Development of a Serious Game for Rehabilitation Training using 3D Depth Camera (3D depth 카메라를 이용한 재활훈련 기능성 게임 개발)

  • This paper proposes a serious game for rehabilitation training targeting old persons and patients for rehabilitation. The serious game suggested for rehabilitation training provides the whole body movement recognition-based interface using the 3D depth camera. When the user stands before the camera, it distinguishes the user from the background and then recognizes the user's whole body with 15 joints. By analyzing the changes of location and direction of each joint, it recognizes gestures needed for the game. The game contents consist of the games for upper limb training, lower limb training, whole body training, and balance training, and it was realized in both 2D and 3D games. The system suggested in this article works robustly even with the environmental changes using the 3D depth camera. Even with no separate device, the game recognizes the gestures only using the whole body movement, and this enhances the effect of rehabilitation.

  • Currently the mobile augmented reality does not require supplemental hardware, such as markers like specific images or depth cameras, in order to acquire 3D environment information. This allows for increased accessibility and usability for the general user, and also broadened scope of development. The market research enterprise Counterpoint Research predicted that the growth of the augmented reality market will reach 70 trillion Korean Won by 2021. Application developments are also progressing. Wargaming, the developer of the global game World of Tanks, has launched an application that uses AR core at the GDC 2018. Thus, we must prepare for the impending augmented reality market and acquire top class augmented reality technology using 3D environment. This paper outlines the development of a game using AR CORE SDK to acquire 3D environment and Unity 3D game engine to combine camera images and 3D graphics, which all comes together to construct a natural augmented reality.

  • This study examines the characteristics of screen image of 3D first-person shooting games and the newly created subjectivity by that image. 3D first-person shooting games create immersion by remediating the visual experience in the real world. The construction of subjective perspectives and comparatively clear interface are the important features of 3D first-person shooting games. The subjectivity created by this games' image is different from the subjectivity constructed by suture of film. Gamers have the dominant position of the subject of looking, gaming and narrating, but the narrating position is never permanent nor stable. Because the position has the limited sight of first-person, not the comprehensive sight of third-person.

  • The survival game is characterized by the ability to survive until the item is collected and the game is completed at the specified time, and the inventory function to store the item is the core of the game. Typical survival games include 'Don't Starve', 'H1Z1', and 'Lust'. The purpose of this paper is to design a 2.5D survival game that can be enjoyed by the smart device using Unity 3D engine. Because it is designed as a mobile platform, designing light inventory function using two lists rather than existing inventory function makes it easier to design than existing inventory and light design suitable for mobile. In general, it is characterized by designing a mobile game so that it does not depend on the place of the survival game.

  • The texture mapping used for the low-polygon models is one of the important workflows in the graphical representation of the 3D game. Only one hand painted texture is mapped on the surface of the 3D model and represents the color of the material and visual sense of touching by itself in that process. In the 3D game graphics, it is very important to visualize the textile sensation such as protruding and denting. It can be interpreted by the Gestalt Law to recognize a plane as a 3D sense of volume. Moreover, the concept of Affordance is necessary to recognize and perceive the textile sensation. It means visual recognizing of that relationship in the learning process. In this paper, The questionnaire survey targeting 3D game graphic designers is carried out. By analyzing the survey results, we suggest the important characteristic in the process of making hand painted texture.

  • In computer game, terrain model is applied a nice texture to render snowy mountains and valley. Terrain model in the game, it is important role that the character plays in space. Realistic depiction of the terrain model enhances the absorption of the game. Now many terrain models are made by using lots of terrain tools. In this paper, we does not use terrain modeling tool, we use only 3D max for making terrain model easily. 3D max provides a comprehensive 3D modeling, rendering, and compositing solution for games. In this paper we create terrain models by using 3D max, also we present how to use DirectX environment.

  • Game engine is generally used to reduce the risks in the game industry and provides various game editing tools. We analyse the requirements of the game editing tools to support the development of the 3D online action game. To analyse the requirements of the game editing tools, we compare the editing tools of the famous game engines. And then we design and implement the game editing tools. The concern on the game engine including the editing tools will be realize the high value of the game industry.

  • This paper aims to design Game Rendering Engine for real-time 3D online games. Previous, in order to raise rendering speed, BSP tree was used to partitioned space in Quake Game Engine. A game engine is required to develop for rapidly escalating of 3D online games in Korea. too. Currently rendering time is saved with the hardware accelerator which is working on the high-level computer system. On the other hand, a game engine is needed to save rendering time for users with low-level computer system. Therefore, a game rendering engine is which reduces rendering time by PVS look-up table using Empty space BSP tree designed and implemented in this paper
