  • This is a case report about patient who had suffered from degenerative joint disease and treated by TMJ reconstruction with condylar prosthesis. The patient visited Korea University An-am hospital on 2007 complaining symptom about both TMJ pain, mouth opening limitation and open bite. From CT view there was severe resorption of both condylar head, therefore condylar prosthesis reconstruction was planned. After 3D RP model analysis for preparation, the patient was operated under general anesthesia for condylar prosthesis reconstruction and the symptom was alleviated. (increased mouth opening, reduced anterior open bite, full mouth occlusal contact achieved) Follow up was carried out monthly, but after this, patient refused follow up. After 26 months from the operation, the patient revisited for anterior open bite. In clinical evaluation, occlusal contact was remained, but anterior open bite was relapsed. From cephalometry analysis, severe resorption of glenoid fossa was found. Therefore, Autogenous disc reconstruction with alloplastic material was planned on August 2009. After another surgery, condylar prosthesis was regained its normal position in glenoid fossa, and occlusion was recovered properly.

  • Many researchers have employed cryopreserved amniotic membrane (CAM) in the treatment of a severely damaged cornea, using corneal epithelial cells cultured on an amniotic membrane (AM). In this study, two Teflon rings were made for culturing the cells on the LAM and CAM, and were then used to support the AM, which is referred to in this paper as an Ahn's AM supporter. The primary corneal epithelial cells were obtained from the limbus, using an ex-plantation method. The corneal epithelium could be reconstructed by culturing the thirdpassage corneal epithelial cells on the AM. A lyophilized amniotic membrane (LAM) has a higher rate of graft take, a longer shelf life, is easier to store, and safer, due to gamma irradiation, than a (AM. The corneal epithelium reconstructed on the LAM and (AM, supported by the twoTeflon rings, was similar to normal corneal epithelium. However, the advantages of the LAM over that of the (AM make the former more useful. The reconstruction model of the corneal epithelium, using AM, is considered as a good in vitro model for transplantation of cornel epithelium into patients with a severely damaged cornea.

  • This study addresses a method for 3D reconstruction using acoustic data with heterogeneous sonar devices: Forward-Looking Multibeam Sonar (FLMS) and Profiling Sonar (PS). The challenges in sonar image processing are perceptual ambiguity, the loss of elevation information, and low signal to noise ratio, which are caused by the ranging and intensity-based image generation mechanism of sonars. The conventional approaches utilize additional constraints such as Lambertian reflection and redundant data at various positions, but they are vulnerable to environmental conditions. Our approach is to use two sonars that have a complementary data type. Typically, the sonars provide reliable information in the horizontal but, the loss of elevation information degrades the quality of data in the vertical. To overcome the characteristic of sonar devices, we adopt the crossed installation in such a way that the PS is laid down on its side and mounted on the top of FLMS. From the installation, FLMS scans horizontal information and PS obtains a vertical profile of the front area of AUV. For the fusion of the two sonar data, we propose the probabilistic approach. A likelihood map using geometric constraints between two sonar devices is built and a monte-carlo experiment using a derived model is conducted to extract 3D points. To verify the proposed method, we conducted a simulation and field test. As a result, a consistent seabed map was obtained. This method can be utilized for 3D seabed mapping with an AUV.

  • In this paper, we propose an image-based method for modeling 3D objects with curved surfaces based on the NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines) representation. Starting from a few calibrated images, the user specifies the corresponding curves by means of an interactive user interface. Then, the 3D curves are reconstructed using stereo reconstruction. In order to fit the curves easily using the interactive user interface, NURBS curves and surfaces are employed. The proposed surface modeling techniques include surface building methods such as bilinear surfaces, ruled surfaces, generalized cylinders, and surfaces of revolution. In addition to these methods, we also propose various advanced surface modeling techniques, including skinned surfaces, swept surfaces, and boundary patches. Based on these surface modeling techniques, it is possible to build various types of 3D shape models with textured curved surfaces without much effort. Also, it is possible to reconstruct more realistic surfaces by using proposed view-dependent texture acquisition algorithm. Constructed 3D shape model with curves and curved surfaces can be exported in VRML format, making it possible to be used in different 3D graphics softwares.

