유치원 방문 구강건강교육사업의 효과 (The effect of preschool visiting oral health education program)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to check the effect of preschool visiting oral health education programs and provide baseline data for an oral health education program that suggests the necessity of oral health education in children's living places. Methods: The preschool visiting oral health education was conducted with the parents of 3-year-old and 4-year-old children at a preschool in the jurisdiction of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, with teachers observing the education, and oral health educators to examine the effect of the oral health education, the effectiveness of the education, the status of oral health care, and the degree of cooperation for the education. Results: Regarding oral health behaviors after the education program, the attitude toward brushing teeth after food intake increased from 2.86 to 3.17 and thinking of the relationship with dental caries and eating food increased from 2.57 to 2.90. The satisfaction with the children's health education was very high at over 4.9 points in most items. The teachers' interest in children's oral care was 4.26 points, and the degree of their cooperation for education was 4.41 points; 96.4% responded that they were willing to conduct reeducation. Conclusions: Children's oral health education should be conducted steadily and repeatedly.

어머니의 양육태도와 유아의 유치원 적응의 관계 (Relationships Between Mother's Child Rearing Attitudes and Child's Adjustment to Kindergarten)

  • This study investigated the relationship between mother's parenting attitudes and the adjustment to kindergarten of young children by gender and only-child/ sibling status. Subjects consisted of 210 3- to 6-year-old children and their mothers sampled from 3 kindergartens in Seoul City and Gyeongbuk Province, Korea. Instruments were the Maternal Parenting Attitude Scale (Ahn, 2000) and Kindergarten Adjustment Scale(Oh, 2006). Statistical methods were correlation and t-test. Results showed that mothers' hostile parenting attitude correlated with children's problematic adjustment to kindergarten and controlling parenting attitudes correlated with children's negative adjustment to kindergarten. Children's kindergarten adjustment varied by gender : boys' problem behavior was higher than girls'. Finally, being an only child or having siblings was not significantly related to kindergarten adjustment.

가작화 놀이와 이야기 만들기에서 나타나는 유아의 마음 다루기 (Children's Theory of Mind in Pretend Play and Story-Making)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate children's theory of mind in pretend play and story-making, from a qualitative perspective. Three-to-five year old children participated in group play and individual story-making activities. Children's narratives undertaken in two tasks were video-taped, transcribed, analyzed and reorganized into three key propositions, in consideration of the field notes that the researcher had taken. The children started their pretend play and story-making activities by 'forming connections among minds' of participants or story components. They continued to engage in pretend play and story making by 'dealing minds constructively and consistently' to keep their themes. Finally they resolved discordances in play and story-making by 'settings different mind windows and moving among them flexibly'.

아버지의 사회화신념과 아동의 사회적 행동 (Father's Socialization Beliefs as Related to Child Social Behaviors)

  • This study explored father's proactive socialization beliefs as related to social behaviors of their children. The Subjects were 194 fathers and their 3- to 6-year-old children in Seoul. Instruments included 2 questionnaires : the Social Skills Questionnaire reported by fathers and Child Social Behaviors rated by teachers. Results showed that father's socialization beliefs varied in terms of the importance of social skills, the reasons why parents believe children acquire or don't acquire particular social skills, and the most effective strategies fathers hold for socialization of children. There were significant differences in father's proactive beliefs by sex of child, economic status, and fathers' educational level. Fathers who emphasized child's regulation of negative emotions had children showing low prosocial behaviors.

Penetrating gallbladder injury in a pediatric patient in the United States: a case report

  • Penetrating gallbladder injuries are uncommon in the pediatric population. The treatment varies according to the severity of the injury and the patient's hemodynamics. We present the case of an 11-year-old male with an accidental pellet gunshot wound to the right upper abdomen that resulted in a grade III liver laceration and damage to the anterior gallbladder wall. The patient underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy with drain placement. Postoperative radiography of the surgical specimen confirmed the presence of the pellet in the gallbladder. The patient recovered uneventfully and was discharged home on postoperative day 3. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a feasible treatment option for penetrating gallbladder injuries in hemodynamically stable patients.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate clinical characteristics and the attribution of children having play therapy by developmental, behavioral, and emotional disorders. Subjects of this study were 118 3- to 9-year-old children randomly selected from children who were receiving or who already finished play therapy at one of the child and family counseling centers in Cheong-Ju City. Results showed that children with developmental disorders had lower levels of relationship during play, and their relationships were more disorganized or separated than children with emotional or with behavioral disorders. This study has significance by providing psychological information on play characteristics of children by type of disorder.

