Visualization of Vortex-induced Mixing at the Liquid-liquid-gas 3-phase Contact Line (액체-액체-기체 3상 접촉선에서의 와류에 의한 혼합 가시화)

  • Although the motion of the three-phase contact line on a solid substrate has been extensively studied thus far, the understanding of the dynamics of the contact line of liquid/liquid/gas phases is far from complete. Here we deposit a drop of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) on water and HFE-7100 whose free surfaces are exposed to air to observe the flow field around the contact line. By combining the shadowgraph and high-speed imaging techniques, we find that vortices are spontaneously generated at the contact line, which grow in size with time. The flow is attributed to the Marangoni stress that pulls a liquid of lower-surface tension toward a liquid surface having a higher surface tension. However, it is not still clear why the entrained lower-surface-tension liquid should whirl rapidly beneath the contact line. We also visualize the flow by the particle image velocimetry (PIV) to find out that the rotational velocity reaches the order of 1 mm/s near the free surface.

  • The thesis has derived the formulas and computational algorithms useful for predicting and constraining the potential rises on the neutral line in 3-phase, 4-wire distribution line systems in the case of contact faults and single-line grounding faults. In addition it has suggested economically optimal designing conditions herewith of the distribution line systems in conduction with the potential restraining cost functions.

  • Most transmission lines pass through mountainous terrain and deep valleys, to avoid populated areas. Accordingly, the impact of climate changes, environmental conditions and system expansion have caused an increase in transmission line system fault rates. KEPCO has developed and applied phase-spacers to reduce contact faults between phases. Contact between phases represented 9% of total line faults before the devices were installed. Phase-spacers have reduced faults by up to 3.4% since the phase-spacers were installed in 2005. Also, recently developed devices provide additional economic benefits as they cost about a third of the price as similar devices introduced in foreign countries. Phase-spacers are an effective way to prevent phase contact accidents by maintaining physical space between phases. These spacers will be implemented in areas where contacts are likely to occur. They are expected to reduce accident rates and improve power quality.

Ohmic contact characteristics of polycrystalline 3C-SiC for high-temperature MEMS applications (초고온 MEMS용 다결정 3C-SiC의 Ohmic Contact 특성)

  • This paper describes the ohmic contact formation of polycrystalline 3C-SiC films deposited on thermally grown Si wafers. In this work, a TiW (titanium tungsten) film as a contact material was deposited by RF magnetron sputter and annealed with the vacuum process. The specific contact resistance (${\rho}_{c}$) of the TiW contact was measured by using the C-TLM (circular transmission line method). The contact phase and interfacial reaction between TiW and 3C-SiC at high-temperature as also analyzed by XRD (X-ray diffraction) and SEM (scanning electron microscope). All of the samples didn't show cracks of the TiW film and any interfacial reaction after annealing. Especially, when the sample was annealed at $800^{\circ}$ for 30 min., the lowest contact resistivity of $2.90{\times}10{\Omega}cm^{2}$ was obtained due to the improved interfacial adhesion. Therefore, the good ohmic contact of polycrystalline 3C-SiC films using the TiW film is very suitable for high-temperature MEMS applications.

  • In this study, a single-phase analysis of droplet slug with different contact angles was performed based on the visualization of experimental results. Droplet slug - flowing between gases in a hydrophobic mini channel - moves with a triple contact line without a gas liquid film on the wall. The results show that the rotational flow inside the droplet occurred; this was compared and verified with the results of two-phase analysis. The pressure field shows pressure rise at the front and rear ends. The effective length - the section that satisfies the laminar flow condition - became shorter as the droplet velocity increased. The Choi's correlation for the effective length agrees with this analysis results with a slight difference. This difference is judged as the difference in the contact angle of the slug model.

Influence of DCS Post flow on the Properties of $\textrm{WSi}_{x}$ Thin films (DCS Post Flow가 $\textrm{WSi}_{x}$ 박막 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this paper, we studied the physical and electrical characteristics of $\textrm{WSi}_{x}$ thin film with respect to the adoption of the DCS (dichlorosiliane) post flow and the variation of deposition temperature. XRD measurements show that as deposited thin film has a hexagonal structure regardless of deposition Process. However, we find that the phase of thin film has changed to a tetragonal structure after the heat treatment at $680^{\circ}C$. Adoption of DCS post flow and increment of deposition temperature result in the increments of Si/W composition ratio. These conditions also result in the increment of sheet resistance by the amount 3.0~4.2$\Omega$/$\square$, but give the tendency in the decrement of stress by 0.27~0.3 E10dyne/$\textrm{cm}^2$. We also find that the contact resistance of word line and bit line interconnection was decreased by the amount 5.33~16.43$\mu$$\Omega$-$\textrm{cm}^2$, when applying DCS post flow and increasing deposition temperature.

