Robust extraction of 3D facial features and global motion information from 2D image sequence for the MPEG-4 SNHC face model encoding is described. The facial regions are detected from image sequence using multi-modal fusion technique that combines range, color and motion information. 23 facial features among the MPEG-4 FDP (Face Definition Parameters) are extracted automatically inside the facial region using color transform (GSCD, BWCD) and morphological processing. The extracted facial features are used to recover the 3D shape and global motion of the object using paraperspective camera model and SVD (Singular Value Decomposition) factorization method. A 3D synthetic object is designed and tested to show the performance of proposed algorithm. The recovered 3D motion information is transformed into global motion parameters of FAP (Face Animation Parameters) of the MPEG-4 to synchronize a generic face model with a real face.
Fashion industry has tried to adopt the virtual garment technology to reduce the time and effort spent on sample creation. For garment manufacturers to adopt the virtual garment technology as an alternative to sample creation, 3D avatars that meet the needs of each brand should be developed. Virtual garment softwares that are available in the market provide avatars with standardized body models and allow to modify the size by manually entering size specifications. This study proposed a methodology to develop size specifications for 3D avatars as well as brand-customized production sizes. For this, a man's fashion brand which is using virtual garment technology is selected. And the Size Korea database is used to develop size specification based on the customers' body shape. This study developed regression equations on body size specifications, which in turn proposed a regression model to proportionately change size specifications of 3D fitting-models. Based on the each body size calculated by the regression model, a standard model is created, and the skeleton-skin algorithm is applied to the regression model to obtain the results of size changes. Then, the 3D model sizes are tested for size changes as well as measured, which verifies that the regression model reflects body size changes.

In this paper, we present realistic 3D head modeling and facial expression systems. For 3D head modeling, we perform generic model fitting to make individual head shape and texture mapping. To calculate the deformation function in the generic model fitting, we determine correspondence between individual heads and the generic model. Then, we reconstruct the feature points to 3D with simultaneously captured images from calibrated stereo camera. For texture mapping, we project the fitted generic model to image and map the texture in the predefined triangle mesh to generic model. To prevent extracting the wrong texture, we propose a simple method using a modified interpolation function. For generating 3D facial expression, we use the vector muscle based algorithm. For more realistic facial expression, we add the deformation of the skin according to the jaw rotation to basic vector muscle model and apply mass spring model. Finally, several 3D facial expression results are shown at the end of the paper.

Recently, 3D related technology has become a hot topic for IT. 3D technologies such as 3DTV, Kinect and 3D printers are becoming more and more popular. According to the flow of the times, the goal of this study is that the general public is exposed to 3D technology easily. we have developed a web-based application program that enables 3D modeling of facial front and side photographs using a mobile phone. In order to realize 3D modeling, two photographs (front and side) are photographed with a mobile camera, and ASM (Active Shape Model) and skin binarization technique are used to extract facial height such as nose from facial and side photographs. Three-dimensional coordinates are generated using the face extracted from the front photograph and the face height obtained from the side photograph. Using the 3-D coordinates generated for the standard face model modeled with the standard face as a control point, the face becomes the face of the subject when the RBF (Radial Basis Function) interpolation method is used. Also, in order to cover the face with the modified face model, the control point found in the front photograph is mapped to the texture map coordinate to generate the texture image. Finally, the deformed face model is covered with a texture image, and the 3D modeled image is displayed to the user.
Although the finite element method is a good tool to analyze skin-pass rolling, it is hard to be applied in the field because of its long calculation time. In the current study, simple numerical models were developed for the prediction of roll force and residual stress profiles along the strip width. These models are based on finite element analysis and a coupled solution of Sims’ equation and Hitchcock’s formula. The results indicate that plastic strains can be represented as in simple equations of the deformed roll profile and the initial thickness of the strip.

Turbulent flow and heat transfer characteristics around staggered tube banks were studied using the 3-D Navier-Stokes equations and energy equation governing a steady incompressible flow, which were reformulated in a non-orthogonal coordinate system with cartesian velocity components and discretized by the finite volume method with a non-staggered variable arrangement. The predicted turbulent kinetic energy using RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ model was lower than that of standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model but showed same result for mean flow field quantities. The prediction of the skin friction coefficient using RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ model showed better trend with experimental data than standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model result. The inclined flow showed higher velocity and skin friction coefficient than transverse flow because of extra strain rate ($\frac{{\partial}w}{{\partial}y}$). Also, this was why the inclined flow showed higher local heat transfer coefficient than the transverse flow.

The A detailed 3D finite-element analysis model of a human foot has been developed by converting CT scan images to 3D CAD models in order to analyze the distribution of plantar pressure. The 3D foot model includes all muscles, bones, and skin. On the basis of this model and the pressure distribution results, shoes for diabetes patients, which can make the plantar pressure distribution uniform, may be designed through finite-element contact analysis.

Various simulation applications for hair, clothing, and makeup of a 3D avatar can provide more useful information to users before they select a hairstyle, clothes, or cosmetics. To enhance their reality, the shapes, textures, and colors of the avatars should be similar to those found in the real world. For a more realistic 3D avatar color reproduction, this paper proposes a spectrum-based color reproduction algorithm and color management process with respect to the implementation of the algorithm. First, a makeup color reproduction model is estimated by analyzing the measured spectral reflectance of the skin samples before and after applying the makeup. To implement the model for a makeup simulation system, the color management process controls all color information of the 3D facial avatar during the 3D scanning, modeling, and rendering stages. During 3D scanning with a multi-camera system, spectrum-based camera calibration and characterization are performed to estimate the spectrum data. During the virtual makeup process, the spectrum data of the 3D facial avatar is modified based on the makeup color reproduction model. Finally, during 3D rendering, the estimated spectrum is converted into RGB data through gamut mapping and display characterization.

In this paper, a new equation of electromagnetic wave transmission matrix was proposed to calculate the reflected power and transmitted power for the multi-layered planar lossy structure. The applied human leg was modeled as a four-layer planar structure of skin, fat, muscle and bone. The complex dielectric constant to consider the loss of each of these layers was calculated using the 4-pole cole-cole model parameter. When electromagnetic waves were incident on the skin surface, total reflected and transmitted power, and human body loss were calculated for a frequency band of 0.1 to 20.0 GHz. And for various muscle thicknesses, the power reflected only from the outermost bone and re-radiated from the skin was calculated. It was confirmed that at the muscle thickness of 3.0 mm and the frequency of 4.6 GHz the return loss was -6.13 dB, which was 3.42 dB lower than the average value.

The skin's barrier structure is formed through the differentiation process of epidermal keratinocytes. It consists of corneocytes that are composed of keratin proteins and lipids that fill the spaces between them. During this process, the lipids such as phospholipid that made up the membrane of the basal layer cells of the epidermis are decomposed and replaced with newly synthesized components like ceramide. In this study, the effect of ginsenoside Rg3 components on the packing of the intercellular lipid structure of the skin barrier and the barrier function was confirmed. To confirm this, Rg3 components were treated during the differentiation process of 3D epidermal cells. The FT-IR and TEWL analysis on 3D epidermis showed an enhancement in the orthorhombic lipid packing and an improvement in barrier function. Additionally, in HaCaT cells, an increase in the expression of EVOL1 and EVOL4, which synthesize long-chain lipids, was detected, along with a decrease in CERS6, which synthesizes short-chain ceramide, and an increase in ACER6, which decomposes ceramide using phytosphingosine. This suggests the possibility that Rg3 affects lipid synthesis during the epidermal differentiation process, resulting in changes in barrier function.
