The containment building Kori Unit 1 may require sequential steps for full decommissioning. This study assumes that the containment building is to be used as an auxiliary building that handles nuclear power systems and materials during decommissioning before conversion into a greenfield. Through the derivation of guidelines and dose evaluation, it was confirmed whether the radiation workers were satisfied with the ALARA decision. The specific modeling of the external radiation exposure was performed based on the facility investigation procedures. The external radiation specific derived concentration guideline levels (DCGLs) for radiation workers in containment building were obtained using the RESRAD-BUILD code and were applied to the VISIPLAN 3D ALARA Planning Tool code to calculate the working dose and check worker safety. The derivation of site-specific and realistic DCGLs and dose evaluation via 3D modeling can contribute to the scenario development for the decommission and remediation of containment building.

Background: Breast cancers are becoming more frequently diagnosed at early stages with improved long term outcomes. Late normal tissue complications induced by radiotherapy must be avoided with new breast radiotherapy techniques being developed. The aim of the study was to compare dosimetric parameters of planning target volume (PTV) and organs at risk between conformal (CRT) and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) after breast-conserving surgery. Materials and Methods: A total of 20 patients with early stage left breast cancer received adjuvant radiotherapy after conservative surgery, 10 by 3D-CRT and 10 by IMRT, with a dose of 50 Gy in 25 sessions. Plans were compared according to dose-volume histogram analyses in terms of PTV homogeneity and conformity indices as well as organs at risk dose and volume parameters. Results: The HI and CI of PTV showed no difference between 3D-CRT and IMRT, V95 gave 9.8% coverage for 3D-CRT versus 99% for IMRT, V107 volumes were recorded 11% and 1.3%, respectively. Tangential beam IMRT increased volume of ipsilateral lung V5 average of 90%, ipsilateral V20 lung volume was 13%, 19% with IMRT and 3D-CRT respectively. Patients treated with IMRT, heart volume encompassed by 60% isodose (30 Gy) reduced by average 42% (4% versus 7% with 3D-CRT), mean heart dose by average 35% (495cGy versus 1400 cGy with 3D-CRT). In IMRT minimal heart dose average is 356 cGy versus 90cGy in 3D-CRT. Conclusions: IMRT reduces irradiated volumes of heart and ipsilateral lung in high-dose areas but increases irradiated volumes in low-dose areas in breast cancer patients treated on the left side.
By accessing the current status of FPD system use in the hospitals located in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province as well as the entrance skin dose and the image quality evaluation realized by C-D Phantom, and the image assessment by the medical professionals regarding the radiography for the extremity, the following results were derived. 1. According to the evaluation made in the actual use of FPD system (12 machines), the grid ratio varied from 8:1 to 13:1, and 6 machines used the grid ratio with 12:1, realizing the largest number. Among the machines, there were 8 machines that allowed a removable grid while 3 machines did use a removable grid (25.0%). 2. When it came to the equipments used for the experiment, it showed that the amount of the entrance skin dose increased from 4.13 times up to 4.79 times with the grid use. 3. The difference in the entrance skin dose depending on the changes in the exposure condition(0.5times or 2.0times) was not significantly different regardless of the patients' thickness. 4. In terms of the image quality depending on C-D Phantom, the grid use was distinguished well. However, the images were well distinguishable as the exposure condition got increased. 5. In the clinical assessment, the grid use was less effective for the Hand PA, which was considered to shoot a thin body part. It was evaluated that the grid use was preferred for the Knee AP, which was shooting for a relatively thick body part. Nonetheless, 3 out of 5 people said that they would not use the grid if the entrance skin dose to reduced.
