Application of band-pass filtering techniques for improvement on 3D tomogram (3D Tomogram 향상을 위한 Band-pass Filtering 기술의 활용)

  • 초고전압 투과전자현미경으로부터 생산된 2D 이미지들에는 고전압(1250 kV)의 사용으로 인한 다양한 노이즈가 발생한다. 따라서 2D 이미지로부터 3D tomogram으로 재구성시 선명도 향상을 위하여 2D 이미지의 노이즈 제거 과정은 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 band-pass filtering 기법을 활용하여 노이즈를 상당 부분 제거하였고, 필터링된 이미지로부터 3D tomogram으로 재구성한 경우 band-pass filtering의 효과가 2D 이미지에서 뿐만아니라 3D tomogram으로 재구성 했을 경우에 어떤 대역의 filter radius를 적용해야 더욱 효과가 크다는 사실을 확인하였다.

  • MMORPG게임의 구현에 있어서 가장 큰 문제의 하나는 서버와 연결된 클라이언트들 사이의 동기화이다. 이를 위해서 MMORPG게임에서는 grid-based filtering을 적용하여 동기화 문제를 해결하고 있다. 그러나 MMORPG게임의 형태가 이인칭 관점 시점의 2D에서 일인칭 관점의 시점의 3D 게임으로 변함에 따라서 grid-based filtering으로 인한 동기화는 낭비적인 요소를 포함하게 되었다. 즉 일인칭 관점시점의 3D게임에서는 가까운 거리의 캐릭터 사이에도 주변 장애물의 영향으로 비 가시관계에 놓임에 따라서 동기화의 필요성이 없어지는 경우가 생기게 된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 일인칭 관점 게임의 3D MMORPG게임에서 컴파일 시 각 셀을 중심으로 가시성 테스트를 수행하여 가시영역내의 셀들만을 동기화 대상으로 지정한 후 게임 진행 시 현재 셀 속의 캐릭터들에게 동기화 대상으로 설정된 셀 속의 클라이언트들만을 동기화 시켜줌으로서 통신량을 줄여주는 방법을 제안한다.

Nonlinear Anisotropic Filtering with Considering of Various Structures in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (자기공명영상에서 다양한 구조들을 고려한 비선형 이방성 필터링)

  • In this paper, a nonlinear anisotropic filtering method without the loss of important information happened due to the repeated filtering in magnetic resonance images is proposed. First of all original images are divided into four regions, e.g., SPR(Strong Plain Region), EPR(Easy Plain Region), SER(Strong Edge Region), and EER(Easy Edge Region). An optimal template among multiple templates is selected, then the nonlinear anisotropic filtering based on the template is applied in pixel by pixel basis. In the proposed algorithm, filtering strength of EER containing important information is adjusted very weak and filtering strength for remaining regions is also adjusted according to the degree of the importance. In spite of repeated filtering, resulting images by the proposed method could still preserve anatomy information of original images without any degradation. Compared to the existing nonlinear anisotropic filtering, the proposed filtering method with multiple templates provides higher reliability for filtered images.

Optimization of block-matching and 3D filtering (BM3D) algorithm in brain SPECT imaging using fan beam collimator: Phantom study

  • The purpose of this study is to model and optimize the block-matching and 3D filtering (BM3D) algorithm and to evaluate its applicability in brain single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) images using a fan beam collimator. For quantitative evaluation of the noise level, the coefficient of variation (COV) and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) were used, and finally, a no-reference-based evaluation parameter was used for optimization of the BM3D algorithm in the brain SPECT images. As a result, optimized results were derived when the sigma values of the BM3D algorithm were 0.15, 0.2, and 0.25 in brain SPECT images acquired for 5, 10, and 15 s, respectively. In addition, when the sigma value of the optimized BM3D algorithm was applied, superior results were obtained compared with conventional filtering methods. In particular, we confirmed that the COV and CNR of the images obtained using the BM3D algorithm were improved by 2.40 and 2.33 times, respectively, compared with the original image. In conclusion, the usefulness of the optimized BM3D algorithm in brain SPECT images using a fan beam collimator has been proven, and based on the results, it is expected that its application in various nuclear medicine examinations will be possible.

High-performance filtering power divider based on air-filled substrate integrated waveguide technology

  • A filtering power divider based on air-filled substrate-integrated waveguide (AFSIW) technology is proposed in this study. The AFSIW structure is used in the proposed filtering power divider for substantially reducing the transmission losses. This structure occupies a large area because of the use of air as a dielectric instead of typical dielectric materials. A filtering power divider provides power division and frequency selectivity simultaneously in a single device. The proposed filtering power divider comprises three AFSIW cavities. The filtering function is achieved using symmetrical inductive posts. The input and output ports of the proposed circuit are realized by directly connecting coaxial lines to the AFSIW cavities. This transition from the coaxial line to the AFSIW cavity eliminates the additional transitions, such as AFSIW-SIW and SIW-conductor-backed coplanar waveguide, applied in existing AFSIW circuits. The proposed power divider with a second-order bandpass filtering response is fabricated and measured at 5.5 GHz. The measurement results show that this circuit has a minimum insertion loss of 1 dB, 3-dB fractional bandwidth of 11.2%, and return loss exceeding 11 dB.

