  • It leaves much room for improvement that UTM-01 is of practical use. Therefor we will design of longitudinal pole magnet for UTM-02 system. The design of new magnet is based on light weight for bogie system. The new magnet for UTM-02 was reduced weight of magnet is 18kg per one, then it was ratio lift to weight is 10.13.

  • Many different types of floating slab track have been developed and installed around the world to reduce vibrations and noise originating in the surrounding environment. The main objective of this study is to examine the influence of slab length on behavior of floating slab track based on rail-slab-isolator interaction. The floating slab track is modeled by the connection between rail, slab, isolator, and slab mat in the transition zone. All elements were assembled in a simplified two-dimensional (2D) finite element model (FEM). The maximum length of FST is then investigated based on the maximum additional rail stress criterion as described in UIC 774-3R since no fully accepted design criteria for the slab length in FST systems currently exist.

  • The current study has developed an in-house 3D FEM code in order to model thermoacoustic problems in a gas turbine combustion system and compared calculation results of main instability characteristics with measured ones from a lab-scale partially-premixed combustor. From the comparison of calculation results with the measured data, the current model could successfully capture the harmonic longitudinal instability frequencies and their spatial distributions of the acoustic field as well as the growth rate of self-excited modes.

  • In this paper a 3-D continuum damage mechanics formulation for composite laminates and its implementation into a finite element model that is based on the layer-wise laminate plate theory are described. In the damage formulation, each composite ply is treated as a homogeneous orthotropic material exhibiting orthotropic damage in the form of distributed microscopic cracks that are normal to the three principal material directions. The progressive damage of different angle ply composite laminates under quasi-static loading that exhibit the free edge effects are investigated. The effects of various numerical modeling parameters on the progressive damage response are investigated. It will be shown that the dominant damage mechanism in the lay-ups of [+30/-30]s and [+45/-45]s is matrix cracking. However, the lay-up of [+15/-15] may be delaminated in the vicinity of the edges and at $+{\theta}/-{\theta}$ layers interfaces.

  • In this study, a method for the press forming of rectangular aluminium tube has been proposed. Rectangular aluminium tube has high stiff as the cold steel which can be lighter over 30% weight. It is increased every year by being recycled over 80%. Press die consists of punch, wing-die and holder for aluminium tube bending. When punch is applied with aluminium tube, holder is operated as same punch and wing-die is rotated through hinge. Stress-strain relations and springback are considered by bending angle of aluminium tube. In this study, the behaviors on tubes of square aluminium and rectangular aluminium with different thickness and area are established by the analysis of $DEFORM^{TM}$-3D program. Reducing fuel consumption is expected by using the aluminium tube deformation and it becomes the lightweight through recycling.

  • Unlike FEM (Finite Element Method), which provides an accurate deformation of soft objects, FFD (Free Form Deformation) based methods have been widely used for a quick and responsive representation of deformable objects in real-time applications such as computer games, animations, or simulations. The FFD-AABB (Free Form Deformation Axis Aligned Bounding Box) algorithm was also suggested to address the collision handling problems between deformable objects at an interactive rate. This paper proposes an enhanced FFD-AABB algorithm to improve the frame rate of simulation by adding the bounding sphere based collision test between 3D deformable objects. We provide a comparative analysis with previous methods and the result of proposed method shows about an 85% performance improvement.

  • The overhang parameter is required to maximize the power density of generator. However, the use of overhang design causes the rise of material cost. Moreover there is somewhat different overhang effect according to the rotor types. This paper presents the overhang effect on the overhang length according to the rotors with permanent magnet of generators. To examine the phenomenon of overhang effect, the new dynamic analysis method with 2D FEM is suggested and verified by the test results.

  • Switched reluctance motors have the advantage a high torque/weight ratio, as the large reluctance torque is made by salient poles of both stator and rotor, and a high reliability. On the other hand, the switched reluctance motors have the disadvantage of a large ripple torque which is made by salient poles. So the application for the industrial fields have been limited to special cases. This paper describes the design of a 12/8 switched reluctance motor using a enemy layer method of the asymmetry rotor. The design is focussed to reduce the torque ripple and radial force in the demanded value. The three dimension finite element analysis method(3D-FEM) was used for decides a enemy layer angle of the asymmetry rotor. This paper presents modifications of the rotor pole shape which reduces the torque ripple.

  • A shear-deformable finite element model (FEM) with five nodes and thirteen degrees of freedom (DOFs) for free vibrations of laminated composite beams with arbitrary lay-up is presented. This model can be capable of considering the elastic couplings among the extensional, bending and torsional deformations, and the Poisson's effect. Lagrange's principle is employed in derivation of the equations of motion, and thus the element matrices are obtained. Comparisons of the present element's results with those in experiment, available literature and the 3D finite element analysis software (ANSYS(R)) are made to show its accuracy. Some further results are given as referencing for the future studies in vibrations of laminated composite beamst.
