Additive manufacturing(AM) can create complex shapes directly in 3D CAD models with internal geometry compared to conventional subtraction manufacturing. AM technology has the advantage of adopting various materials as well as the reduction of material. However, the high cost of AM is still a significant barrier preventing the wider adoption of AM in industries. This paper analyzes the technical application cases for solving these entry barriers and proposes a bi-metal 3D printing technology as an anticipated application to overcome the difficulty. The paper investigates the complications for current 3D metal printing technology to conduct bi-metal 3D printing and addresses ongoing solution research based on laser technology.
This paper proposes a framework of engineering education for product development processes based on product data management (PDM) software and 3D printing. The PDM software supports the product development process-oriented educational coursework, collaborative team projects and project-based learning environment. The 3D printing supports the prototyping step in the product development process and helps participants consider physical realization of their designs during the product design and development phases. The framework was implemented in an introductory course for engineering students to product design and development, and author found that it is important to support rich communication among participants including lecturers, teaching assistants and students to enhance the quality of education and to overcome the burden of learning various computer-aided tools and 3D printing techniques needed for the framework.

Recently, various composite materials for additive manufacturing are interested to expand the application field of 3D printing. 3D printing technique was mainly developed using polymer, and ceramic materials for 3D printing are still in the early stage of research due to the requirement of high solid content and post treatment process. In this study, silica particles with various diameters were surface treated with silane coupling agent, and synthesized as silica composite with photopolymer to apply DLP 3D printing process. DLP is an additive manufacturing technology, which has high accuracy and applicability of various composite materials. The rheological behavior of silica composite was analyzed with various solid contents. After DLP 3D printing was performed using silica composites, the printing accuracy of the 3D printed specimen was less than about 3 % to compare with digital data and he bending strength was 34.3 MPa at the solid content of 80 wt%.
Using the 3D printing method in the product manufacturing is a very innovative and useful technology. However, in the field of jewelry, it is a limited technology used only in a field of manufacturing process. To overcome this limitations in the jewelry production process, most popular and easy 3D printing method was selected, and the printing time and condition was limited. In this study, to find out the 3D printing method applicability to jewelry work manufacturing, the prototypes through casting and non-casting methods were completed and compared. As a result, the FDM printing method has a very positive advantage in terms of cost and time, but there is a disadvantage that the layered structure is not erased on the surface and the completeness of the surface forming is poor due to the residue of the filament generated during the printing process. The DLP printing method has the advantage that the surface treatment is even and completion is high, while the cost and time are inefficient. However, both printing methods were found to be suitable for the use of jewelry manufacturing, and if the efficient printing method was selected for the design of the jewelry in the future, better work research could be conducted.