To evaluate the usefulness of 3-dimensional brachytherapy(BT) planning technique based on CT in cervical cancer. Patients with cervical cancer underwent 2-D BT treatment planning and then CT scan with HDR intracavitary applicators in place with same positions. Dose was prescribed to Point A with 5Gy per fraction on 2-D BT planning. For 3-D BT planning, and dose was prescribed to the High risk CTV for BT (HR CTV) with 5Gy. The 3-D BT planning goal was to cover at least 90% of the HR CTV with target 5Gy isodose surface while limiting the dose to $2cm^3$ of bladder to less than 7.5 Gy, and $2cm^3$ of rectum to less than 5Gy. In one patient of 10 patients, $D_{2cm3}$ of rectal dose was over 5Gy and 6patients at $D_{2cm3}$ of bladder dose on 2-D BT planning. There was a tendency to underestimate ICRU bladder dose than ICRU rectal dose. CT based 3-D BT planning for cervical cancer will enable evaluation of dose distributions for tumor and critical organs at risk. So, rectal and bladder morbidity as well as geographic miss will be reduced in case of the bulky disease or uterine malposition.
Dose compensators have been widely used in radiotherapy fields. But, few reliable verification methods have been reported. We have developed the verification method for the evaluation of the effect of dose compensator using exit beam dose profile. The exit beam dose profiles were measured with and without dose compensator. For this purpose X-Omat V films and lead screened cassettes are used and dose distibutions are compared. Phantom data are collected using CT simulator(Picker, AcQ Sim) and compensator information can be obtained from Render Plan 3-D planning System. Aluminum Compensators are generated by computer controlled milling machine. The real dose distribution in the phantom and the exit beam dose profile can be obtained simultaneously with the films in the phantom and the opposite site of the beam. Dose compensations effects for oblique beam, parallel opposing beam and inhomogeneous human phantom can be obtained using above tools. And we could simate those effects with exit beam dose profile using the method that we have developed in this study.
Silk has had a reputation as a luxurious and sensuous fabric but it is not popular due to the expensive price and poor durability. To develop the silk materials that apply the various industries, the artificially synthesized gene can be introduced into the silkworm and expressed in the silk gland. Transgenic silkworms for the mass production of green fluorescent silks are generated using a fibroin H-chain expression system. For commercial use, safety assessment of the transgenic silkworms is essential. The purpose of this study was to examine the potential acute oral toxicity of EGFP protein expressed in genetically modified (GM) fluorescence silkworm and to obtain the approximative lethal dose in the male and female at 6-weeks ICR mice. EGFP protein was fed at a dose of 2,000 mg/kg body weight in five male or five female mice. Mortalities, clinical findings and body weight changes were monitored for 1, 3, 7, 14 days after dosing. At the end of 14 day observation period, all mice were sacrificed, and the postmortem necropsy were performed. The test group was not observed death case. Also the effect was not admitted by test substance administration in common symptoms, the body weight and postmortem. The results of single-dose oral toxicity test showed that approximative lethal dose of EGFP protein expressed in fluorescence silkworm was considered to exceed the 2,000 mg/kg body weight in both sexes.
Radiation exposure exposed during mammography, which is performed for early examination of breast cancer, has also been suggested as a cause of carcinogenesis in the past, and scattered rays generated during examination may cause unnecessary radiation exposure to surrounding organs. In this study, the Monte Carlo simulation was used to evaluate the human organ doses exposed during conventional mammography, and to estimate the dose reduction effect for each organ when using 3D printing materials for radiation protection by scattered rays. As a result of organ dose evaluation, the breast on the opposite side of the examination was about 22.0% of the breast on the test side and about 58.6% on the eye, which was highly influenced by the scattering-ray. When using the 3D printing shield to protect it, the breast on the opposite side of the test showed an effective dose reduction effect at a thickness of 1 mm.

