This paper presents a 3D shape optimization algorithm for electromagnetic devices using the design sensitivity analysis with finite element method. The structural deformation analysis based on the deformation theory of the elastic body under stress is used for mesh renewing. The design sensitivity and adjoint variable formulae are derived for the 3D finite element method with edge element. The results of sensitivity analysis are used as the input data of the structural analysis to calculate the relocation of the nodal points. This method makes it possible that the new mesh of analysis region can be obtained from the initial mesh without regeneration. The proposed algorithm is applied to the shape optimization of 3D electromagnet pole to net a uniform flux density at the target region.
In this paper, a 3D shape optimization algorithm which guarantees a smooth optimal shape is presented using parameterized sensitivity analysis. The design surface is parameterized using Bezier spline and the control points of the spline are taken as the design variables. The parameterized sensitivity for the control points are found from that for nodal Points. The design sensitivity and adjoint variable formulae are also derived for the 3D non-linear problems. Through an application to the shape optimization of 3D electromagnet to get a uniform magnetic field, the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is shown.
In this paper, we present a method for estimating full 3D shapes from given 2D silhouette images of human bodies. Because the silhouette only consists of the partial information on the true shape, it is an ill-posed problem. To address the problem, we use the statistical human shape space obtained from the existing large 3D human shape database. The method consists of three steps. First, we extract the boundary pixels and their appropriate normal vectors from the input silhouette images. Then, we initialize the correspondences of each pixel to the vertex of the statistically-deformable 3D human model. Finally, we numerically optimize the parameters of the statistical model to fit best to the given silhouettes. The viability and the robustness of the method is demonstrated with various experiments.

This study presents the visualization of shape information based on Octree using 3D laser scanning. The process of visualization was established to construct the Octree structure from the 3D scan data. The scan data was converted to a 2D surface through the mesh technique and the surface was then converted to a 3D object through the Raster/Vector transformation. The 3D object was transmitted to the Octree Root Node and The shape information was constructed by the recursive partitioning of the Octree Root Node. The test-bed was selected as the steel bridge structure in Sungkyunkwan University. The shape information based on Octree was condensed into 89.3%. In addition, the Octree compressibility was confirmed to compare the shape information of the office building, a computer science campus in Germany and a New College in USA. The basis is created by the visualization of shape information for double-deck tunnel and it will be expected to improve the efficiency of structural health monitoring and maintenance.
In the virtual fitting system, the use of a 3D avatar is not a simple garment model, but it should be able to reproduce the size and shape of the customer using a fitting system. Although various virtual fitting systems have their own 3D avatar sizing systems and provide 3D avatars that match the size of the customer, there are limitations in realizing the actual body shape in actual use by the consumer. The purpose of this study is to realize a 3D avatar with excellent size and conformity for customer use. Therefore, this study aims to provide basic data for the formation of a 3D standard avatar of Korean women aged in their 20's, by comparing and analyzing the degree of the consumer user friendly system change of a body type, and the consumer's ability in selecting a consumer representative body type. Based on the survey data of 'Size Korea' conducted from 2004 to 2015 at three times, we examined the change of body shape over 10 years. Then, based on the results of 6th and 7th data, 4 factors of the concurrent body shape change of women of the consumer demographic studied were selected through the use of a factor analysis. Following this analysis, the 4 extracted factors were clustered again and finally released 7 representative body types, which were obtained based on height and weight. The size of each representative figure is derived by the use of a regression analysis, and it is used as a basic data for 3D avatar formation of the virtual fitting system.

The body shape measurement method using 3D images has been widely used due to the recent development of 3D measurement cameras and algorithms. Existing 3D imaging devices are expensive devices, and there is a limit to their universalization. Due to the recent spread of inexpensive 3D cameras and the development of various measurement methods, various possibilities are being shown. It is expected to have a great impact on the medical device market that requires accurate data collection. Various medical device products using artificial intelligence are emerging, and accurate data collection is the most important to develop accurate artificial intelligence algorithms. Collection equipment using 3D cameras is expected to act as a major factor in the development of artificial intelligence algorithms using 3D images.

Shape-from-shading (SFS) or stereo vision algorithms can be utilized to measure the shape of an object with imaging techniques for effective sensing in non-contact measurements. SFS algorithms could reconstruct the 3D information from a 2D image data, offering relatively comprehensive information. Meanwhile, a stereo vision algorithm needs several feature points or lines to extract 3D information from two 2D images. However, to measure the size of an object with a freeform surface, the two algorithms need some additional information, such as boundary conditions and grids, respectively. In this study, a stereo vision scheme using the depth information obtained by shape-from-shading as patterns was proposed to measure the size of an object with a freeform surface. The feasibility of the scheme was proved with an experiment where the images of an object were acquired by a CCD camera at two positions, then processed by SFS, and finally by stereo matching. The experimental results revealed that the proposed scheme could recognize the size and shape of freeform surface fairly well.
The aim of this study was to successfully reflect human body changes on the transformation of the virtual body within 3D virtual fitting spaces. For this purpose, existing problems of shape transformation of the virtual body were analyzed and regression equations which provides useful basic data for transformation of the virtual body that can be applied usefully to the 3D virtual fitting system was developed. Necessary data for the analyses were body measurement and 3D scan data of women with average physical form between the ages of 40 through 49. The reason that we used human body changes of the female subjects in their forties was based on the recognition that fundamental female body changes start to occur from age of forty. Body shapes were largely divided into 3 groups according to obesity which was found to be the biggest factor of shape change. Seven factors were extracted based on factor analysis of 47 body measurement categories and regression equations were created to extract specific measurements for each BMI group based on these seven factors. The major contribution of this paper can be summarized as follows. First, the regression equations to extract specific measurements based on the 7 representative variables remediated existing problem of virtual bodies as it increased the number of body shape transformation areas. Second, the regression equations helped to overcome the problem of current failing to reflecting changes in body cross-section shape based on simple girth measurements based on analysis of cross-section distances.
The 360 VR video has a format of a stereoscopic shape such as an isometric shape or a cubic shape or a cubic shape. Although these formats have different characteristics, they have in common that the resolution is higher than that of a normal 2D video. Therefore, it takes much longer time to perform coding/decoding on 360 VR video than 2D Video, so parallel processing techniques are essential when it comes to coding 360 VR video. HEVC, the state of art 2D video codec, uses Wavefront Parallel Processing (WPP) technology as a standard for parallelization. This technique is optimized for 2D videos and does not show optimal performance when used in 3D videos. Therefore, a suitable method for WPP is required for 3D video. In this paper, we propose WPP coding/decoding method which improves WPP performance on cube map format 3D video. The experiment was applied to the HEVC reference software HM 12.0. The experimental results show that there is no significant loss of PSNR compared with the existing WPP, and the coding complexity of 15% to 20% is further reduced. The proposed method is expected to be included in the future 3D VR video codecs.

A novel finite element mesh regeneration method is presented for 3D shape optimization of electromagnetic devices. The method has its theoretical basis in the structural deformation of an elastic body. When the shape of the electromagnetic devices changes during the optimization process, a proper 3D finite element mesh can be easily obtained using the method from the initial mesh. For real engineering problems, the method guarantees a smooth shape with proper mesh quality, and maintains the same mesh topology as the initial mesh. Application of the optimum design of an electromagnetic shielding plate shows the effectiveness of the presented method.
