Characterization of PM10 and Air-borne Metallic Elements Produced in Asan and Seoul

  • The purpose of this study was to characterize background mass concentration of fine particle PM10 and metallic composition from September 2001 to August 2002 in comparison with a medium-sized city, Asan and a metropolitan city, Seoul. Annual mean PM10 concentrations in Asan and Seoul were 47.98 and $75.33\;{\mu}g\;/\;m^3$, respectively. The concentrations of PM10 were highest in spring season in both cities. The concentrations of measured metals except As and Pb in Asan were higher than those in Seoul. Yellow dust could affect the mass and metals concentrations of measured PM10 in Asan and Seoul. Relationship between measured metals concentrations showed that Si and Fe were associated with natural sources such as soil. Pb, Cu and Zn were closely related to urban anthropogenic sources such as fuel combustion. Especially, relationship between metals showed different association during yellow dust. Proper management for fine particles is warranted in Asan, considering the concentrations of metallic elements in fine particles in Asan were relatively higher than those in Seoul.

PMF 분석을 이용한 ACE-Asia 측정기간 중 제주 고산지역 입자상 물질의 입경별 발생원 추정 (Size-resolved Source Apportionment of Ambient Particles by Positive Matrix Factorization at Gosan, Jeju Island during ACE-Asia)

  • Size-and time-resolved aerosol samples were collected using an eight-stage Davis rotating unit for monitoring (DRUM) sampler from 23 March to 29 April 2001 at Gosan, Jeju Island, Korea, which is one of the super sites of Asia-Pacific Regional Aerosol Characterization Experiment(ACE-Asia). These samples were analyzed using synchrotron X-ray fluorescence for 3-hr average concentrations of 19 elements including Al, Si, S, Cl, K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Br, Rb, and Pb. The size-resolved data sets were then analyzed using the positive matrix factorization(PMF) technique to identify possible sources and estimate their contributions to particulate matter mass. PMF analysis uses the uncertainty of the measured data to provide an optimal weighting. Twelve sources were resolved in eight size ranges($0.09{\sim}12{\mu}m$) and included continental soil, local soil, sea salt, biomass/biofuel burning, coal combustion, oil combustion, municipal incineration, nonferrous metal source, ferrous metal source, gasoline vehicle, diesel vehicle, and volcanic emission. The PMF result of size-resolved source contributions showed that natural sources represented by local soil, sea salt, continental soil, and volcanic emission contributed about 79% to the predicted primary particulate matter(PM) mass in the coarse size range ($1.15{\sim}12{\mu}m$) while anthropogenic sources such as coal combustion and biomass/biofuel burning contributed about 58% in the fine size range($0.56{\sim}2.5{\mu}m$). The diesel vehicle source contributed mostly in ultra-fine size range($0.09{\sim}0.56{\mu}m$) and was responsible for about 56% of the primary PM mass.

숯의 유해물질과 이들의 연소 중 상변화에 대한 열분석 연구 (A Thermal Study of the Harmful Chemical Species of Charcoal and Their Transformation during Combustion)

  • 숯은 제조 및 활용과정에서 연소를 통해 함유된 성분들을 방출한다. 연소는 숯의 화학조성뿐만 아니라 숯의 표면 물성변화를 초래하고 다른 성분을 흡착하기 쉬운 상태로 변형시키기도 한다. 본 연구에서는 국내에서 시판되는 4종 숯에 대하여 화학적, 열적안정성과 중금속 및 유기유해물질의 거동 연구를 수행하였다. 상온에서 $400^{\circ}C$까지 열중량분석(TGA)과 시차주사열량계를 이용한 연소에 따른 중량변화와 관련된 물질거동 연구를 수행하였다. TGA 분석결과 대부분 시료에서 $200^{\circ}C$ 이전 약 10% 중량이 감소하였으며, $200^{\circ}C$ 이전에 잔류유기물과 가스상 물질이 소실되는 것을 알려준다. 열분석에 의한 질량 감소는 천연숯과 인공숯에서 다르게 측정되었다. 천연숯 K1, C1 에서는 $400^{\circ}C$까지의 가열 반응결과 약 15% 중량 감소가 있었으며, 인공숯 K2, C2의 경우 약 20%의 중량 감소가 있는 것으로 검출되었다. 가열에 의한 $400^{\circ}C$ 이하 중량감소는 주요 유기물과 VOC의 소설에 기인하는 것으로 나타났다. 화학조성분석에 근거한 X-선 회절분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 첨가제인 Ba이 $Ba(NO_3)_2$$BaCO_3$ 등의 형태로 $NaNO_3$와 함께 숯에 다량 존재하는 것으로 분석되었다.

