Physicochemical Properties of Ground Pork with Lotus Leaf Extract during Refrigerated Storage (연잎추출물 첨가가 분쇄돈육의 냉장저장 중 이화학적 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of lotus leaf extract on the physicochemical characteristics of ground pork stored at $4^{\circ}C$ for 10 days. Four types of ground pork were evaluated: ice water added (T0), 3% lotus leaf extract added (T1), 7% lotus leaf extract added (T2), and 10% lotus leaf extract added (T3). The pH was increased during storage, but decreased after 10 days of storage (p<0.05). The TBARS increased with a longer storage period (p<0.05), and those of T0, T1, T2 and T3 were 0.777, 0.244, 0.185, 0.182 mg MA/kg, respectively, after 10 days of storage. The VBN content of T0 and T1 increased with a longer storage period (p<0.05), but those of T2 and T3 were not significantly changed. In the case of surface color, the $L^*$ increased with a longer storage period, and that of T0 was the highest (p<0.05). The $a^*$ decreased with a longer storage period, and the $b^*$ was the highest after 1 day of storage (p<0.05). In the case of internal color, $L^*$ was not significantly changed, and $a^*$ was decreased with a longer storage period (p<0.05). The $b^*$ increased with a longer storage period (p<0.05). Water holding capacity increased with a longer storage period, and those of T2 and T3 were the highest (p<0.05). Cooking loss decreased with a longer storage period, and those of T0 and T1 were higher than those of T2 and T3 (p<0.05). Hardness and chewiness were not significantly different with a longer storage period, or among any samples.

Meat Quality and Storage Characteristics of Finishing Pigs by Feeding Stevia and Charcoal (스테비아와 숯이 급여된 비육돈의 육질 및 저장특성)

  • This study was conducted to determine the effects of stevia (Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni) and charcoal supplementation on meat quality traits in finishing pigs. A total of 420 pigs (LYD) were randomly allocated into seven treatments with three replications. The dietary treatments were T1 (control, basal diet), T2 (basal diet+0.3% stevia), T3 (basal diet+0.6% stevia), T4 (basal diet+0.3% charcoal), T5 (basal diet+0.6% charcoal), T6 (basal diet+0.3% stevia+0.3% charcoal), and T7 (basal diet+0.6% stevia+0.6% charcoal). Pigs were slaughtered conventionally on each marketing day and chilled overnigth. At 24 h postmortem, the Longissimus muscle from left side between the 6th and 14th rib was removed for the meat quality traits. The T6 group showed a higher pH, water holding capacity (p<0.05), and lower drip loss (p<0.05) than those in the T1 group. The T6 group showed lower (p<0.05) $L^*$ (lightness) and $b^*$ (yellowness) values and higher $a^*$ (redness) color value than those in the T1 group, resulting in a redder surface meat color. In the subjective evaluation, marbling and color scores improved in the T6 group compared to those in the other treatments. In the panel test, the T6 group tended to have higher tenderness and juiciness scores than those in the T1 group. In the storage characteristics, all treatments showed similar 2-thiobarbituric acid and volatile basic nitrogen values as well as total microbial counts during 7 d of cold storage. As a result, dietary supplementation with 0.3% stevia and 0.3% charcoal showed the highest meat quality traits and storage characteristics in finishing pigs.

Effect of feeding diet containing Cordyceps with fly pupa on blood lipid, fatty acid and TBARS in broiler chickens (브로일러의 혈액지질, 닭고기의 지방산 및 지방산패도에 관한 파리번데기 동충하초 급여효과)

  • The objective of this study was to determine the feeding effect of a diet containing Cordyceps with fly pupa on the changes in blood lipid profile from broiler chickens, fatty acids and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) in chicken meat. A total of 360 chicks (Ross strain 308) were divided on hatch day into four treated groups with respect to a 35-day feeding regimen: T1 (control group), T2 (2.0% Cordyceps with fly pupa), T3 (3.5% Corceps with fly pupa) and T3 (5.0% Cordyceps with fly pupa). Blood triacylglyceride and total cholesterol level was significantly decreased by 5.32-10.63% and 9.23-12.62%, respectively, in groups T2, T3 and T4 when compared to T1 (p<0.05). Water holding capacity was significantly highest in T2 (p<0.05), while there were no significant differences among groups T2, T3 and T. In chicken meat, the ratio of saturated fatty acid to unsaturated fatty acid was high in the T3 and T4 groups, the ratio of n-6 to n-3 fatty acid was low in the T2, T3 and T4 groups and oleic acid (18:1n-9) was high in the T2, T3 and T4 groups, when compared to T1 (p<0.05). TBARS tended to increase according to the storage time (in days), and was significantly lower in the chicken thigh muscles with skin in groups T2, T3 and T4 as compared to T1 (p<0.05). These results suggest that a diet containing 2.0-3.5% of Cordyceps with fly pupa may decrease blood lipid and improve both the shelf-life and quality of broiler chicken meat.

