  • As 3D scanner develops, it can be used in measurement. To accomplish complete 3D measurement, the scanner has to view different sides of the target. It can be done by moving the scanner and fix it at every measuring point. By human, it would take so much time. However, by using robot, measuring time can be reduced and the procedure can be automated. It is suitable for 6R serial manipulator to do this kind of work in which the scanner should go any position in arbitrary orientation. We did inverse kinematics analysis by analytical and graphical methods. Then, we compared two methods.

  • The existing methods that can be adopted for measuring joints involve either to use borehole or photogrammetry. Due to restricted space, acquisition of data in limited area, and measurement errors, above methods have limitations acquiring the objective and correct results. To get over defects of existing joint measurement methods, joints have been measured using 3D-Laser scanner with accuracy and efficiency. This research aims to investigate an accuracy and applicabiliy of 3D-Laser scanner for measuring rock slope joints. Measurement of rock slope joints has been executed using 3D-Laser scanner & clinometer and then, results from both methods are compared. Results from both methods indicate that they show nearly equal features for joint distributions and numbers of joint information obtained by 3D-Laser scanner are much more than ones measured using clinomer. Therefore, 3D-Laser scanner turns out to be very effective by the fact that it contributes to reduce investigation costs & periods, objectify data from rock slope joints.

  • The reverse engineering (RE) technology can quickly generate 3D point cloud data of an object by capturing the surface of a model using a 3D scanner. In the rapid prototyping (RP) technology, prototypes are rapidly produced from 3D CAD models in a layer-by-layer additive basis. In this paper, a physical human head shape is duplicated using a new RP process, the Transfer-type Variable Lamination Manufacturing process using expandable polystyrene foam sheet (VLM-ST), after the point cloud data of a human head shape measured from 3D SNX scanner are converted to STL file. From the duplicated human head shape, it has been shown that the VLM-ST process in connection with the 3D scanner is a fast and efficient process in that shapes with free surface, such as the human head shape, can be duplicated with ease. Considering the measurement time and the shape duplication time, the use of 3D SNX scanner and the VLM-ST process is expected to reduce the lead-time fur the development of new products in comparison with the other existing RE-RP connected manufacturing systems.

It need rapidity, accuracy, reality. Data acquisition method for modelling are contact 3dimensional measurement system, LASER scanner, Pattern scanner, and digital photogrammetry. This study introduce to 3 dimensional modelling methods and analysis of these method. We tried to 3D modelling of automobile part using OPTO-Top pattern scanner which system have rapidity and accuracy, and compared effectiveness of each method. The 3D display web environment was made.

  • A 3D laser scanner is widely used in various fields such as games, movies, medicines, art, design, etc. Many studies for utilizing the 3D laser scanner in the fields of civil engineering have also been carried out, for example, for systematically managing tunnel and/or bridge construction. However, since a software which is directly applicable to Korean construction system does not exist, the amount of data obtained from existing the 3D laser scanner is too much to handle in a systematic way. Therefore, in this paper, a new data processing technique was established which can rapidly and effectively treat the 3D laser scanning data. Moreover, a software that can systematically manage the tunnel construction was developed. The developed software can assess the construction quality of tunnel excavation such as under-break, over-break, cracks, leakage and efflorescence, etc. A 3D laser scanner and the developed software was applied to an in-situ tunnelling site, and verified usefulness of the 3D laser scanner. The developed software may be useful for tunnel maintenance as well as for systematic management of tunnel construction.

  • This paper is to model a 3D-shape product applying mathematically the data acquired from a 3D scanner and using an Automatic Design Program. The research studied in the reverse engineering up to now has been developed continuously and surprisingly. However, forming 3D-shape solid models in CAE and CAM, based on the research, the study leaves much to be desired. Especially, analyses and studies reverse-designing automatically using measured data after manufacturing. Consequently, we are going to acquire geometric data using an 3D scanner in this study with which we will open a new field of reverse engineering by a program whic hcan design a 3D-shape solid model in a CAD-based program automatically.

  • 3D scanners are needed in various fields, and their usage range is greatly expanded. In particular, it is being used to reduce costs at various stages during product development and production. Now, the importance of quality inspection in the manufacturing industry is increasing. Structured optical system applied in this study is suitable for measuring high precision of mold, press work, precision products, etc. and economical and effective 3D scanning system for measuring inspection in manufacturing industry can be implemented. We developed Structured light 3D scanner which can measure high precision by using Digital Light Processing (DLP) projector and camera. In this paper, 3D image scanner based on structured optical system can realize 3D scanning system economically and effectively when measuring inspection in the manufacturing industry.

  • This study presents a color 3D scanner based on the laser structured-light imaging method that can simultaneously acquire 3D shape data and color of a target object using a single camera. The 3D data acquisition of the scanner is based on the structured-light imaging method, and the color data is obtained from a natural color image. Because both the laser image and the color image are acquired by the same camera, it is efficient to obtain the 3D data and the color data of a pixel by avoiding the complicated correspondence algorithm. In addition to the 3D data, the color data is helpful for enhancing the realism of an object model. The proposed scanner consists of two line lasers, a color camera, and a rotation table. The line lasers are deployed at either side of the camera to eliminate shadow areas of a target object. This study addresses the calibration methods for the parameters of the camera, the plane equations covered by the line lasers, and the center of the rotation table. Experimental results demonstrate the performance in terms of accurate color and 3D data acquisition in this study.

  • We have developed a non-destructive, touch-free method for estimating leaf areas with a structured-light three-dimensional (3D) scanner. When the surfaces of soybean leaves were analyzed with both the 3D scanner and a leaf area meter, the results were linearly related ($R^2=0.90$). The strong correlation ($R^2=0.98$) was calculated between shoot fresh weights and leaf areas when the scanner was employed during growth stages V1 to V4. We also found that leaf areas measured by the scanner could be used to detect changes in growth responses to abiotic stress. Whereas under control conditions the areas increased over time, salt and drought treatments were associated with reductions in those values after 14 d and 12 d, respectively. Based on our findings, we propose that a structured-light 3D scanner can be used to obtain reliable estimates of leaf area and plant biomass.

  • In this paper, we present a primitive system design of a super multi-view(SMV) 3-D display system based on a focused light array(FLA) concept using reflective vibrating scanner array(ViSA). The parallel beam scanning using a vibrating scanner array is performed by moving left and right an array of curvature-compensated mirrors or diamond-ruled reflective grating attached to a vibrating membrane. The parallel laser beam scanner array can replace the polygon mirror scanner which has been used in the SMV 3-D display system based on the focused light array(FLA) concept proposed by Kajiki at TAO(Telecommunications) Advancement Organization). The proposed system has great advantages in the sense that it requires neither huge imaging optics nor mechanical scanning pals. Some mathematical analyses and fundamental limitations of the proposed system are presented. The proposed vibrating scanner array, after some modifications and refinements, may replace polygon mirror-based scanners in the near future.
