  • Computation steps for 3D graphic processing consist of two stages - fixed operation stage and programming required stage. Using this characteristic of 3D pipeline, a hybrid structure between graphics hardware designed by fixed structure and programmable hardware based on instructions, can handle graphic processing more efficiently. In this paper, fragment Shader is designed under this hybrid structure. It also supports OpenGL ES 2.0. Interior interface is optimized to reduce the delay of entire pipeline, which may be occurred by data I/O between the fixed hardware and the Shader. Interior register group of the Shader is designed by an interleaved structure to improve the register space and processing speed.

  • When the data from the artificial satellite is analyzed, recent years it is perceived to vegetation index using BRF(Bidirectional Reflectance Factor) of the observation target. To make the BRF models, it is important to measure the 3D structure of the observation target actually. In this study, it is proposed to the observation technique by using laser scanning data. Also, our team has been operating the radio controlled helicopter which can fly over the tall forest canopy and it can be equipped the measurement system.

Structure Extraction in 3D Cloud Points Using Color Information and Hough Transform (색상 정보와 호프변환을 이용한 3차원 점군데이터 구조물 추출 기법 연구)

  • In this paper, a new extraction algorithm for artificial structure in 3D cloud points of terrestrial LIDAR is described, considering that various obstacles in terrestrial LIDAR make it difficult to apply conventional algorithms which are designed for air-born LIDAR data. Firstly we use the R, G, B color information from the terrestrial LIDAR data to discriminate among the massive 3D cloud points. Hough transform is then applied to estimate the straight lines that correspond to the target structure. Finally, the structure is extracted by comparing the distance between the estimated line and 3D cloud points. The proposed algorithm is efficient in the sense that it requires the user interaction only when the reference colors are obtained. Computer simulation shows the performance to be quite satisfactory.

  • Lower limbs deformity is a congenital disease and can also be occurred by an acquired factor. This paper suggests a new technique for surgical planning of Corrective Osteotomy for Lower Limbs (COLL) using 2D-3D medical image registration. Converting to a 3D modeling data of lower limb based on CT (computed tomography) scan, and divide it into femur, tibia and fibula; which composing the lower limb. By rearranging the model based on the biplane 2D images of X-ray data, a 3D upright bone structure was acquired. There are two ways to array the 3D data on the 2D image: Intensity-based registration and feature-based registration. Even though registering Intensity-based method takes more time, this method will provide more precise results, and will improve the accuracy of surgical planning.

  • In general, a two-dimensional platform were used to manage the structural inspection information. But we performed a study on utilizing 3D model to input and display the information of structure inspection. Coarse and Fine model of structure were used to input the information. 3D model combined with database built from record plan and field inspections data and rating will provide more intuitive and effective environment for inspectors in bridge maintenance.

  • Reverse engineering technology refers to the process that creates a CAD model of an existing part using measuring devices. Recently, non-contact scanning devices have become more accurate and the speed of data acquisition has increased drastically. However, they generate thousands of points per second and various types of point data. Therefore. it becomes a important to handle the huge amount and various types of point data to generate a surface model efficiently. This paper proposes a new triangular mesh generation method using 3D grids. The geometric information of a part can be obtained from point cloud data by estimating normal values of the points. In our research, the non-uniform 3D grids are generated first for feature based data reduction based on the geometric information. Then, triangulation is performed with the reduced point data. The grid structure is efficiently used not only for neighbor point search that can speed up the mesh generation process but also for getting surface connectivity information to result in same topology surface with the point data. Through this integrated approach, it is possible to create surface models from scanned point data efficiently.

  • In case of high temperature damage such as fire, the durability of concrete is reduced due to the collapse of internal pore tissue. Therefore, in this paper, we are going to analyze the pore structure of cement paste hardening agent using MIP analysis and build up 3D data produced using X-ray CT tomography. The test specimen is made of cement paste from W/C 0.4. As the temperature of heating increased, the amount of air gap and the diameter of air gap in cement paste increased. It is judged that the air gap structure inside cement collapsed due to the evaporation of the hydrate, gel count, capillary water, etc. inside the cement due to the high temperature.

  • This paper proposes a real-time 3D visualization system for situational awareness of Air force operations. This 3D system of situational awareness supports a high-level commander of Air force during the war game operations. These situation aware supporting data such as the aircraft track data of radar, aircraft schedule database, map and satellite image data are integrated into one structured data and those are visualized as 3D structure. By using an Out-of-Core method, we can visualize a 3D huge data in real-time in mobile notebook environment. The experiment shows several examples of 3D visualization supporting situation awareness for Air force operation.

  • Laser scanning is a new technology for obtaining Digital Surface Models(DSM) of the earth surface.It is a fast method for sampling the earth surface with high density and high point accuracy. This paper is for buildings extraction from LiDAR points data. The core part of building construction is based on a parameters filter for distinguishing between terrain and non-terrain laser points. The 3D geometrical properties of the building facades are obtained based on plane fitting using least-squares adjustment. The reconstruction part of the procedure is based on the adjacency among the roof facades. Primitive extraction and facade intersections are used for building reconstruction. For overcome the difficulty just reconstruct of laser points data used with digital camera images. Also, 3D buildings of city area reconstructed using digital map. Finally, In this paper show 3D building Modeling using digital map and LiDAR data.

  • 3D point cloud is widely used in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Medical, Computer Graphics, and many other fields. Due to the improvement of 3D laser scanner, a massive 3D point cloud whose gigantic file size is bigger than computer's memory requires efficient preprocessing and visualization. We suggest a data structure to solve the problem; a 3D point cloud is gradually subdivided by arbitrary-sized cube grids structure and corresponding point cloud subsets generated by the center of each grid cell are achieved while preprocessing. A massive 3D point cloud file is tested through two algorithms: QSplat and ours. Our algorithm, grid-based, showed slower speed in preprocessing but performed faster rendering speed comparing to QSplat. Also our algorithm is further designed to editing or segmentation using the original coordinates of 3D point cloud.