GaAs기판의 orientation에 따른 InGaP/InAlGaP 이종접합 태양전지의 소자 특성에 대한 연구

  • 현재까지 가장 높은 광전류 변환 효율을 나타내는 III-V 화합물 반도체의 다중접합 태양전지 대신 이보다 단순한 에피구조를 가진 단일셀 이종접합구조의 태양전지를 제안하였다. 이를 한국나노 기술원에서 MOCVD(Metalorganic Vapour Phase Epitaxy) 장비를 이용하여 에피구조를 성장하고 태양 전지를 제작해 그 특성을 조사하였다. 태양 전지는 서로 다른 orientation의 두 GaAs 기판에 각각 동일한 에피 구조로 성장되었다. GaAs 기판은 Si 도핑된 n-type 기판으로 (100) 표면이 <111>A 방향으로 2도 off 된 웨이퍼와 10도 off 된 웨이퍼가 사용되었다. 연구에서 시뮬레이션에 사용된 태양전지의 에피 구조는 맨 위 p-GaAs (p-contact 층), p-InAlP, p-InGaP의 광흡수층과 N-InAlGaP 층과 아래의 n-InAlP와 n-GaAs의 n-contact층으로 이루어져있다.태양전지는 $5mm{\times}5mm$의 면적을 가지고 있다. 그림 1은 전류-전압의 측정된 결과를 나타낸 그래프이다. 태양전지는 1 sun 조건하에서 probe를 이용해 측정되었다. 2도 off GaAs 기판 위에 성장시킨 태양전지에서는 3.7mA의 단락전류값이, 10도$^{\circ}$ off 인 샘플에서는 4.7mA의 단락전류값이 측정되었다. 반면에 전류-전압곡선으로부터 얻은 10도 off 인 태양전지의 직렬 저항값은 2도 off 인 태양전지의 약4배 정도로 나타났다. 이는 기판의 결정방향에 따라 태양전지의 내부 전하 transport에 차이가 있음을 나타낸다. TLM (Transmission Line Model) 방법에 의한 p-contact의 ohmic저항 측정에서도 이와 일치하는 결과를 얻었다.

Development of a Pressure Distribution Measurement System (압력분포 측정시스템의 개발)

  • Pressure distributions of the soft tissue are valuable for understanding and diagnosing the disease characteristics due to the mechanical loading. Our system measures dynamic pressure distributions in real-time under the general PC environment, and analyzes various foot disorders. Main features of the developed system are as follows: (1) With the resistive pressure sensor matrix of 40${\times}$40 cells, the data is sent to the PC with the maximum sampling rate of 40 frames/sec. (2) For each frame, contact area, pressure and force are analyzed by graphic forms. Thus, various biomechanical parameters are easily determined at specific areas of interests. (3) A certain stance phase can be chosen for the analysis from the continuous walking, and the detailed biomechanical analysis can be done according to an arbitrary line dividing anterior/posterior or medial/lateral plantar areas. (4) The center of pressure (COP) is calculated and traced from the pressure distribution data, and thus the movement of the COP is monitored in detail. A few experiments revealed that our system successfully measured the dynamic plantar distribution during normal walking.

  • In this paper, the details of electric traction voltages which are widely used for metro and mainline trains are presented. The problems encountered in catenaries, pressure of the pantograph pan, catenary contact cross sectional area, materials etc are well covered. Catenary height from the rail for main line, bridges, sheds etc is discussed. The catenary running details and switching of one catenary to another are explained. The dead zones in 3 phase grid as well as in DC are presented here. The pantograph structure, blades, shoes etc. for AC/DC EMUs are dealt. The schematic diagram for electrification systems used for railways are given and explained with typical electrical parameters of Indian Railways.

The Electromagnetic and Thermal Properties of the Mn-Zn Ferrite for the Power Line Communication

  • The electromagnetic properties and thermal behavior of Mn-Zn ferrite cores for the blocking filter of PLC application were investigated as the function of additives. The highest density and permeability were 4.98 g/㎤ and 8,221, respectively and were obtained to the specimen with composition of MnO 24 mol%, ZnO 25 mol% and Fe$_2$O$_3$51 mol%, added MoO$_3$ of 400 ppm, SiO$_2$ of 100 ppm, and CaO of 200 ppm. The uniform grains were organized, and the microstructures were compacted due to reduction of pores in the specimen. The permeability was increased up to 13,904 as the temperature of specimen increased to 110。C. However, it was decreased precipitously under 100 over 110。C. The exothermic behavior was observed in the frequency range from 1 kHz to 1 MHz, and the maximum temperature of specimen was 102。C at 1 MHz. In the consequence, the Mn-Zn ferrite core developed in this research will maintain the stable electromagnetic properties since the temperature of ferrite core rose to 93 。C in the range of 100 kHz to 450 kHz bandwidth qualified for PLC. The blocking filters were designed for single phase and three phases using the in-line and non-contact core. The best attenuation ratios of -46.46 dB and -73.9 dB were measured in the range of 100 kHz to 450 kHz bandwidth, respectively.