  • In Experiment 1, two hundred ten hatched broiler chickens(Ross) were assigned to seven dietary treatments for 5weeks. Each treatment was consisted of 3 replications with 10 birds per replication. Control diet was formulated 22%CP and 3,150kcaIME/kg for starter diet, 19%CP, 3,200kca1ME/kg for finisher diet. Euglena gracilis was added to control diet at the level of 0.25, 0.5, 1.0% and Euglena bleached(DHA enriched) at the level of 0.5, 1.0, 2.0% in the diet. 0 Experiment 2, two hundred fifty hatched broiler chickens(Ross) were assigned to five dietary treatments: T1; control, T2: T1 + Euglena gracilis(DHA enriched)0.5%, T3; T1 + Euglena gracilis(DHA enriched)1.0%, T4: T1 + Euglena bleached(DHA enriched)0.5%,T5: T1 $.$Euglena bleached(DHA enriched)1.0%. In Experiment 1, 2.0% Euglena bleached treatment showed highest DHA level in breast muscle(P<0.05), In Experiment 2, 1.0% Euglena bleached treatment showed highest EPA, Lignoceric acid and DHA level in breast muscle(P<0.05).

Reliability of Stereotactic Coordinates of 1.5-Tesla and 3-Tesla MRI in Radiosurgery and Functional Neurosurgery

  • Objective : The aims of this study are to identify interpersonal differences in defining coordinates and to figure out the degree of distortion of the MRI and compare the accuracy between CT, 1.5-tesla (T) and 3.0T MRI. Methods : We compared coordinates in the CT images defined by 2 neurosurgeons. We also calculated the errors of 1.5T MRI and those of 3.0T. We compared the errors of the 1.5T with those of the 3.0T. In addition, we compared the errors in each sequence and in each axis. Results : The mean difference in the CT images between the two neurosurgeons was $0.48{\pm}0.22mm$. The mean errors of the 1.5T were $1.55{\pm}0.48mm$ (T1), $0.75{\pm}0.38$ (T2), and $1.07{\pm}0.57$ (FLAIR) and those of the 3.0T were $2.35{\pm}0.53$ (T1), $2.18{\pm}0.76$ (T2), and $2.16{\pm}0.77$ (FLAIR). The smallest mean errors out of all the axes were in the x axis : 0.28-0.34 (1.5T) and 0.31-0.52 (3.0T). The smallest errors out of all the MRI sequences were in the T2 : 0.29-0.58 (1.5T) and 0.31-1.85 (3.0T). Conclusion : There was no interpersonal difference in running the Gamma $Plan^{(R)}$ to define coordinates. The errors of the 3.0T were greater than those of the 1.5T, and these errors were not of an acceptable level. The x coordinate error was the smallest and the z coordinate error was the greatest regardless of the MRI sequence. The T2 sequence was the most accurate sequence.

Effects of Pregnancy Stage on Eating Behaviors of Hanwoo Heifers (Bos taurus coreanae) (한우 미경산우 임신 단계가 채식행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of this study was to determine the effect of different pregnancy stages on the eating and ruminating behavior of Hanwoo heifers (Bos taurus coreanae). A total of twelve Hanwoo heifers were divided into four groups depending on pregnancy stage: C: before pregnancy, 9 months old, T1: 3 months pregnant, 16 months old, T2: 6 months pregnant, 19 months old, T3: 9 months pregnant, 22 months old (3 replicates per group). Concentrate of 1% of the body weight was fed to them. Roughage was provided at ad libitum to all treatments. Our results revealed that the intake of roughage was the highest in the T3 group (at 3.68 kg) and the lowest in the C group (at 1.02 kg, p<0.05). Total intake in the order from high to low was: T3 > T2 > T1 > C (p<0.05). The rate of dry matter intake compared to body weight (DMI/BW, %) from high to low order was: T3 > T2 > T1 > C (p<0.05). Eating time, ruminating time, and chewing time were the highest in T3 group (p<0.05). Resting time was the highest in C group (p<0.05). The number of bolus and the number of total chews were significantly higher in T3 compared to those in other groups. However, ruminating time per bolus was not significantly difference among groups. The number of chews per bolus from high to low order was: C > T1 > T3 > T2 (p<0.05). The number of bolus per minute was not significantly different among groups. The number of drinking and the number of defecating were significantly higher in C and T1, respectively (p<0.05). However, the number of urinating had no effect according to pregnancy stage. Eating rate and chewing efficiency were significantly higher (p<0.05) in accordance with pregnancy stage (T3 > T2 > T1 > C). Ruminating efficiency was significantly (p<0.05) higher T1 than that in other groups.