  • 연소의 3요소 중 대기 중에 상시 존재하는 산소는 고압산소 조건에서는 극미량의 가연물만으로도 화재·폭발이 발생할 수 있으며. 연소속도 역시 상당하여 순식간에 공정 설비 및 배관을 녹이는 등 직접적인 영향을 줄 수 있는 온도까지 상승할 수 있다. 따라서 고압산소 상태에서 발생한 사고는 기타 사고에 비해 큰 피해가 발생하는 경우가 많다. 최근 산소공급 배관에 설치되어 있는 밸브를 조작하던 도중 내부에서 급격한 연소와 함께 파열이 발생하여 폭발로 인한 인명피해가 발생하였는데, 오래된 탄소강 배관인 경우 운전 중 발생한 Particle이 가연물이 되어 사고가 발생할 수 있다. 특히나 산소설비는 고압가스안전관리법에 따라 허가된 시설이고, 산업안전보건법에 의한 제한규정이 없는 상태이기 때문에 이러한 기준 적립이 무엇보다 중요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 사고사례 및 해외기준을 바탕으로 고압 산소 취급 시 안정성 향상을 위한 방법에 대해 검토하고자 한다.

피스톤 슬랩 충격력 예측을 위한 충돌점 모델 (A Model of Collision Point to Estimate Impact Force Related to Piston Slap)

  • Piston slap is not only one of the major sources of noise and vibration in internal combustion engines but also a cause of the deterioration of engine performance. The basic mechanism associated with the piston slap seems to be quite simple but the phenomenon is in fact complicated with regard to many mechanical elements associated, First of all the impact force of piston slap must be identified to estimate engine block surface vibration, In this paper model of collision point is proposed to calculate the impact force when slap surface vibration. The predicted and experimentally observed vibration results confirm that the proposed method is practically useful.

2010년도 서울시 대기 중 PM2.5의 성분특성 및 발생원 추정에 관한 연구 (Chemical Characteristics and Source Apportionment ofPM2.5 in Seoul Metropolitan Area in 2010)

  • This study is aimed to estimate the $PM_{2.5}$ source apportionment at Seoul intensive monitoring site located in Seoul metropolitan area. Time-resolved chemical compositions of $PM_{2.5}$ are measured in real time using ambient ion monitor, semi-continuous carbon monitor, and on-line XRF at Seoul intensive monitoring site in 2010. The mass concentration of $PM_{2.5}$ was simultaneously monitored with eight ionic species (${SO_4}^{2-}$, $NO_3{^-}$, $Cl^-$, $NH_4{^+}$, $Na^+$, $K^+$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$), two carbonaceous species (OC and EC), and fourteen elements (Si, K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Zn, As, Se, Pb) in 1-hr interval. The data sets were then analyzed using EPA PMF version 3 to identify sources and contributions to $PM_{2.5}$ mass. EPA PMF modeling identified eight PM2.5 sources, including soil dust, secondary sulfate, secondary nitrate, motor vehicle, coal combustion, oil combustion, biomass burning, and municipal incineration. This study found that the average $PM_{2.5}$ mass was apportioned to anthropogenic sources such as motor vehicle, fuel combustion, and biomass burning (61%) and secondary aerosols, including sulfate and nitrate (38%).

노후 차량의 배기가스 측정을 이용한 산소센서, 인젝터, 점화2차파형의 파형분석 연구 (A Study on Waveform Analysis of Oxygen Sensor, Injector and Secondary Waveform through Emission Characteristics by a Decrepit Vehicle)

  • The experiment was done on cars travelling at the speeds of 20km/h, 60km/h and 100km/h using the performance testing mode for chassis dynamometer. In this experiment, the relativity between the secondary waveform coming from ignition coil and exhaust emissions were measured in case of cars with failures, in oxygen sensor, spark plugs. The following results obtained by analysis of the relativity between the secondary waveform and exhaust emissions. 1) When the oxygen sensor is failure, the average value of CO emission measured was 6.8 times higher than the standard CO emission value and the average value of HC emission measured was 2.3 times higher than the standard emission level. 2) When engine parts are in failure, more fuel enters the cylinder due to longer opening duration of injector, and it tended to make CO and HC emission values increase. 3) Combustion duration, the shape of flame propagation during spark line, and the size of the discharge-induced energy were the three main elements that directly cause variations in CO and HC emission values.

