Water Oxidation Mechanism for 3d Transition Metal Oxide Catalysts under Neutral Condition

  • Electrochemical water splitting to produce hydrogen energy is regarded as a promising energy conversion process for its environmentally friendly nature. To improve cell efficiency, the development of efficient water oxidation catalysts is essentially demanded. For several decades, 3d transition metal oxides have been intensively investigated for their high activity, good durability and low-cost. This review covers i) recent progress on 3d transition metal oxide electrocatalysts and ii) the reaction mechanism of oxygen evolving catalysis, specifically focused on the proposed pathways for the O-O bond formation step.

Numerical analysis of fracture mechanisms for porous calcium phosphate (다공성 칼슘포스파이트에 대한 파괴분석)

  • In this study, the fracture strength for fracture mechanism porous calcium phosphate made from sintered with ${\beta}$-tricalcium phosphate obtained by wet precipitation procedure is analyzed using finite element method and experiment measurement. First, three $3{\times}3{\times}3mm^3$ and $5{\times}5{\times}5mm^3$ specimens are prepared and tomographic images of one $5{\times}5{\times}5mm^3$ specimen are obtained by micro focus X-ray CT. The compression tests using the specimens are carried out to measure the elastic modulus and fracture strength to analyze the fracture mechanism of porous calcium phosphate specimen. The tomographic images are reconstructed by 3D reconstruction program. The finite elements are directly built up in the reconstructed specimen. The numerical simulation for the compression tests is performed using the element. The mechanism of calcium phosphate of simulation are obtained by the compression tests using there cylindric specimen of height 19.5 mm and diameter 10 mm. From the results, the applicability of porous calcium phosphate is evaluated to care fracture and vacant bone of a patient as the reinforcement material.

  • Due to the recent Corona 19 outbreak, camping culture is rapidly drawing attention from many people. Convective heating devices, which many campers use during winter, have the temperature stratification problem. To solve this problem, various power circulators are being used. Several non-powered circulators are also on sale, but the direction of the circulator is designed to be at the right angle relative to the convection heating mechanism and the circulator does not properly play the role of air circulation. To solve this problem, a 3D printer is used to design a non-powered circulator in the same direction as the convection heating mechanism. Electricity is generated without power using Peltier element and ceramic paper and the circulator is produced to withstand heat using HTPLA-CF filament. This study presents a method to solve the temperature stratification problem through efficient convective circulation. In addition, the purpose of this study is to manufacture products at a lower cost by using a 3D printer.

Development of SMA-based Wireframe Structure for 2D Shape Display (2차원 형상 제시를 위한 SMA에 기반한 와이어프레임 구조의 개발)

  • This paper proposes a novel method of 2 dimensional shape display. Shape displays allow us to feel tile actual volume of the object, unlike conventional 2D visual displays of 3D objects. The proposed method employs a wireframe structure to present 2D or 3D objects. The wireframe is composed of small units driven by shape memory alloy (SMA) actuators. The drive unit is analogous to the agonist-antagonist system of animal musculoskeletal systems, where the SMA actuators serve as agonist and antagonist muscles. The force in the SMA actuator is controlled by electrical current. The drive unit is equipped with the locking mechanism so that it can sustain the external force exerted by the user as well as the own weight of the wireframe structure. By controlling the current into the SMA actuator and locking mechanism, we can control the angle of the drive unit. A chain of drive units enables presentation of 2 dimensional objects. 3 dimensional presentations are possible by collecting the chains of drive units.

Development of a Digital Textbook on 'Structure and Contraction Mechanism of Skeletal Muscle' with the Learning Model for Biomimicry-Based Convergence (생체모방 기반 융합 학습 모델을 적용한 '골격근의 구조와 수축'에 대한 디지털 교재 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a digital textbook on 'structure and contraction mechanism of skeletal muscle' with the learning model for biomimicry-based convergence. The unit of 'structure and contraction mechanism of skeletal muscle' is a part of Life Science I in high school. The convergence learning model was designed with three phases of biomimicry-based convergence (Exploration-Design-Implementation) including 3D modeling & printing. The developed digital textbook was composed of 8 sessions which contains the following learning contents : Exploration of skeletal muscle, creative designing of skeletal muscle using sketch application and 3D modeling, convergent implementing of the designed using 3D printing, exploration of muscle contraction, creative designing of muscle contraction using sketch application and 3D modeling, and convergent implementing of the designed using 3D printing. Each session is also involved in the contents of gallery widgets, media widgets, keynote widgets, sketch widgets, the cloud, polling widgets, and review widgets for interactive and mobile learning. After administering the developed digital textbook to 20 high school students, it was shown a positive effectiveness on life science learning for high school students. Moreover, the digital textbook was evaluated as to promote student's abilities on creative designs and implementation related to biomimicry-based convergence. The digital textbook was also shown a favorable response on students' interest and self-directed learning on life science.