  • The application of CT with basis on 3 dimensional-reconstruction is getting more widely practiced. With the data obtained from cone-beam computed tomography(CBCT), not only the diagnosis of the patient with skeletal abnormality but also the virtual simulation of the orthognathic surgery were performed and its application would be popular in orthodontic field. We reported a case, a 19-year old man who was diagnosed mandibular prognathism and required orthognatic surgery. In this case, the virtual orthognathic surgery was simulated and surgical wafer was fabricated by using CBCT data. That wafer was applied the actual orthognathic surgery. After preoperative orthodontic treatment, we prepared surgery as follows. : (l)Acquisition of 3D image data, (2)Reconstruction of 3-dimensional virtual model, (3)Virtual model surgery, (4)Extraction of stere-olithographic image, (5)Check-up for occlusal interference, (6)Fabrication of surgical stent by stereolithography. Bilateral sagittal split ramus osteotomy was operated and used stereolithographic surgical stent. 1 month later, we superimposed CBCT datas of virtual surgery and that of actual surgery, and then compared the result. CT data's application for othognathic surgery yielded satisfactory outcomes.

  • This paper deals with the geometric fitting algorithms for parametric curves and surfaces in 2-D/3-D space, which estimate the curve/surface parameters by minimizing the square sum of the shortest distances between the curve/surface and the given points. We identify three algorithmic approaches for solving the nonlinear problem of geometric fitting. As their general implementation we describe a new algorithm for geometric fitting of parametric curves and surfaces. The curve/surface parameters are estimated in terms of form, position, and rotation parameters. We test and evaluate the performances of the algorithms with fitting examples.

  • Unstandardized medical data collection and management are still being conducted manually, and studies are being conducted to classify CT data using deep learning to solve this problem. However, most studies are developing models based only on the axial plane, which is a basic CT slice. Because CT images depict only human structures unlike general images, reconstructing CT scans alone can provide richer physical features. This study seeks to find ways to achieve higher performance through various methods of converting CT scan to 2D as well as axial planes. The training used 1042 CT scans from five body parts and collected 179 test sets and 448 with external datasets for model evaluation. To develop a deep learning model, we used InceptionResNetV2 pre-trained with ImageNet as a backbone and re-trained the entire layer of the model. As a result of the experiment, the reconstruction data model achieved 99.33% in body part classification, 1.12% higher than the axial model, and the axial model was higher only in brain and neck in contrast classification. In conclusion, it was possible to achieve more accurate performance when learning with data that shows better anatomical features than when trained with axial slice alone.

  • Recently, there are many studies related aerial mapping project and 3 dimensional shape and model reconstruction using UAV(unmanned aerial vehicle) system and images. In this study, we create 3D reconstruction point data using image matching technology of the UAV overlap images, detect shape change of structure and perform accuracy assessment of area($m^2$) and volume($m^3$) value. First, we build the test structure model data and capturing its images of shape change Before and After. Second, for post-processing the Before dataset is convert the form of raster format image to ensure the compare with all 3D point clouds of the After dataset. The result shows high accuracy in the shape change of more than 30 centimeters, but less is still it becomes difficult to apply because of image matching technology has its own limits. But proposed methodology seems very useful to detect illegal any structures and the quantitative analysis of the structure's a certain amount of damage and management.

  • LiDAR(Light Detection and Ranging) is considered to be a very accurate and useful tool for detection and reconstruction of ground objects. LiDAR data has information about both intensity and x,y,z position of the ground objects. LiDAR data can be collected from both first and last-return, which are called multi-return, with up to 5 different returns simultaneously. In this paper, an approach to reconstruct buildings in urban area using LiDAR multi-return data is presented. The reconstructed buildings are combined with DEM(Digital Elevation Model) produced from DSM(Digital Surface Model) in given area to implement 3D modeling. As a result, it is shown that buildings in urban area can be reconstructed and classified by the integration of the multi-return and intensity data of LiDAR.
