software which was developed currently. Therefore, we picked clothes that are good at movement and detail in the movie. The dress theory of the renaissance which is the period background of movie, was considered and studied as pattern, silhouette, material, color, detail and animation. The movie's dresses are made with 3D virtual and compared so 3D virtual clothes's benefits and weaknesses can be analyzed. As a result, we found that 3D virtual dress can show the real movie's feature accordingly with current developed IT standard. This will assist a development in fashion industry and become a new indicator for 3D movie clothing.

가상의상 모델링 및 착장 소프트웨어를 위한 가이드라인 (Guidelines for Virtual Clothes Modeling and Draping Software - Based on the Analysis of Maya Cloth -)

  • This paper suggests guidelines for virtual clothes modeling and draping software suitable for clothes designers. We first analyze Maya Cloth, which is widely used in game and animation fields, and which has been adopted by Pad System as a 3D cloth draping system. We then discuss what functions and procedures would improve Maya Cloth to assist designers in being able to create the clothes they have conceptualized. While Maya Cloth has many good functions and features forvirtual cloth modeling and draping, it treats input 2D patterns as approximat and it creates 3D clothes by considering other factors such as the 3D body model. As a result, it is hard for clothes designers to control the shape of the 3D clothes by changing 2D patterns. Furthermore, Maya Cloth does not handle seamlines satisfactorily. We suggest that the following new features should be added to Maya Cloth : respecting the input 2D patterns, handling seamlines, and controlling the shape of the clothes in 3D space.

  • It is essential to consider the heavy industrial working environment factors which are regarded as harmful to workers' health and safety and suitable work motion factors for the workers' motion while developing the work clothes for painting workers in the machinery and shipbuilding industries. This study suggests the use of 3D virtual clothing simulations as a solution to protect the human body from hazardous working conditions accompanying the development of painting work clothes and assessing the work motion performance associated with the comfort while workers wear them during the work clothes. The initial aim of the study is to examine a male avatar to run work motions simultaneously within a 3D virtual clothing simulator, secondly, to present the simulation images of coverall type men's painting work clothes with the application of two experimental painting work motions and one control motion to the avatar, and finally, to present the distance analysis images of the painting work clothes and the avatar body and air gap rates through the analysis of cross-sections of the avatar body while wearing the coverall work clothes according to the work motions. The results showed that the distance degree of painting work clothes to the avatar body for each part of the human body when performing painting work motions. Moreover, 3D virtual clothing simulations enabled the creation of a male model avatar to run painting work motions together and the painting work clothes developed were found to be suitable for the painting work motions.

3D 가상의상 소프트웨어를 활용한 가족예복 디자인 개발 (The Design Development of Family Formal Clothes Using 3D Virtual Clothing Software)

  • Modern family culture manifests various different social phenomenon due to shifts caused by increased societal response to industrialization in our country. It is noted that as our lifestyle patterns have shifted from being work-oriented to family-oriented, by focusing on the trend where there is an increase in families enjoying hobby and leisure activities together and where families go shopping together, I attempted to propose various different family-look' designs. In this research study we designed and planned family normal clothes designs that are required and desired for family gatherings and family events, and these designed were produced using 3D virtual clothing design software technology. The research method used the formative features of natural plants and textiles containing a symbolic motif as an element of design, and the creation of family formal clothes were designed and planned based on the method. The development of family formal clothes designs was implemented using CLO 3D virtual clothing design software. Because utilizing 3D virtual clothing design software enables prototyping various types of designs, silhouettes, fabrics and textiles, and color schemes etc. in a short amount of time, it was possible to utilize an advantage from using the software as leveraged to propose designs with a strong symbolic motif and symbolism . Also, by confirming and examining the strengths and weaknesses of the design process when using CLO 3D, It can improve the utilization of IT technologies, and this study aims to provide that efficiency.

3 시스템의 맞춤복 시장 적용가능성에 관한 연구 - 중년여성을 대상으로 - (A Study on Applicability of Custom-Tailored Clothing of 3D Virtual Clothing System - Focused on Middle-Aged Women -)

  • This study aims to examine for efficient production methods of custom-tailored clothing and application of 3D virtual clothing system in custom-tailored clothing market, by producing and analyzing both real clothing and 3D virtual clothing. For this study, a middle-aged woman is selected as the subject figure and one-piece is selected as the experimental clothes item. In real clothing, I conducted the wearing evaluation for experts and the subject figure. And In the virtual clothing, I conducted the wearing evaluation with i-Designer using 3D virtual clothing on simulation program. There are some differences between the data from body scanning and the real body size. In the custom-tailored clothing market in which the fitness is important, the research which measures the more exact data is needed. And in the case of complicate design, the functions which measure the activity and the fitness variously and correct the parts of curves are needed. This study experiments the availability of application of 3D Virtual Clothing System in custom-tailored clothing market by selecting one-piece as the experimental clothes item. So the follow-up studies for the other designs and fabrics are needed. Also, if the studies for checking the clothes pressure, the amount of composure, the space between skin and clothing when the virtual model wearing clothes is walking or shaking his arms are proceeding, then 3D virtual clothing System is applicable in custom-tailored clothing market. But there are some restrictions and lack of education in virtual clothing System yet, and it makes hard for workers in clothing market to use it in real production. However, 3D virtual clothing System will be practical in real market if there would be more research on its usability and practicality, and workers in clothing market can be easily educated on techniques of 3D virtual clothing system.