Investigation on the Characteristics Variation According to Air Supply Capacity in Layer Manure by Composting (공기공급량에 따른 산란계분의 퇴비화 특성변화에 관한 연구)

  • The composting of layer manure is economical and efficiently process. In this study, the variation of composting characteristics in layer manure was investigated according to air supply capacity. The fermented compost was added in layer manure and mixed with sawdust inside composting reactors. The level of air supply capacity was varied in the range of $50{\sim}200\;{\ell}/m^3/min$. During composting the temperature variations of composting piles was different the temperatures of composting piles for T-1 ($50\;{\ell}/m^3/min$) and T-2 ($100\;{\ell}/m^3/min$) were reached at $40^{\circ}C$ and $50^{\circ}C$ within 2 days, respectively. For T-3 ($150\;{\ell}/m^3/min$) and T-4 ($200\;{\ell}/m^3/min$), their temperatures was $60^{\circ}C$ within same days and maintained during 8 days. Water contents decreased according to the air supply capacity; 8.9%, 15.4%, 18.0% and 18.6% for T-1, T-2, T-3 and T-4. The weight ratios of T-1, T-2, T-3 and T-4 were reduced to 12.8%, 15.6%, 18.1% and 17.9%, respectively. The decreasing volumetric ratios of T-1, T-2, T-3 and T-4 were 18.0%, 21.0%, 22.3% and 22.0%. The oxygen discharge concentrations during composting were 12 ppm for T-1, T-2 and 9 ppm for T-3 and T-4. After composting, fertilizer components such as total nitrogen (TN) and phosphorous pentoxide ($P_2O_5$) were examined at each air supply capacity. Nitrogen contents of the T-1, T-2, T-3 and T-4 were 0.75%, 0.74%, 0.72% and 0.64%. Also, The contents of $P_2O_5$ were 0.35%, 0.40%, 0.38% and 0.42% for T-1, T-2, T-3 and T-4.

Mössbauer Studied of Multiferroic Bi2/3La1/3FeO3 Nanoparticles (Multiferroic Bi2/3La1/3FeO3 나노입자의 Mössbauer 연구)

  • La substituted perovskite $BiFeO_3$ have been prepared by a sol-gel method. Magnetic and structural properties of the powders were characterized with Mossbauer spectroscopy, XRD, SEM, and TG-DTA. The crystal structure is found to be a rhombohedrally distorted perovskite structure with the lattice constant $\alpha=3.985{\AA}\;and\;\alpha=89.5^{\circ}.\;Bi_{2/3}La_{1/3}FeO_3$ powders that were annealed at and above $600^{\circ}C$ have a single-phase perovskite structure. However, powders annealed at $900^{\circ}C$ have a typical perovskite structure with small amount of $Bi_2O_3$ phase. The Neel temperature of $Bi_{2/3}La_{1/3}FeO_3$ is found to be $680\pm3K$. The isomer shift value at room temperature is found to be 0.27 mm/s relative to the Fe metal, which is consistent with high-spin $Fe^{3+}$ charge states. Debye temperature far$Bi_{2/3}La_{1/3}FeO_3$ is found to be $305\pm5K$. The average hyperfine field $H_{hf}(T)$ of the $Bi_{2/3}La_{1/3}FeO_3$, shows a temperature dependence of $[H_{hf}(T)-H_{hf}(0)]/H_{hf}(0)=-0.42(T/T_N)^{3/2}-0.13(T/T_N)^{5/2}$ for $T/T_N<0.7$ indicative of spin-wave excitation.