Objective: Three-dimensional rotational angiography (3D-RA) is increasingly used for the evaluation of intracranial aneurysms (IAs); however, radiation exposure to the lens is a concern. We investigated the effect of head off-centering by adjusting table height on the lens dose during 3D-RA and its feasibility in patient examination. Materials and Methods: The effect of head off-centering during 3D-RA on the lens radiation dose at various table heights was investigated using a RANDO head phantom (Alderson Research Labs). We prospectively enrolled 20 patients (58.0 ± 9.4 years) with IAs who were scheduled to undergo bilateral 3D-RA. In all patients' 3D-RA, the lens dose-reduction protocol involving elevation of the examination table was applied to one internal carotid artery, and the conventional protocol was applied to the other. The lens dose was measured using photoluminescent glass dosimeters (GD-352M, AGC Techno Glass Co., LTD), and radiation dose metrics were compared between the two protocols. Image quality was quantitatively analyzed using source images for image noise, signal-to-noise ratio, and contrast-to-noise ratio. Additionally, three reviewers qualitatively assessed the image quality using a five-point Likert scale. Results: The phantom study showed that the lens dose was reduced by an average of 38% per 1 cm increase in table height. In the patient study, the dose-reduction protocol (elevating the table height by an average of 2.3 cm) led to an 83% reduction in the median dose from 4.65 mGy to 0.79 mGy (P < 0.001). There were no significant differences between dose-reduction and conventional protocols in the kerma area product (7.34 vs. 7.40 Gy·cm2, P = 0.892), air kerma (75.7 vs. 75.1 mGy, P = 0.872), and image quality. Conclusion: The lens radiation dose was significantly affected by table height adjustment during 3D-RA. Intentional head off-centering by elevation of the table is a simple and effective way to reduce the lens dose in clinical practice.
Bone mineral density is a examination to measure the amount of bone in patients with metabolic bone disease. It is a low dose, but may cause unnecessary exposure to the gonads and other organs located in the periphery when examining the lumbar and proximal femurs. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluated the exposure dose for each organ exposed during the bone mineral density through simulation, and analyzed the applicability of the subject to radiation shielding devices using 3D printing materials. As a result, the highest dose was shown at 11.47 uSv in the breast during lumbar examination and 8.98 uSv in the testis during proximal femur examination. Also, the farther away from the examination site, the lower the effect of the scattering-ray. The shielding effect of using 3D printing shielding device showed high results in proportion to the effective atomic number and specific gravity of the printing material. Among the printing materials, ABS + W showed an effect of at least 78.72 to 96.3 9% compared to the existing lead material.

Purpose : This study aims to evaluate 3D dosimetric impact for MIP image and each phase image in stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for lung cancer using volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT). Materials and Methods : For each of 5 patients with non-small-cell pulmonary tumors, a respiration-correlated four-dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) study was performed. We obtain ten 3D CT images corresponding to phases of a breathing cycle. Treatment plans were generated using MIP CT image and each phases 3D CT. We performed the dose verification of the TPS with use of the Ion chamber and COMPASS. The dose distribution that were 3D reconstructed using MIP CT image compared with dose distribution on the corresponding phase of the 4D CT data. Results : Gamma evaluation was performed to evaluate the accuracy of dose delivery for MIP CT data and 4D CT data of 5 patients. The average percentage of points passing the gamma criteria of 2 mm/2% about 99%. The average Homogeneity Index difference between MIP and each 3D data of patient dose was 0.03~0.04. The average difference between PTV maximum dose was 3.30 cGy, The average different Spinal Coad dose was 3.30 cGy, The average of difference with $V_{20}$, $V_{10}$, $V_5$ of Lung was -0.04%~2.32%. The average Homogeneity Index difference between MIP and each phase 3d data of all patient was -0.03~0.03. The average PTV maximum dose difference was minimum for 10% phase and maximum for 70% phase. The average Spain cord maximum dose difference was minimum for 0% phase and maximum for 50% phase. The average difference of $V_{20}$, $V_{10}$, $V_5$ of Lung show bo certain trend. Conclusion : There is no tendency of dose difference between MIP with 3D CT data of each phase. But there are appreciable difference for specific phase. It is need to study about patient group which has similar tumor location and breathing motion. Then we compare with dose distribution for each phase 3D image data or MIP image data. we will determine appropriate image data for treatment plan.
