  • As Utility interactive fuel cell systems are widely used, it is required for each power conditioning system(PCS) to have higher generating performance and more stable connecting characteristics. This study is focused to minimization of power losses and hence higher efficiency related to the new half bridge type 3-stage utility interactive PCS topology. The loss factor of half-bridge converter becomes only 1.2[%] under the rated load, and hence total efficiency is maintained to be higher as 91[%].

  • In this paper, we propose two-stage multichannel architecture for oyster product management system, called cloud stage and agent stage. There are two communication channels at each stage. In cloud stage, the embedded system in the smart scale communicates with the server through two channels, Ethernet or 3G/LTE mobile communication. In agent stage, PCs and smart phones called agents communicate with the server also through Internet and 3G/LTE mobile communication. Compared with previous system in which the amount of the oyster produced in oyster workplaces could be monitored only at the console of only one oyster main server, developed system makes it possible to monitor the amount of produced oyster at several PCs (or smart phones). In addition to the amount of oysters produced at all oyster workplaces the environment of oyster workplaces such as temperature and humidity can be monitored on agents to judge the freshness. Two-stage architecture with multiple channels makes it possible to monitor the amount of oyster product and environment of the oyster workplace at any place in real time.

  • Background: This study investigated a safe and effective bolus dose and lockout time for patient-controlled sedation (PCS) with dexmedetomidine for dental treatments. The depth of sedation, vital signs, and patient satisfaction were investigated to demonstrate safety. Methods: Thirty patients requiring dental scaling were enrolled and randomly divided into three groups based on bolus doses and lockout times: group 1 (low dose group, bolus dose 0.05 ㎍/kg, 1-minute lockout time), group 2 (middle dose group, 0.1 ㎍/kg, 1-minute), and group 3 (high dose group, 0.2 ㎍/kg, 3-minute) (n = 10 each). ECG, pulse, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, end-tidal CO2, respiratory rate, and bispectral index scores (BIS) were measured and recorded. The study was conducted in two stages: the first involved sedation without dental treatment and the second included sedation with dental scaling. Patients were instructed to press the drug demand button every 10 s, and the process of falling asleep and waking up was repeated 1-5 times. In the second stage, during dental scaling, patients were instructed to press the drug demand button. Loss of responsiveness (LOR) was defined as failure to respond to auditory stimuli six times, determining sleep onset. Patient and dentist satisfaction were assessed before and after experimentation. Results: Thirty patients (22 males) participated in the study. Scaling was performed in 29 patients after excluding one who experienced dizziness during the first stage. The average number of drug administrations until first LOR was significantly lower in group 3 (2.8 times) than groups 1 and 2 (8.0 and 6.5 times, respectively). The time taken to reach the LOR showed no difference between groups. During the second stage, the average time required to reach the LOR during scaling was 583.4 seconds. The effect site concentrations (Ce) was significantly lower in group 1 than groups 2 and 3. In the participant survey on PCS, 8/10 in group 3 reported partial memory loss, whereas 17/20 in groups 1 and 2 recalled the procedure fully or partially. Conclusion: PCS with dexmedetomidine can provide a rapid onset of sedation, safe vital sign management, and minimal side effects, thus facilitating smooth dental sedation.

  • This paper presents development of a LNA operating at 1.71 ∼ 1.18 GHz used for a receiver of KOREA PCS base station and transponder. Using resistive decoupling circuits, a signal at low frequency is dissipated by a resistor. This design method increases the stability of the LNA and suitable for input stage matching. The LNA consists of low noise GaAs FET ATF-10136 and internally matched VNA-25. The LNA is fabricated with both the RF circuit and the self-bias circuits in aluminum housing. As a result, the characteristics of the LNA implemented here shows 30 dB in gain and 0.85 dB in noise figure.

  • Background: The aim of our present study was to compare quality of life (QoL) between intermediate-stage (BCLC-B) HCC patients who had undergone either liver resection or transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE). Materials and Methods: A total of 102 intermediate-stage HCC patients participated in our study, including 58 who had undergone liver resection and 44 who had undergone TACE. Baseline demographic characteristics, tumor characteristics, and long-term outcomes, such as tumor recurrence, were compared and analyzed. QoL was assessed using the Short Form (SF)-36 health survey questionnaire with the mental and physical component scales (SF-36 MCS and PCS). This questionnaire was filled out at HCC diagnosis and 1, 3, 6, 12, 24 months after surgery. Results: For the preoperative QoL evaluation, the 8 domains related to QoL were comparable between the two groups. The PCS and MCS scores were significantly decreased in both the TACE and resection groups at1 month after surgery, and this decrease was greater in the resection group. These scores were significantly lower in the resection group compared with the TACE group (P<0.05). However, these differences disappeared at 3 and 6 months following surgery. One year after surgery, the resection group showed much higher PCS scores than the TACE patients (P=0.018), and at 2 years after surgery, the PCS and MCS scores for the resection group were significantly higher than those for the TACE group (P<0.05). Eleven patients (19.0%) in the resection group and 17 (38.6%) in the TACE group suffered HCC recurrence (P<0.05). Univariate and multivariate analyses indicated that tumor recurrence (HR=1.211, 95%CI: 1.086-1.415, P=0.012) was a significant risk factor for poorpostoperative QoL in the HCC patients. Conclusions: Due to its effects on reducing HCC recurrence and improving long-term QoL, liver resection should be the first choice for the treatment of patients with intermediate-stage HCC.

  • In this paper, the PV system with a link to the commercial system needs some advantages like small capacity, high power factor, high reliability, low harmonic output, maximum power operation of solar cell, and low cost, etc. as well as the properties of inverter. To transfer the PV energy of photovoltaic power generation system to the system and load, it requires PCS in both directions. The purpose of this paper is to confirm the stable power supply through the load leveling by presenting the PCS considering ESS of photovoltaic power generation. In order to achieve these purpose, 5 step process of operation mode algorithm were used according to the solar insolation amount and load capacity and the controller for charging/ discharging control was designed. For bidirectional and effective energy transfer, the bidirectional converter and battery at DC-link stage were connected and the DC-link voltage and inverter output voltage through the interactive inverter were controlled. In order to prove the validity of the suggested system, the simulation using PSIM was performed and were reviewed for its validity and stability. The 3[kW] PCS was manufactured and its test was conducted in order to check this situation. In addition, the system characteristics suggested through the test results was verified and the PCS system presented in this study was excellent and stronger than that of before system.

  • In this paper, the design and imprlementation of dual-band power amplifier which is used as a critical part for mobile phone to be simultaneously working at a dual band, 800MHz CDAM and PCS frequency band is described. DC operating point of power FET is limited to Class-B to enable long talk time considering that the tyupical power range of CDMA phones in working is around 10 to Class-B to enable long talk time considering that the typical power range of CDMA phones in working is around 10 to 15dBm, i.e., liner range. The power amplifier which employs two GaAs FETs with good linerity at a low operating point has duplexer cuplexer circuit to separate two frequency bands at input and output stage. Electromagnetic analysis for via holes and coupling between narrow transmission lines is included to design a circuit. Moduld size of 0.96CC($22{\times}14.5{\times}3mm^3$) and maximum module current of 130mA at output power range, 10 to 15dBm are attained. The power amplifer module has achieved ACPR performance with 2 to 3dB marging from IS-95 requirement at output powers, 23.5dBm for PCS and 28dBm for 800MHz CDMA respectively.