창의적 행동특성과 놀이성, 상호작용적 또래놀이, 교사-유아관계 간의 구조분석 (Analysis of Causal Relationships among Playfulness, Interactive Peer Play, Teacher-Child Relations and Creative Characteristics)

  • Subjects in this study on causal relationships among playfulness, interactive peer play, teacher-child relationships, and creative characteristics were 286 3- to 5-year-old children. Instruments were the Rating Scale for Creative Characteristic of Preschoolers (Lee et al., 2002), Children's Playfulness Scale (Bemett, 1990), Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale (Fantuzzo et al., 1995), and Student Teacher Relationship Scale (Pianta, 1991). Results showed : (1) significant relationships among social spontaneous, cognitive spontaneous and children's humor in sub-areas of children's playfulness, friendliness in sub-areas of teacher-child relationships, play interaction in sub-areas of interactive peer play and creative characteristics. (2) Children's creative characteristics directly influenced social spontaneous, cognitive spontaneous and children's humor in sub-areas of children's playfulness and of play interaction in sub-areas of interactive peer play.

유아의 애착 표상과 교사-유아관계 및 사회적 능력간의 관계 (Preschool Children's Representation of Attachment : Associations with Teacher-Child Relationship and Social Competence)

  • In this study, children's representation of attachment was assessed by the Attachment Story Completion Task(Bretherton, Ridgeway, & Cassidy, 1990) administered to 101 5-to 6-year-old children(56boys, 45girls). Teacher-child relationship and social competence were evaluated by a questionnaire administered to preschool teachers. Based on the children's representation of attachment in their narrative responses to the story stems, 56.4% of the children were classified as having secure, 22.8% as insecure-avoidant, and 20.8% as insecure-disorganized attachments. Children with secure representation of attachment exhibited more social competence and fewer behavioral problems in the child-care setting than children with insecure representation of attachment. This study showed that the child's internal model of attachment formed from experience with caregiver is capable of transmitting social relationships outside the home.

그림책과 명화를 활용한 미술프로그램이 유아의 미술 감상능력과 미술 표현능력에 미치는 영향 (Picture Book and Famous Paintings Art Programs : Effect on Young Children's Artistic Appreciation and Artistic Expression)

  • This study of the effectiveness of various art programs took place in Gwangju with asample of 60 four- to five-year-old children from three kindergartens. The children were assigned to one of three experimental groups : 20 children in the picture book group(experimental group 1), 20 children in the famous paintings group(experimental group 2), and 20 children in the traditional group(control group). Data were analyzed by ANCOVA using the scores of the pre-test as covariance. Results showed that the picture book and the famous painting art programs affected young children's art ability more positively than the traditional art program. The picture book art program showed particularly high educational effectiveness.

유아·성인 관계방식이 유아의 도덕개념 형성에 미치는 영향 (The Influences of Adult-child Relationships on the Moral Concepts of Preschoolers)

  • The present study investigated the construction of the moral concepts of 3-, 4-, and 5- year old Korean children. Instruments were the Maternal Behavior Research Instrument by Schaefer for mother and feather nurturing attitudes, and the Domain Distinctiveness Model for children's moral judgments. Maternal and teacher attitudes were categorized by the affection-rejection factor consisting of affection-affection, affection-rejection, rejection-affection, and rejection-rejection dimensions, and by the permissive, -control factor consisting of permissive-permissive, permissive-control, control-permissive, and control-control dimension. Children's data were collected with an individualized interview in which children were asked to judge moral and social conventional transgression events. 30 children were assigned to each of the maternal/teacher attitude dimensions; thus, there were 120 children for each factor. Results showed that (1) the affection-affection cohort was must strongly related to moral rules using both the seriousness criterion and deserved punishment criterion, and (2) the permissive-permissive cohort was most strongly related to reasoning and action. However, this cohort did not break out of children's structural limitation (limited responses to the intangible).
