The two-photon stereolithography (TPS) process is a promising technique for the fabrication of real three-dimensional (3D) nano/micro-structures via application of a femto-second laser, In TPS, when a near-infrared ultrashort-pulsed laser is closely focused onto a confined volume of photocurable resin, only the local area at the center of the focus is cured. Therefore, real 3D microstructures with resolution under the diffraction limit can be fabricated through a layer-by-layer accumulative technique, This process provides opportunities to develop neo-conceptive nano/micro devices in IT/BT industries, However, a number of issues, including development of effective fabrication methods, highly sensitive and functional materials, and neo-conceptive devices using TPS, must be addressed for the realization of industrial application of TPS. In this review article, we discuss our efforts related to TPS: effective fabrication methods, diverse two-photon curable materials for high functional devices, and applications.

A comparative study of microwave and conventional sintering of lead-free $Bi_{1/2}(Na_{0.82}K_{0.18})_{1/2}TiO_3-BaZrO_3-CuO$ ceramics is presented. It was found that microwave sintering (MWS) can be successfully applied to the fabrication of large strain Bi-perovskite with electric field-induced strains comparable to those obtained with conventional sintering (CFS). Although MWS resulted in smaller grained microstructures than CFS, the ferroelectric properties were stronger in MWS-derived specimens than in the CFS-derived ones. The piezoelectric strain constant $d_{33}{^*}$ of the CFS-derived specimens reached a maximum value of 372 pm/V after sintering at $1100^{\circ}C$, whereas that of MWS-derived specimens peaked at $950^{\circ}C$ with a $d_{33}{^*}$ value of 324 pm/V.

A nano-stereolithouaphy (NSL) apparatus has been developed for fabrication of microstructures with the resolution of 150 nanometers. In the NSL process, a complicated 3D structure can be fabricated by building layer by layer, so it does not require any sacrificial layer or any supporting structure. A laminated layer was fabricated by means of solidifying liquid-state monomers using two-photon absorption (TPA) which was induced by a femtosecond laser. When the fabrication of a 3D laminated structure was finished, unsolidified liquid-stage resins were removed to develop the fabricated structure by dropping several droplets of solvent, then the polymerized structure was only left on the glass substrate. A microstructure is fabricated by vector scanning method to save the fabrication time. The shell thickness of a structure is very thin within 200 nm, when it is fabricated by a single contour scanning (SCS) path. So, a fabricated structure can be deformed easily in the developing process. In this work, a double contour scanning (DCS) method was proposed to reinforce the strength of a shell typed structure, and a microcup was fabricated to show the usefulness of the developed NSL system and the DCS method.
The microstructures and time-relationship between deformation and growth of metamorphic minerals(metamorphism) of the Paleozoic metasedimentary rocks(Joseon Supergroup and Pyeongan Group) in the Janggunbong area at the central-south part in the North Sobaegsan Massif, Korea, have been analyzed in this paper. The first phase metamorphism (low-pressure type metamorphism), recognized as the crystallization of stack-type chloritoid and biotite and augen-type old andalusite, occurred under non-deformational condition before D1 deformation related to the formation of an E-W trending isocline-synclinal fold(Janggunbong fold) and associated its axial plane S1 foliation, and produced regional mineralogical zoning of E-W trend in the Paleozoic rocks. The second phase metamorphism(medium-pressure type metamorphism), related to the growth of staurolite and garnet porphyroblasts with straight or curved internal foliations(Si), occurred under non-deformational condition after D1 deformation related to the formation of E-W trending thrusts modifying the Janggunbong fold and during D2 deformation related to the formation of E-W trending Yecheon shear zone. This metamorphism also produced regional mineralogical zoning of E-W trend. After D2 deformation occurred the intrusion of Jurassic Chunyang granite and associated its contact metamorphism which crystallized patchy-type young andalusite and prismatic- or fibrous-type sillimanite and coarse-grained garnet. This metamorphism occurred under non-deformational condition before D3 deformation related to the formation of S3 crenulation cleavage and during early phase of D3 deformation, and formed narrow mineralogical zoning of N-S trend near Chunyang granite.