Stereo Matching Algorithm Based on Fast Guided Image Filtering for 3-Dimensional Video Service (3차원 비디오 서비스를 위한 고속 유도 영상 필터링 기반 스테레오 매칭 알고리즘)

  • Stereo matching algorithm is an essential part in computer vision and photography. Accuracy and computational complexity are challenges of stereo matching algorithm. Much research has been devoted to stereo matching based on cost volume filtering of matching costs. Local stereo matching based guided image filtering (GIF) has a computational complexity of O(N), but is still not enough to provide real-time 3-dimensional (3-D) video services. The proposed algorithm concentrates reduction of computational complexity using the concept of fast guided image filter, which increase the speed up to $O(N/\small{s}^2)$ with a sub-sampling ratio $\small{s}$. Experimental results indicated that the proposed algorithm achieves effective local stereo matching as well as a fast execution time for 3-D video service.

Block-matching and 3D filtering algorithm in X-ray image with photon counting detector using the improved K-edge subtraction method

  • Among photon counting detector (PCD)-based technologies, the K-edge subtraction (KES) method has a very high material decomposition efficiency. Yet, since the increase in noise in the X-ray image to which the KES method is applied is inevitable, research on image quality improvement is essential. Here, we modeled a block-matching and 3D filtering (BM3D) algorithm and applied it to PCD-based X-ray images with the improved KES (IKES) method. For PCD modeling, Monte Carlo simulation was used, and a phantom composed of iodine substances with different concentrations was designed. The IKES method was modeled by adding a log term to KES, and the X-ray image used for subtraction was obtained by applying the 3.0 keV range based on the K-edge region of iodine. As a result, the IKES image using the BM3D algorithm showed the lowest normalized noise power spectrum value. In addition, we confirmed that the contrast-to-noise ratio and no-reference-based evaluation results when the BM3D algorithm was applied to the IKES image were improved by 29.36 % and 20.56 %, respectively, compared to the noisy image. In conclusion, we demonstrated that the IKES imaging technique using a PCD-based detector and the BM3D algorithm fusion technique were very efficient for X-ray imaging.

Reconstruction Method of Spatially Filtered 3D images in Integral Imaging based on Parallel Lens Array (병렬렌즈배열 기반의 집적영상에서 공간필터링된 3차원 영상 복원)

  • In this paper, we propose a novel reconstruction method of spatially filtered 3D images in integral imaging based on parallel lens array. The parallel lens array is composed of two lens arrays, which are positioned side by side through longitudinal direction. Conventional spatial filtering method by using convolution property between periodic functions has drawback that is the limitation of the position of target object. this caused the result that the target object should be located on the low depth resolution region. The available spatial filtering region of the spatial filtering method is depending on the focal length and the number of elemental lens in the integral imaging pickup system. In this regard, we propose the parallel lens array system to enhance the available spatial filtering region and depth resolution. The experiment result indicate that the proposed method outperforms the conventional method.

Analysis of Response Time and Reflectivity According to Driving Conditions of Barrier Rib-Type E-Paper Fabricated by Charged Particle Filtering Method (격벽형 전자종이의 하전입자 필터링 방법 및 구동조건에 따른 응답시간 및 반사율 분석)

  • For electronic paper displays using electrophoresis, the response time and reflectivity of the image panel fabricated by filtering are analyzed. For the filtering process, a square wave and ramp wave are applied to white charged particles with a unique q/m value. We divide the sample panels into #1 to #4 according to the applied waveform in the filtering process. Step waves comprising two steps are used to drive the panel; therefore, we divide the driving conditions into D1~D4. The applied voltage at the first stage of the half cycle of the driving waveform moves the charged particles attached via the image force from the electrode, and the applied voltage at the second stage moves the floating charged particles by detaching. As mentioned, four types of driving conditions (D1 to D4) classified according to the half cycle of the driving waveform are applied to the samples #1 to #4), which are classified according to four types of filtering process. When driving condition D1 is applied to the four types of sample panels, the rise time of #1 is 1.59s, #2 is 1.706s, #3 is 1.853s, and #4 is 1.235s, resulting in #4 being relatively faster compared with other sample panels, and showing the same trend in other driving conditions. As a result, we confirm that applying the driving condition D1 causes abrupt movement of the white charged particles injected into the cell. When the same driving waveform (D1) is applied to each sample, reflectivities of 32.1% for #1, 31.4% for #2, 27.9% for #3, and 63.4% for #4 are measured. From the experiment, we confirm that the driving condition D1 (1s of 3.5 V, 9s of 3.0 V) and ramp wave #4 in filtering are desirable for good reflectivity and response time. Our research is expected to contribute to the improvement of the filtering process and optimization of the driving waveform.

Estimation of Single Vegetation Volume Using 3D Point Cloud-based Alpha Shape and Voxel (3차원 포인트 클라우드 기반 Alpha Shape와 Voxel을 활용한 단일 식생 부피 산정)

  • In this study, information on vegetation was collected using a point cloud through a 3-D Terrestrial Lidar Scanner, and the physical shape was analyzed by reconfiguring the object based on the refined data. Each filtering step of the raw data was optimized, and the reference volume and the estimated results using the Alpha Shape and Voxel techniques were compared. As a result of the analysis, when the volume was calculated by applying the Alpha Shape, it was overestimated than reference volume regardless of data filtering. In addition, the Voxel method to be the most similar to the reference volume after the 8th filtering, and as the filtering proceeded, it was underestimated. Therefore, when re-implementing an object using a point cloud, internal voids due to the complex shape of the target object must be considered, and it is necessary to pay attention to the filtering process for optimal data analyzed in the filtering process.
