  • An experimental study was carried out in a three-dimensional cubic cavity driven by 2-dimensional plane Poiseuille flow for three kinds of Reynolds number, $10^4$, 3 $\times$ $10^4$ and 5 $\times$ $10^4$ based on the cavity width and cavity inlet mean flow velcoity. Instant simultaneous velocity vectors at whole field were measured by 2-D PIV system. Laser based illumination and two-frame grey-level cross correlation algorithm are adopted. Severe unsteady flow fluctuation within the cavity are remarkable at above Re = 3 $\times$ $10^4$ Reynolds numbers and sheared mixing layer phenomena are also found at the region where inlet driving Poiseuille flow is collided with the clock-wise rotating main primary vortex at upper center area. Instant velocity profiles reveal that deformed forced vortex formation is observed throughout the separate two areas.

  • This paper investigates geometric effect of landmarks on three-dimensional navigation error in landmark-based vision navigation systems. Dilution of precision is derived for landmark measurement error on the focal plane of the camera and separately expressed in position DOP and attitude DOP. Values of DOP are observed for various configurations of landmarks.

  • A novel design of a simple circular ring with open-ended monopole antenna for wireless local area network (WLAN) applications is proposed in this article. The proposed antenna consists of an open-ended circular ring and $50-{\Omega}$ microstrip feed-line. The proposed antenna is capable of generating two separate resonant modes with good impedance-matching conditions. A prototype of the proposed antenna is designed, fabricated, and measured. Acceptable agreement between the measurement and simulation results is achieved. Experimental results show that the proposed antenna has operating bandwidths of 1.99-3.04 GHz and 5.08-6.1 GHz with a return loss of less than -10 dB, covering the required bandwidths of the 2.4/5.2/5.8-GHz WLAN standards. This is a microstrip antenna for IEEE 802.11a/b wireless local area networks applications. Meanwhile, the two-dimensional (2D) radiation patterns and three-dimensional (3D) gain performance of the antenna are also observed and discussed.

  • A method for measuring three-dimensional turbulent flows by the hot-wire anemometer is introduced. Mojolla's method using the X-type probe is adopted and modified for the slantwire probe without the linearizer. The probe is aligned with specified angles to the given uniform flow and the shear layer to verify the measuring errors due to the three-dimensionality and the turbulence level. Errors in the measurements of mean velocities and Reynolds stresses increase with the degree of three dimensionality in the flow. The incoming flow angle of 20 degree seems to be the limit of reasonable flow measurements. But there still appear large data scatterings in Reynolds shear stresses.

  • We present a method of using one-dimensional dielectric multilayer structures for designing terahertz frequency spreading filters. The interference of terahertz pulses in these structures composed of alternating weak and strong refractive materials allows design of well-separated THz frequency components within a modulation-limited THz spectral envelope. The design characteristics of these coarse THz combs are limited by the saturation effect and also by the deformation of the THz pulse time-traveling within the structure. The details of the designed THz waveform synthesis from these THz multilayer spectral filters are verified by experiments using time-domain terahertz pulsed spectroscopy.

  • The study of Web GUI(Graphic User Information) system for Virtual Reality System is mainly performed on effective methodology which transform real world data to computing world data. MGIS(Marine Geographic Information System) has its own target on reliable data service by acquisition of geometric information using accurate measurement and graphical visualization. This type of raw data visualization can be built without software tools, yet is incredibly useful for interpreting and communicating data. Even simple visualizations can aid in the interpretation of complex 3D relationships that are frequently encountered in the geosciences. The Virtual Reality Modeling Language provides an easy way for geoscientists to construct complex visualizations that can be viewed with free software. This study propose a three dimensional Web GUI system using MGIS-based three dimensional data models and virtual imaging system. Finally, we design a Web GUI system integrating above data models.

  • A coordinate measuring machine (CMM) is a computer-controlled measuring device that uses a probe to obtain measurements on a manufactured part's surface. CMM's have been very popular over traditional hard gauges due to their flexibility, accuracy, and ease of automated inspection. This paper considers the use of a CMM for the inspection of gears. We compare the inspection capability of a CMM and that of a gear-specific measuring machine. The result of this paper may benefit gear manufacturing companies in their dimensional quality assurance activities, especially for special type gears and for large-scale gears which are not measurable by gear-specific measuring machines.

  • We report on the enhancement of cathode-luminescence in an $In_xGa_{1-x}N/In_yGa_{1-y}$ green light emitting diode structure using two-dimensional photonic crystals. The square lattice arrays of photonic crystals with diameter/periodicity of 200/500 nm were fabricated by electron beam lithography. Inductively coupled plasma dry etching was used to etch and define photonic crystals. Three samples with different etch depths, i.e., 170, 95, and 65 nm, were constructed. Field emission scanning electron microscope analysis shows that air holes of photonic crystal structure with inverted-cone shapes were fabricated after dry etching. Cathode-luminescence measurement indicated that up to 30-fold enhancement of cathode-luminescence intensity has been achieved.

  • Three dimensional CAD data viewer helps a user to view and use many different types of CAD data without having costly programs that produced them loaded on their computers. A viewer for standard data formats such as STEP and IGES is more useful since most of the CAD systems provide translators for them. We developed a 3D CAD viewer for STEP AP203 solid and assembly data. In addition to the standard shading and assembly tree display, functions for 3D markups and measurement of distance and angles were implemented.

  • We investigated the three dimensional turbulent flow characteristic around a sidewall-mounted rectangular block using a laboratory flume experiment. The experiment was conducted in the flume which is 18m long and 0.9m wide, and a rectangular block that is 0.3m wide and a height of 0.4m and 0.004m thick is mounted on a sidewall of the flume. Velocity data were collected using Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter(ADV) for the flow rate conditions : $0.0528m^3/s$. The time-averaged velocity and water depth data were analyzed to examine the three-dimensional flow patterns downstream of the rectangular block.
