A Design and Implementation of Worker Motion 3D Visualization Module Based on Human Sensor

  • In this paper, we design and implement a worker motion 3D visualization module based on human sensors. The three key modules that make up this system are Human Sensor Implementation, Data Set Creation, and Visualization. Human Sensor Implementation provides the functions of setting and installing the human sensor locations and collecting worker motion data through the human sensors. Data Set Creation offers functions for converting and storing motion data, creating near real-time worker motion data sets, and processing and managing sensor and motion data sets. Visualization provides functions for visualizing the worker's 3D model, evaluating motions, calculating loads, and managing large-scale data. In worker 3D model visualization, motion data sets (Skeleton & Position) are synchronized and mapped to the worker's 3D model, and the worker's 3D model motion animation is visualized by combining the worker's 3D model with analysis results. The human sensor-based worker motion 3D visualization module designed and implemented in this paper can be widely utilized as a foundational technology in the smart factory field in the future.

Development of 3D Terrain Visualization for Navigation Simulation using a Unity 3D Development Tool

  • 3D visualization of navigation simulation is to visualize the environment conditions (e.g. nearby ships, dynamic characteristics, environment, terrain, etc) for any users on ships at sea. Realistic 3D visualization enables the users to be immersed to it and guarantees the reliability of the simulation. In particular, terrain visualization contains many virtual objects, so it is time and cost-intensive for object modelling. This paper proposes a 3D terrain visualization method that can be realized in a short time and with low cost by using the Unity 3D development tool. The 3D terrain visualization system requires bathymetric and elevation terrains, and Aids to Navigations (AtoNs) to be realized. It also needs to include 3D visualization objects including bridges, buildings and port facilities for more accurate simulation. Bathymetric and AtoN elements are acquired from ENC, and the elevation element is acquired from SRTM v4.1 digital elevation chart database developed by NASA. Then, the bathymetric and elevation terrains are generated, and the satellite images are superposed by using this terrain information. The longitudinal and latitudinal information of the AtoNs are converted to the 3-axis information to position the AtoN locations. The 3D objects such as bridges, buildings and port facilities are generated and the terrain visualization is completed. The proposed method realizes more realistic 3D terrain visualization of Busan Port.

User Preference and Workload Changes According to Information Visualization Methods (정보표현방식에 따른 사용자 호의도 및 업무부하량 변화)

  • Despite the wide range of information and engineering visualization techniques available, studies in investigating the effectiveness of the techniques in visualization has been rare. The typical visualization techniques were CAD, 2D and 3D computer graphics, and virtual environment (VE) that use 3D displays of 3D. space. The objects of this study is to analyze the user preferences and workload changes according to the visualization methods of engineering drawings such as 2D CAD, 2D computer graphics, 3D computer graphics, and augmented reality which is a variation of VEs. The results showed that users preferred 3D visualization techniques to 2D visualization techniques, though there were no workloads differences. Furthermore, the 3D perspective of AR which analogies the real world could facilitate the interpretation of engineering drawings.

3D Visualization Approaches for Evaluating Location Solution Performances (시설물 접근성 분석을 위한 GIS의 3차원 시각화 기법 적용)

  • This paper discusses the design of location optimization visualization and feasibility of 3 dimensional visualization techniques. In generic GIS visualization of location analysis, 2 dimensional visualization techniques have been used to map location elements and model solution, such as displaying demand and supply points, drawing connecting lines(e. g. spider line) of optimal locations to their demands, and representing density of location variations. Nevertheless, current GIS and location analysis literatures have little attentions in 3D visualization applications for location optimization problems. Previous research has been neglected 3D visualization of solution performances and its evaluation of solution quality. Consequently, this paper demonstrates potential benefits of 3D visualization techniques and its appropriate GIS applications for location optimization analysis. The visualization effectiveness of 3D approaches is examined in terms of spatial accessibility, and solution performance of optimal location models is evaluated. Finally, this paper proposes extensive 3D visualization perspectives for location analysis and GIS research as a further research agenda.