CrW 전율고용체 첨가 내열 알루미늄 합금에 관한 연구 (The Study of Heat Resistant Aluminum Alloy with CrW Homogeneous Solid Solution)

  • Recently, heat-resistant aluminum alloy has been re-focused as a downsizing materials for the internal combustion engines. Heat-resistant Al alloy development and many researches are still ongoing for the purpose of improving thermal stability, high-temperature mechanical strength and fatigue properties. The conventional principle of heat-resistant Al alloy is the precipitation of intermetallic compounds by adding a variety of elements is generally used to improve the mechanical properties of Al alloys. Heat resistant aluminum alloys have been produced by CrW homogeneous solid solution to overcome the limit of conventional heat resistant aluminum alloy. From EPMA, it is found that CrW homogeneous soild solution phases with the size of $50-100{\mu}m$ have been dispersed uniformly, and there is no reaction between aluminum and CrW alloy. In addition, after maintaining at high temperature of 573 K, there is no growth of hardening phase, nor desolved, but CrW still exists as a homogeneous solid solution.

직접분사식 디젤엔진에서 아산화질소의 생성에 관한 실험적 연구 (A Experimental Study on Nitrous Oxide Formation in Direct Injection Diesel Engine)

  • 일반적으로 선박용 디젤엔진의 아산화질소($N_2O$)배출률은 이산화황($SO_2$)배출률과 밀접한 상관성을 갖고 있고, 선박에서 사용되는 연료의 다양성은 $N_2O$배출특성에 영향을 미친다고 받아들여져 왔다. 최근의 연구보고에 의하면 연료 연소에서 발생한 충분한 일산화질소(NO)가 존재할 경우, 배기의 $SO_2$배출률이 $N_2O$생성에 미치는 영향은 NO의 영향보다 막대하게 크다. 그러므로 $SO_2$성분으로부터 기인하는 $N_2O$생성은 NOx저감을 위한 배기가스 재순환(EGR) 시스템에서 중요한 인자로 작용한다. 본 실험적인 연구의 목적은 $SO_2$유량 증가를 갖는 디젤엔진의 흡기가 배기의 $N_2O$배출률에 미치는 영향에 대하여 조사하는 것이다. 실험에 사용된 테스트 엔진은 2600rpm에서 12kW의 출력을 갖는 4행정 직접분사식 디젤엔진이고, 운전조건은 75% 부하에서 실시되었다. 0.499%($m^3/m^3$)의 $SO_2$표준가스는 흡기의 $SO_2$농도를 변화시키기 위해 사용되었다. 결과적으로 황 성분을 포함하지 않는 연료는 $SO_2$를 배출시키지 않았고, 흡기 중에 $SO_2$표준가스의 증가에 따른 배기의 $SO_2$배출률은 $SO_2$흡입률과 비교하여 거의 같은 비율이었다. 또한, 흡기의 $SO_2$유량 상승은 $N_2O$배출률을 상승시켜 배기 중의 $N_2O$는 흡기의 $SO_2$혼합기에 의해 생성되었다. 결국 황 성분을 함유한 연료는 연소 중에 $SO_2$를 형성하고 배기 중의 $N_2O$는 연소실에 존재하는 NO와 $SO_2$의 반응에 의해 발생된다고 할 수 있다.

주방 환기에 대한 조리사들의 인식도 연구 - 서울 지역을 대상으로 - (A Study on the Recognition of Cooks about the Kitchen Ventilation)

  • The objective of the study is to observe cooks first from the kitchen and those who care health and to grasp the impression regarding the kitchen environment. Also, it grasped the recognition degree of cooks against the elements of kitchen ventilation and kitchen ventilation equipments. We surveyed against 385 cooks who work in the kitchen of special grade hotels and family restaurants, used 5 scales for the object, and executed the analysis. The results of this study are as follows: (1) Health condition of the cooks appeared most highly pain in the shoulder and the neck. (2) for the impression regarding the kitchen environment, temperature was high and the insufficiency of ventilation is answered highly. (3) The importance of kitchen ventilation of cooks was recognized very high. (4) The combustion gas was recognized as very high percentage and the most effective element of the kitchen on the human body to remove first inside the kitchen. (5) Most cooks were recognized that the improvement of ventilation equipments is necessary. (6) The object of ventilation equipments is appeared to maintain comfortable kitchen environment. (7) The optimum operation method of ventilation equipment uses the automatic system of ventilation equipment from the kitchen and it is necessary to maintain the optimum. This research is based on preceding studies, investigating special grade hotels and family restaurants in Seoul. The ventilation plan of the kitchen should be accomplished to improve the health of cooks and productivity.
