  • Recently, the virtual construction system in which project participants efficiently share and control the information throughout the life-cycle of construction project using 3D object models is being developed all over the world. In this paper, a design of interface between 3D object model of structures and structural analysis system that is essential for the analysis and design of civil structures in the virtual space is treated. The relation parametric modeling technique that is needed to make the 3D object models and the construction method of product breakdown structure(PBS) that considers the several parameters for the structural analysis are presented. PBS is built so that it is possible to extract needed attribute information from 3D object model and to apply it to the structural analysis. Design methodology for interface program is proposed that several numerical values determined by the cooperative work same as structural analysis are delivered to 3D object models without additional work. An interface program between 3D object models and structural analysis system developed based on the proposed method would be effectively used to develop virtual construction system.

  • We previously developed and presented the 3D ion implantation simulation code, TRICSI. In this paper, we performed the multiple implants into (100) silicon substrate with our recently enhanced version. Our results for the multiple implants were compared with the previously published SIMS data and obtained the good agreements. In this paper the channeling behaviour of implanted impurity and the damage accumulation are analyzed and discussed in the simple 3D structure, named the Hole structure which has a rectangular implant window.

  • In case of applying BIM method to the civil engineering of irregularly shaped structure, BIM method is recognized to have relatively high construction productivity. In this paper, we developed quantity calculation algorithms applying BIM method to NATM tunnel construction method and implemented BIM based 3D-BIM Modeling Quantity Calculation. The results showed that BIM-based method has high reliabilty in structure work in which errors occurred only in the range between 0.00% and -1.45%. On the other hand, BIM method applied to earth work showed great error range of -19.78% to 35.30%. So the benefit and applicability of BIM method in civil engineering were confirmed. In addition, routine method for the quantity of earth work has negligible error as in the case of structure work. But, rock type's quantity calculation showed significant errors so that the reliability of 2D-based volume calculation is problematic. It may thus be concluded that 3D-BIM is more reliable than the routine method in estimating the quantity of earth work. Considering the reliability and merits in the stage of its design, construction and maintenance levels, the application of BIM to civil engineering works is recommended.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a digital textbook on 'structure and contraction mechanism of skeletal muscle' with the learning model for biomimicry-based convergence. The unit of 'structure and contraction mechanism of skeletal muscle' is a part of Life Science I in high school. The convergence learning model was designed with three phases of biomimicry-based convergence (Exploration-Design-Implementation) including 3D modeling & printing. The developed digital textbook was composed of 8 sessions which contains the following learning contents : Exploration of skeletal muscle, creative designing of skeletal muscle using sketch application and 3D modeling, convergent implementing of the designed using 3D printing, exploration of muscle contraction, creative designing of muscle contraction using sketch application and 3D modeling, and convergent implementing of the designed using 3D printing. Each session is also involved in the contents of gallery widgets, media widgets, keynote widgets, sketch widgets, the cloud, polling widgets, and review widgets for interactive and mobile learning. After administering the developed digital textbook to 20 high school students, it was shown a positive effectiveness on life science learning for high school students. Moreover, the digital textbook was evaluated as to promote student's abilities on creative designs and implementation related to biomimicry-based convergence. The digital textbook was also shown a favorable response on students' interest and self-directed learning on life science.

  • In designing fuzzy model, we encounter a major difficulty in the identification of an optimized fuzzy rule base, which is traditionally achieved by a tedious-and-error process. This paper presents an approach to automatic design of optimal fuzzy rule bases for modeling using evolutionary programming. Evolutionary programming evolves simultaneously the structure and the parameter of fuzzy rule base a given task. To check the effectiveness of the suggested approach, 3 examples for modeling are examined, and the performance of the identified models are demonstrated.

  • Vessel boundary detection and modeling is a difficult but a necessary task in analyzing the mechanics of inflammation and the structure of the microvasculature. In this paper we present a method of analyzing the structure by means of an active contour model(using GVF Snake) for vessel boundary detection and 3D reconstruction. For this purpose we used a virtual vessel model and produced a phantom model. From these phantom images we obtained the contours of the vessel by GVF Snake and then reconstructed a 3D structure by using the coordinates of snakes.

  • This paper describes the result of study on measurement of displacement of structure by means of non-contacting method, close-range digital photogrammetry using digital camera. To apply close-range digital photogrammetry to displacement measurement of structure, correction of lens distortion that interferes geometrical analysis has been carried out and then measuring displacement was performed on load regulated-rahmen. For enhanced applicability of displacement measurement, MIDAS which is a structural analysis program was used for modeling and the result was taken from comparative analysis. As a result of the study, it is showed that close-range digital photogrammetry could supplement several weaknesses of LVDT and cable displacement meter and, especially, economy in the perspective of measuring time could be realized. Close-range digital photogrammetry using digital camera can be applied to the area where requires visual analysis such as 3D modeling of structure, profile replication of measurement of structure as well as measurement of displacement of structure.

  • Complexity in construction projects has increased over the years, which has led to an increase in the number of organizations involved in those projects. In today's environment, these organizations operate in different parts of the world requiring their personnel to be geographically distributed. So, these organizations construct and utilize the information systems. However, looking into this systems' content, those use two-dimensional planes such as pictures and drawings to check the scheduling etc., which cause the defect of communication and problems such as change order. Accordingly, this study introduces the Web 3Ds and 3D Libraries, intends to present the effect on modeling of three-dimensional work structure using Web 3D in cyberspace.

  • The shipbuilding process is changing due to changes in the development environment and technological requirements for military ships. This would also hold true for a submarine, because its shipbuilding process includes complicated design and construction conditions. System improvement efforts for the design and construction of military ships have continued with the goal of overcoming these conditions. At present, the Korea Navy is developing a 3,000 ton-class Korean type submarine, and its design is progressing by the introduction of a full 3D-ship CAD system. Although the 3D modeling system was introduced for effective design realization through the introduction of collaborative design and active utilization of M&S (modeling and simulation), the introduction effects are not yet generally obvious, according to the characteristics of ship design. The present paper discusses the collaborative environment for developing a submarine to enhance this. This paper proposes the architecture and data structure of a system for realizing collaborative design and discusses a case system developed on the basis of this.

  • As microeletronics technology continues to progress, there is also a continuous demand on highly integration and miniaturization of systems. For example, it is desirable to package several integrated circuits together in multilayer structure, such as multichip modules, to achieve higher levels of compactness and higher performance. Passive components (i.e., capacitors, resistors, and inductors) are very important for many MCM applications. In addition, the low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) process has considerable potential for embedding passive components in a small area at a low cost. In this paper, we investigate a method of statistically modeling integrated passive devices from just a small number of test structures. A set of LTCC inductors is fabricated and their scattering parameters (5-parameters) are measured for a range of frequencies from 50MHz to 5GHz. An accurate model for each test structure is obtained by using a building block based modeling methodology and circuit parameter optimization using the HSPICE circuit simulator.