  • In this paper, our effort to apply 3-D Virtual Reality system for stereoscopic visualization of flow data is briefly described. This study is an extension of our previous and on-going research efforts to develop DATA(Data Analysis and Visualization Application) program, which is a data visualization program developed by using Qt as GUI development environment and OpenGL as graphic library. The program is developed upon the framework of object-oriented programming and it was originally developed by using Qt 3.3.3 environment. In this research the program is converted into a Qt 4.3.3-compatible version, and this new version is developed on Visual Studio 2005. And to achieve a stereoscopic viewing capability, two graphic windows are used to render its own viewing image for the lift and right eye respectively. These two windows are merged into one image using 3D monitor and the viewers can see the data visualization results with stereoscopic depth effects by using polarizing glasses. In this paper three dimensional data visualization with stereoscopic technique combined with 3D Monitor is demonstrated, and the current achievement would be a good start-up for further development of low-cost high-quality stereoscopic data visualization system.

  • This paper proposes 3D visualization method of compound knowledge which will be able to identify and search easily compound knowledge objects based the multidimensional relationship. For this, we structurized a compound knowledge with link and node which become the semantic network. and we suggested 3D visualization method using SOM. Also, to arrange compound knowledge from 3D space and to provide the chance of realistic and intuitional information retrieval to the user, we proposed compound knowledge 3D clustering methods using object similarity. Compound knowledge 3D visualization and clustering using SOM will be the optimum method to appear context of compound knowledge and connectivity in space-time.

  • Visualization of 2D and 3D data, which arises from some scientific phenomena, physical model or mathematical formula, in the form of curve or surface view is one of the important topics in Computer Graphics. The problem gets critically important when data possesses some inherent shape feature. For example, it may have positive feature in one instance and monotone in the other. This paper is concerned with the solution of similar problems when data has convex shape and its visualization is required to have similar inherent features to that of data. A rational cubic function [5] has been used for the review of visualization of 2D data. After that it has been generalized for the visualization of 3D data. Moreover, simple sufficient constraints are made on the free parameters in the description of rational bicubic functions to visualize the 3D convex data in the view of convex surfaces.

Method for 3D Visualization of Sound Data (사운드 데이터의 3D 시각화 방법)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide a method to visualize the sound data to the three-dimensional image. The visualization of the sound data is performed according to the algorithm set after production of the text-based script that form the channel range of the sound data. The algorithm consists of a total of five levels, including setting sound channel range, setting picture frame for sound visualization, setting 3D image unit's property, extracting channel range of sound data and sound visualization, 3D visualization is performed with at least an operation signal input by the input device such as a mouse. With the sound files with the amount an animator can not finish in the normal way, 3D visualization method proposed in this study was highlighted that the low-cost, highly efficient way to produce creative artistic image by comparing the working time the animator with a study presented method and time for work. Future research will be the real-time visualization method of the sound data in a way that is going through a rendering process in the game engine.

Development of a 3D real-time visualization system for ship handling simulators using an open source 3D graphics engine (공개형 3D 그래픽 엔진을 활용한 선박 운항 시뮬레이터용 실시간 3D 가시화 시스템 개발)

  • A ship handling simulator is popular means of preventing marine accidents caused by human error. It can also be used to train navigators. A real-time 3D visualization system, a component of a ship handling simulator, is an important component, as realistic and intuitive image generation play an essential role in improving the effects of education using ship handling simulators. This paper discusses the design of a new real-time 3D visualization system based on an open source 3D graphics engine as well as its implementation. The developed real-time 3D visualization system satisfies the operational requirements derived in terms of visualization functionalities, reuse of legacy graphic data, and interoperability with other systems constituting a ship handling simulator. This system has an architecture in which new functionalities are easily added.

3D Visualization of Discrete Event Simulation and Its Applications in Virtual Manufacturing

  • This paper presents a new approach to create 3D visualization from discrete simulation results. This approach connects discrete event simulation directly to 3D animation with its novel methods that analyze and convert discrete simulation results into animation events to trigger 3D animation. In addition, it constructs a 3D animation framework for the visualization of discrete simulation results. This framework supports the reuse of both the existing 3D animation objects and behavior components, and allows the rapid development of new 3D animation objects by users with no special knowledge in computer graphics. This approach has been implemented with the software component technology. As an application in virtual manufacturing, visualizations of an electronics assembly factory are also provided in the paper to demonstrate the performance of this new approach.