Electronic excitation energy quenching of PPD by $CCl_4$ in different solvents

  • The electronic excitationenergy quenching of 2, 5-diphenyl-1, 3, 4-oxadiazole (PPD) by Carbon tetrachloride ($CCl_4$) in different solvents viz, n-hexane, n-heptane, toluene, benzene, cyclohexane, 1, 4- dioxane has been carried out at room temperature to understand the role of quenching mechanism. The Stern-Volmer plots have been found to be linear. As probability of quenching per encounter 'p' is less than unity, and the activation energy for quenching '$E_a$' is greater than the activation energy of diffusion '$E_d$', it is inferred that the fluorescence quenching mechanism is not due to material diffusion alone.

  • By surface structure and X-ray topographic observation, growth mechanism of NAB single crystal grown by TSSG technique using a BaB4O7 flux was studied. Surface structure of grown crystals were investigated by optical microscope. Growth history and crystal defects included within grown crystal were investigated using X-ray topography. The {001} faces were grown by 2-D nucleation growth. As decreasing cooling rate, growth mechanism of {111} and {11} was changed from 2-D nucleation growth to the growth by screw dislocation. Only surface striations developed parallel to a-axis were observed on {010} faces. Growth sector of NAB crystals were divided into {001}, {111}, {010}, {021}, {11}. The inclusion which was usually trapped between {001} faces was investigated.

Kinetics and Mechanism of the Anilinolysis of Dibutyl Chlorophosphate in Acetonitrile

  • The nucleophilic substitution reactions of dibutyl chlorophosphate (3) with substituted anilines ($XC_6H_4NH_2$) and deuterated anilines ($XC_6H_4ND_2$) are investigated kinetically in acetonitrile at $55.0^{\circ}C$. The obtained deuterium kinetic isotope effects (DKIEs; kH/kD) are secondary inverse ($k_H/k_D$ = 0.86-0.97) with the strongly basic anilines while primary normal ($k_H/k_D$ = 1.04-1.10) with the weakly basic anilines. The DKIEs, steric effects of the two ligands, activation parameters, cross-interaction constants, variation trends of the kH/kD values with X, and mechanism are discussed for the anilinolyses of the nine ($R_1O$)($R_2O$)P(=O)Cl-type chlorophosphates. A concerted mechanism is proposed with a backside nucleophilic attack transition state for the strongly basic anilines and with a frontside attack involving a hydrogen-bonded four-center-type transition state for the weakly basic anilines on the basis of the magnitudes, secondary inverse and primary normal, and variation trends of the $k_H/k_D$ values with X.

The Kinetic Investigation of D-Hydroxyisovalerate Dehydrogenase from Fusarium sambucinum

  • The steady-state investigation of the mechanism of Dhydroxyisovalerate dehydrogenase was performed in order to understand this type of kinetic patterns. The initial velocity was measured with various amounts of both substrates, NADPH and 2-ketoisovalerate. Double reciprocal plots gave patterns that conversed on or near the abscissa. Binding studies indicated that NADPH bound first to the enzyme. The product $NADP^+$ was found to be a competitive inhibitor with respect to NADPH at a constant concentration of 2-ketoisovalerate. However, it showed noncompetitive inhibition against 2-ketoisovalerate at a fixed amount of NADPH. Another product, D-hydroxyisovalerate, was a non-competitive inhibitor versus NADPH and 2-ketoisovalerate at constant levels of 2-ketoisovalerate and NADPH, respectively. These results were comparable with an ordered bi-bi mechanism, in which NADPH bound first to the enzyme, followed by the binding of 2- ketoisovalerate. $NADP^+$ is the last product to be released. The ordered reaction manner of D-hydroxyisovalerate dehydrogenase from 2-ketoisovalerate to D-hydroxyisovalerate allows the accurate regulation of valine metabolism and it may lead to the regulation of total biosynthesis of enniatins in the Fusarium species.

  • The purpose of the present study was to determine the effects of platycodin D and D3 on the contractile force of the isolated rat aorta and blood pressure of the anesthetized rat. and also to establish the mechanism of action. The phenylephrine (10 $\mu$M)-induced contractile responses were greatly inhibited in the presence of platycodin D (4 ∼ 24 $\mu$g/$m\ell$) in a dose-dependent fashion. (omitted)
