The demand for the use of 3D CAD data over the Internet environment has been increased. However, transmission of 3D CAD data has delayed the communication effectiveness because of the CAD data size. Lightweight CAD file design methodology is required for rapid transmission in the distributed environment. In this paper, to derive lightweight CAD files from commercial CAD systems, a file translation system producing a native file is constructed first by using the InterOp and API of the ACIS kernel. Using the B-rep model and mesh data extracted from the native file, the lightweight CAD file with topological information is constructed as a binary file. Since the lightweight CAD file retains topological information, it is applied to the dimensional verification, digital mock-ups and visualization of CAD files. Effectiveness of the proposed lightweight CAD file is confirmed through various case studies.

It is still very difficult to generate a geometry model and finite element model, which has complex and many free surface, even though 3D CAD solutions are applied. Furthermore, in the medical field, which is a big growth area of recent years, there is no drawing. For these reasons, making a geometry model, which is used in finite element analysis, is very difficult. To resolve these problems and satisfy the requests of the need to create a 3D digital file for an object where none had existed before, new technologies are appeared recently. Among the recent technologies, there is a growing interest in the availability of fast, affordable optical range laser scanning. The development of 3D laser scan technology to obtain 3D point cloud data, made it possible to generate 3D model of complex object. To generate CAD and finite element model using point cloud data from 3D scanning, surface reconstruction applications have widely used. In the early stage, these applications have many difficulties, such as data handling, model creation time and so on. Recently developed point-based surface generation applications partly resolve these difficulties. However there are still many problems. In case of large and complex object scanning, generation of CAD and finite element model has a significant amount of working time and effort. Hence, we concerned developing a good direct finite element model generation method using point cloud's location coordinate value to save working time and obtain accurate finite element model.
3D object recognition is difficult but important in computer vision. The important thing is to understand about the relationship between a geometric structure in three dimensions and its image projection. Most 3D recognition systems construct models either manually or by training the pose and orientation of the objects. But both approaches are not satisfactory. In this paper, we focus on a commercial CAD model as a third type of model building for vision. The models are expressed in Initial Graphics Exchanges Specification(IGES) output and reconstructed in a pinhole camera coordinate.
Three-dimensional topological data is essential for 3D modeling and application such as emergency management and 3D network analysis. This paper reviewed current 3D topological data model and developed a method to construct 3D topological node-relation data structure from 2D computer aided design (CAD) data. The method needed two steps with medial axis-transformation and topological node-relation algorithms. Using a medial-axis transformation algorithm, the first step is to extract skeleton from wall data that was drawn polygon or double line in a CAD data. The second step is to build a topological node-relation structure by converting rooms to nodes and the relations between rooms to links. So, links represent adjacency and connectivity between nodes (rooms). As a result, with the conversion method 3D topological data for micro-level sub-unit of each building can be easily constructed from CAD data that are commonly used to design a building as a blueprint.
This study aimed to create 3D-printed insoles for flat-footed senior men using 3D systems. 3D systems are product-manufacturing systems that use 3-dimensional technologies like 3D scanning, 3D modeling, and 3D printing. This study used a 3D scanner (NexScan2), 3D CAD programs including Rapidform, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Nauta+ compiling program, and a 3D printer. In order to create insoles for flat-footed senior men, we analyzed horizontal sections of 3D foot scans We selected 20 flat-footed and 20 normal-footed subjects. To make the 3D insole models, we sliced nine lines on the surface of the subjects' 3D foot scans, and plotted 144 points on the lines. We calculated the average of these 3D coordinates, then located this average within the 3D space of the AutoCAD program and created 3D sole models using the loft surface tools of the SolidWorks program. The sole models for flat feet differed from those of normal feet in the depth of the arch at the inner sideline and the big toe line. We placed the normal-footed sole model on a flat-footed sole model, and the combination of the two models resulted in the 3D insole for flat feet. We printed the 3D modeled insole using a 3D printer. The 3D printing material was an acrylic resin similar to rubber. This made the insole model flexible and wearable. This study utilized 3D systems to create 3D insoles for flat-footed seniors and this process can be applied to manufacture other items in the fashion industry as well.

All sorts of technique for schedule progress management is being developed recently. These can change and develop the abstractive concept model to a detailed model that describes the visual 3D image about a schedule plan. but, this technique is troublesome, because this requires the handwork by means of connection between 3D-CAD and scheduling Program. In this study, the process of real-time schedule progress control system using the integrated database by 3D-CAD object information system and schedule module is presented. This study present the process of a schedule progress management using IDEF0 model, and the process of real-time schedule progress management using RFID system. Through this study, we want to realize the rapid generation of estimated schedule information and to simulate and analyze actual schedule information by real-time.

Accurate pose prediction of objects in 3D space is an important visual recognition technique widely used in many applications such as scene understanding in both indoor and outdoor environments, robotic object manipulation, autonomous driving, and augmented reality. Most previous works for object pose estimation have the limitation that they require an exact 3D CAD model for each object. Unlike such previous works, this paper proposes a novel neural network model that can predict the poses of unknown objects based on only their RGB color images without the corresponding 3D CAD models. The proposed model can obtain depth maps required for unknown object pose prediction by using an adaptive depth estimator, AdaBins,. In this paper, we evaluate the usefulness and the performance of the proposed model through experiments using benchmark datasets.

Recently, the Virtual Reality(VR) became one of the most powerful tools in making media files. In the field of engineering, while it is increasing to use 3D CAD model in the process of design to manufacturing, the VR is not popular in comparison with media business. XVL(eXtensible Virtual Reality Markup Language) is one of XML(eXtensible Markup Language) which is a standard web media language. XVL provides the connection between 3D CAD data and virtual reality, and it can be easily published through internet for the engineering purpose. In this study, a web based VR model for major components in a nuclear power plant has been developed by using XVL and corresponding 3D CAD data. The proposed model is expected to be used in the engineering field to cooperate among experts, and also, it will provide more plausible explanation to ordinary people.

This study presents a way to generate and manage engineering information by applying steel bridge information model with 3D shape to existing application program. ACIS solid modeling kernel is used to visualize 3D geometric shape of steel bridge on the AutoCAD program. The shape information of 3D solid model can be connected to structural design information of steel bridge by an application module based on information model. The application module for manipulating steel bridge information can be easily developed by ObjectARX programming library supporting functional expansion of AutoCAD program. End-users can use the application module without any additional environmental setup on the AutoCAD. Thus this study facilitates information management of steel bridge by using ACIS solid modeler and ISO/STEP methodology.