3D printing is making a huge difference to existing industries and is beginning to be applied in the field of construction. 3D printing construction differs from existing construction techniques. Therefore, new construction processes need to be developed. In particular, the accurate construction duration is linked directly to a successful project. A method for estimating the construction duration for 3D printing construction is necessary. In this study, a 3D printing construction process and duration estimation method were derived to prepare for the future introduction of 3D printing in construction. The scope of the study was assumed to be 3D printing equipment capable of pouring concrete, and limited to a frame structure construction. The developed construction period estimation method was applied to the virtual test model. As a result of applying the test model, the construction duration was shortened by approximately 50% compared to the existing construction technique. The method of estimating the construction period developed in this study can be applied to 3D printing constructions in the future and help establish a business plan.
PURPOSE. This study is to evaluate the internal fit of the crown manufactured by CAD/CAM milling method and 3D printing method. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The master model was fabricated with stainless steel by using CNC machine and the work model was created from the vinyl-polysiloxane impression. After scanning the working model, the design software is used to design the crown. The saved STL file is used on the CAD/CAM milling method and two types of 3D printing method to produce 10 interim crowns per group. Internal discrepancy measurement uses the silicon replica method and the measured data are analyzed with One-way ANOVA to verify the statistic significance. RESULTS. The discrepancy means (standard deviation) of the 3 groups are $171.6\;(97.4){\mu}m$ for the crown manufactured by the milling system and 149.1 (65.9) and $91.1\;(36.4){\mu}m$, respectively, for the crowns manufactured with the two types of 3D printing system. There was a statistically significant difference and the 3D printing system group showed more outstanding value than the milling system group. CONCLUSION. The marginal and internal fit of the interim restoration has more outstanding 3D printing method than the CAD/CAM milling method. Therefore, the 3D printing method is considered as applicable for not only the interim restoration production, but also in the dental prosthesis production with a higher level of completion.
This study examined the applicability of digital technologies based on three-dimensional(3D) scanning, modeling, and printing to the restoration of damaged artifacts. First, 3D close-range scanning was utilized to make a high-resolution polygon mesh model of a roof-end tile with a missing part, and a 3D virtual restoration of the missing part was conducted using a haptic interface. Furthermore, the virtual restoration model was printed out with a 3D printer using the material extrusion method and a PLA filament. Then, the additive structure of the printed output with a scanning electron microscope was observed and its shape accuracy was analyzed through 3D deviation analysis. It was discovered that the 3D printing output of the missing part has high dimensional accuracy and layer thickness, thus fitting extremely well with the fracture surface of the original roof-end tile. The convergence of digital virtual restoration based on 3D scanning and 3D printing technology has helped in minimizing contact with the artifact and broadening the choice of restoration materials significantly. In the future, if the efficiency of the virtual restoration modeling process is improved and the material stability of the printed output for the purpose of restoration is sufficiently verified, the usability of 3D digital technologies in cultural heritage restoration will increase.

In hot forming process, the dies in which excessive worn or crack occurs is reused after repair. Generally hot forming dies are recycled through a welding repair method. Welding repair methods are highly dependent on the skills of engineer. It causes process defects such as dimensional defects and structural defects. Recently, the metal 3D printing method has been applied to the repair of used dies. The aim of this study is to evaluate the wear characteristics of AISI H13 tool steel repaired by 3D printing method. Three kinds of wear specimens were fabricated by using 3D printing, welding, and initial material. A pin-on-disk wear test was carried out to evaluate the wear characteristics. From the result of wear test, the wear characteristics of 3D printing method was superior to that of the welded material, and was similar to that of the initial material.

The self-weight of the 3D printing concrete increases with increasing printing height. Therefore, the lower layer must be hardened within a suitable time to secure continuous printing performance. In particular, the hardening speed of concrete is slow in the winter season when the temperature was low. Hence, the early strength of 3D printing concrete requires improvement. In domestic and international literature, cases of increasing the early strength of concrete using inorganic chemical additives, such as amine-based, nitrate-based, sodium-based, and calcium-based, have been reported. In this study, early strength improvement-type additive samples (amine-based, nitrate-based, sodium-based) were prepared, and their performance was evaluated. When using a nitrate-based additive, the early strength was increased significantly in a 10 ℃ environment. In addition, it was possible to secure a higher early strength than the existing 3D printing concrete mixed at 20 ℃.
Recently, 3D printing technology, which is suitable for small-volume production of many varieties, has become considered a key manufacturing technology in the 4th industrial revolution. However, the nature of 3D printing technology means it is not yet able to be applied to traditional textiles due to Fabric Flexibility. The aim of this study is to investigate Textile Structural Design by finding the optimal yarn thickness for Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) 3D printed structures on geogrid dobby woven fabric that gives the optimal flexibility and tensile strength in the final product. The test results for tensile load strength of the 3D printed test samples, using 1.0mm, 0.8mm, 0.6mm and 0.4mm yarn thicknesses, showed that all were found to be above 250N, this higher than the tensile strength of 180N that is recommended for textile products. Based on these results, the four dobby structural patterns with 3D printing produced had four yarn thicknesses: 1.0mm, 0.8mm, 0.6mm, and 0.4mm. The thinner the yarn, the more flexible the fabric; as such the optimal conditions to produce SLS-based 3D printed textiles with suitable strength and flexibility used a thickness of yarn in the range of 0.4mm to 0.6mm.