It was possible to grow the $Al_{2}O_{3}$ based $Y_{3}A_{5}O_{12}(YAG),ZrO_{2}$ binary and ternary eutectic fibers using micro-pulling down method with a growing rate of 0.1~15 mm/min. While $Al_{2}O_{3}/ZrO_{2}$ showed cellular-lamellar structure, $Al_{2}O_{3}$/YAG and $Al_{2}O_{3}$/YAG/$ZrO_{2}$ternary eutectic fibers showed homogeneous Chinese script lamellar structures. The microstructures of $Al_{2}O_{3}/ZrO_{2}$ binary eutectic fibers changed with solidification rate from lamellar pattern to cellular structure. The interlamellar spacing agreed with the inverse-square-root dependance on pulling rate according to $\lambda$=$kv_p\;{-1/2}$. $Al_{2}O_{3}/ZrO_{2}$ binary eutectic fibers recorded the highest tensile strength of about 1560MPa at room temperature. $Al_2O_3/YAG/ZrO_2$ternary eutectic fiber showed excellent thermal stability to $1200^{\circ}C$ without significant decrease. The maximum strength of ternary eutectic fibers recorded were 1100MPa at $25^{\circ}C$ and 970MPa at $1200^{\circ}C$, respectively.

Segmentation of material phases through image analysis is essential for analyzing the microstructure of materials. Micro-CT images exhibit variations in grayscale values depending on the phases constituting the material. Phase segmentation is generally achieved by comparing the grayscale values in the images. In the case of waste concrete used as a recycled aggregate, it is challenging to distinguish between hydrated cement paste and natural aggregates, as these components exhibit similar grayscale values in micro-CT images. In this study, we propose a method for automatically separating the aggregates in concrete, in micro-CT images. Utilizing the Unet-VGG16 deep-learning network, we introduce a technique for segmenting the 2D aggregate images and stacking them to obtain 3D aggregate images. Image filtering is employed to separate aggregate particles from the selected 3D aggregate images. The performance of aggregate segmentation is validated through accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score assessments.

Galvanized Steel pipes have been widely used in industries and apartments, Unexpected early leakage has been found in an apartment. Tunneling corrosion or penetration was found in the water supply pipes. The chemical compositions of the pipes and properties of coating layer were evaluated. The pipes met the specification of KS D 3507. The cause of early failure was analyzed through the examination of macrostructures and microstructures, It was found that the pipes were failed by grooving corrosion, which resulted from galvanic corrosion of weld bead and matrix.

Micro-stereolithography technology has made it possible to fabricate any form of three-dimensional microstructures. It makes a 3D structure by dividing the shape into many slices of relevant thickness along horizontal surface, hardening each layer of slice with a laser, and stacking them up to a desired shape. Until now, however, the micro-stereolithography device was not designed systematically because the key factors governing the device were not considered. In this paper, we designed micro-stereolithography device using axiomatic approach. This paper contains an overview and an analysis of a new proposed system for development of micro-stereolithegraphy device, and detailed descriptions of the activities in this system. The newly designed system offers reduced machine size by minimizing of optical components and decoupled design matrix.
A Study has been made to investigate the effects of hot isostatic press(HIP) and post-HIP heat treatment on microstructures and mechanical properties of Ni-based single crystal superalloy CMSX-4. HIP process was found to heal and close micropores significantly, but did not affect the morphologies of. The elimination of as-cast micropores obtained by HIP process resulted in improved stress-rupture lives of Ni-base single crystal superalloy by 185%.
This study aims to investigate and compare the microstructures and room temperature tensile properties for AZ91 and ECO-AZ91 (AZ91+0.3%CaO) alloys in as-cast, T4 and T6 states, respectively. In as-cast state, the ECO-AZ91 alloy has finer microstructure than the AZ91 alloy. The AZ91 alloy exhibits greater ductility, while YS and UTS are inferior to those of the ECO-AZ91 alloy. After T4 treatment, most of ${\beta}$ compounds disappear in the AZ91 alloy, whereas ${\beta}$ phase is still observed in the ECO-AZ91 alloy due to its enhanced thermal stability, resulting in lower values of ductility and UTS. In T6 state, YS and UTS are better in the ECO-AZ91 alloy.