  • 의류 패션산업에서 IT화가 진행되고 있으며 그 중 패션쇼는 디지털 시대의 흐름에 발맞추어 빠르게 변화하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 가상의상을 제작하여 실제의상과 유사하게 재현이 가능한지를 살펴보고, 이를 통하여 디지털 패션쇼를 구현한다. 이때 기존의 패션쇼 보다 아이디어를 창의적으로 표현 할 수 있는지, 효율성 및 보완해야 할 부분은 무엇인지 등 실제 사례 개발 연구를 통해 제시하였다. 그 결과 가상 의상은 매우 유사하다는 평을 받았으며, 실제 패션쇼에서는 재현하기 어려운 연출이 본 연구를 통해 보다 창의적이고 용이한 방법으로 실현 가능하였다. 미래에 3D 가상의상을 실제 패션산업에 도입한다면 유통 및 산업의 혁신을 통해 새로운 콘텐츠 창출이 가능할 것이다.

메타버스를 위한 가상 휴먼의 3차원 의상 모델링 (3D Clothes Modeling of Virtual Human for Metaverse)

  • 본 논문은 고화질 2차원 전신 영상을 입력으로 받아 영상 속 인물이 입고 있는 의상 패턴과 체형 정보를 추정한 후, 이를 반영한 3차원 가상 휴먼의 생성 기법을 제안한다. 의상의 패턴을 얻기 위해서 Cascade Mask R-CNN을 이용하여 의상 분할을 진행한다. 이후 Pix2Pix로 경계를 블러 및 배경색을 추정하고, UV-Map 기반으로 변환하여 3차원 의상 메쉬의 UV-Map을 얻을 수 있다. 또한, SMPL-X를 이용하여 체형 정보를 얻고 이를 기반으로 의상과 신체의 기본 메쉬를 변형한다. 앞서 얻은 의상 UV-Map, 체형이 반영된 의상과 신체의 메쉬를 이용해 최근 각광받고 있는 게임 엔진인 언리얼 엔진에서 렌더링하여 최종적으로 사용자가 그의 외형이 반영된 3차원 가상 휴먼의 애니메이션을 볼 수 있도록 한다.

  • 오늘날 인터넷의 보급으로 인해 우리의 일상생활에 많은 변화가 이루어졌다. 그 중 인터넷 패션 쇼핑몰에 대한 인식은 나날이 증대되고 있으며, 인터넷 패션 마케팅 시스템을 보다 정확히 이해하고, 가상공간에서 마케팅 활동을 강화하기 위해서는 보다 과학적이고 체계적인 연구가 필요하게 되었다. 하지만 직접 입어보는 특수한 형식을 대체할 수 없는 것이 패션몰의 큰 단점이며 이를 대체할 시스템이 갖추어지지 않은 것이 현 실정이다. 따라서 다양한 체형을 감안하여 3D아바타에게 온라인 소비자의 정보를 주입한 가상 피팅 모델을 만들고, 여러 가지 옷들과 악세사리 및 장소(배경)까지 선택해 볼 수 있는 그런 완전한 가상 패션 쇼핑몰을 구축한 후, 인터넷 패션 쇼핑몰을 이용하는 소비자에게 온라인 매장에서 옷을 입혀 온라인의 쇼핑환경을 구축하는 것은 소비자의 신뢰를 확보할 수 있는 유일한 대안이다. 본 논문에서는 PC카메라를 이용하여 영상을 입력받고 경계선을 추출하여 가상 피팅 모델에게 옷을 입히는 가상 피팅 시스템을 구축하였다.

3D 의상 모델링소프트웨어를 이용한 가상모델의 착의 평가 연구 - 퀄로스(QUALOTH)프로그램을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Fitness Evaluation of Virtual Model Using 3D Clothes Modeling Software - Focused on Qualoth Program -)

  • This study was attempted to investigate the possibilities of fitness evaluation of virtual model using 3D clothes modeling software. For the purpose, two one-piece dresses were made with two kinds of patterns using Qualoth program, and then each dress was fitted to a real model and a virtual model, and the results were compared and discussed. The result of this study was as follows. First, the fitness evaluation of real model showed a significant difference only at a little difference in figures (1-2.5cm) of the pattern, while any significant difference in appearance was not found in case of a virtual model fitted a dress made out of a pattern with the same difference in figures. Second, items to evaluate a difference in patterns using 3D clothes modeling software were shoulder line, the distance between shoulder points, armhole line, ease of armscye depth, and overall appearance. Because all the items fall under design lines which make up outer lines of a cloth, it can be said that the Qualoth program is good for representing design, rather than exposing a small difference in patterns.
