Control of Position of Neutral Line in Flexible Microelectronic System Under Bending Stress (굽힘응력을 받는 유연전자소자에서 중립축 위치의 제어)

  • A flexible electronic device deformed by external force causes the failure of a semiconductor die. Even without failure, the repeated elastic deformation changes carrier mobility in the channel and increases resistivity in the interconnection, which causes malfunction of the integrated circuits. Therefore it is desirable that a semiconductor die be placed on a neutral line where the mechanical stress is zero. In the present study, we investigated the effects of design factors on the position of neutral line by finite element analysis (FEA), and expected the possible failure behavior in a flexible face-down packaging system assuming flip-chip bonding of a silicon die. The thickness and material of the flexible substrate and the thickness of a silicon die were considered as design factors. The thickness of a flexible substrate was the most important factor for controlling the position of the neutral line. A three-dimensional FEA result showed that the von Mises stress higher than yield stress would be applied to copper bumps between a silicon die and a flexible substrate. Finally, we suggested a designing strategy for reducing the stress of a silicon die and copper bumps of a flexible face-down packaging system.

Convergence Technique Study of Model Tie Rod End by Configuration through Simulation Analysis (시뮬레이션 해석을 통한 형상 별 타이로드 엔드 모델의 융합 기술 연구)

  • Deformation, stress and fatigue life due to the configuration of tie rod end are investigated in this study. Tie rod ends with the total three kinds of configurations are modelled with three dimensions through CATIA program and the simulation analysis is carried out with the ANSYS finite element analysis program. There are the models of A, B and C by the configuration of the rod end. As this study result, maximum deformation, maximum equivalent stress and maximum fatigue life of A type model are shown to be 0.0614mm, 160.27MPa and 336,930cycles respectively. And maximum deformation, maximum equivalent stress and maximum fatigue life of B type model are shown to be 0.0648mm, 90.889MPa and 1,171,000cycles respectively. Maximum deformation, maximum equivalent stree and maximum fatigue life of C type model are also shown to be 0.0402mm, 84.794MPa and 20,000,000cycles respectively. The durability of the models of tie rod ends through the values of this result could be estimated and the data for the design and development of more improved tie rod end could be secured. And it is possible to be grafted onto the convergence technique at design and be shown as the esthetic sense.

Prediction of Preceding Crown Settlement Using Longitudinal Displacement Measured on Tunnel Face in Fault Zone (단층대가 분포하는 터널에서 굴진면 수평변위를 이용한 선행 천단변위 분석)

  • Preceding displacements in tunnel are difficult to predict since the measurements of displacements after excavation can not be performed immediately. In the present study, The longitudinal displacements which can be measured immediately after excavation are used to predict the crown settlements occurring before excavation only if fault is located at the tunnel crown. Three-dimensional finite element analysis was conducted using 28 numerical models with various fault attitudes to analyze the correlation between the longitudinal displacements on tunnel face and preceding crown settlements. The results, $L_{face}/C$ ratio show 2~12% in the drives with dip models and 2~13% in the drives against dip models individually. In addition, each model has a certain $L_{face}/C$ ratio. The result of the regression analysis show that the coefficient of determination is over 0.8 in most models. Therefore, crown settlements occurring before excavation can be predicted by analyzing the longitudinal displacements occurring on tunnel faces.

A Structural Analytic Evaluation of a Connote Pad In a Spent Fuel Dry Storage Cask (사용후핵연료 건식저장용기의 콘크리트 받침대에 대한 구조해석평가)

  • A spent fuel storage cask is required to prove the safety of a canister under a hypothetical accidental drop condition. A hypothetical accidental drop condition means that a canister is assumed to be a lee drop on to a pad of the storage cask during loading it into a storage cask. A pad of the storage cask absorbs shock to maintain the structural integrities of a canister under a hypothetical accidental drop condition. In this paper a finite element analysis for various pad structures was carried out to improve the structural integrity of a canister under a hypothetical accidental drop condition. A pad of a storage cask was designed a steel structure with concrete. The 1/4 height of a pad was modified with a structure composed of a steel and a polyurethane foam as a impact limiter. The effect of a shape of a steel structure was studied. The effects of the thickness of a steel structure and the density of a polyurethane foam was also studied.

  • 터빈 블레이드와 같이 회전하는 구조물의 파단은 공진 근처에서 진동이 발 생할 때에 이에 기인하는 피로에 의하여 발생한다. 그러므로 이와 같은 파단 을 피하기 위해서는 설계 단계에서 이론적인 계산에 의하여 구조물의 고유 진동수를 결정하는 것이 상당히 중요하다. 판이 회전을 받게 되면 원심력에 의하여 판의 강성이 증가하므로 고유진동수가 회전하지 않는 판의 고유진동 수보다는 상당히 증가하게 된다. 이에 대한 연구가 국내외에서 상당수 행하 여졌지만, 연구의 대부분이 회전의 영향을 고려하지 않은 정지판(stationary plate)에 대한 것이며 뢰전을 고려한 연구는 극히 제한되어 있다. 또한 회전 의 영향을 고려한 연구의 대부분이 해석 대상을 보로서 단순화 시켰고 해법 으로는 유한요소법과 Ritz법 등을 사용하였다. 이는 블레이드가 지니고 있는 기하학적인 형상과 진동 특성이 해석적인 방법으로 해결하는 데에는 상당한 어려움이 있기 때문이다. 실제적으로는 터빈 블레이드와 같은 회전체의 진동 특성이 설치각이나 비틀림각, 판의 형상비, 회전속도 등의 변화에 의하여 영 향을 받기 때문에 보와 같은 진동 거동을 보이기보다는 판이나 셀과 같은 진동 거동을 보이므로 보다 정확한 해석을 수행하기 위해서는 해석 대상을 판이나 셀로서 취급하는 것이 타당하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 위와 같은 이 유 때문에 해석 대상을 등방성 사각판과 직교이방성 복합재료 사각판으로 선택하였으며, 구조물의 고유진동수에 영향을 미치는 다음과 같은 인자들을 해석에 고려하였다. 1. 회전속도 (rotational speed) 2. 설치각 (setting angle) 3. 허브의 반경 (hub radius) 4. 판의 형상비 (aspect ratio) 5. 적층순서 (stacking sequence)구조물에 대한 동적실험(dynamic test)을 통하여 단기간에 동적특성을 결정하고 SDM(structure dynamic modification)이나 FRS(force response simulation)를 수행하여 임의의 좌표 공간에 대한 진동수준을 해석적으로 예측할 뿐만 아니라 구조물의 진동제어 를 위한 동적인자를 변경시킬 수 있는 정보를 제공하며 장비를 방진할 경우 신뢰성 있는 전달률을 결정할 수 있다. 실험적으로 철교, 교량이나 건물의 철골구조 및 2층 바닥 등 대,중형의 복잡한 구조물에 대항 동특성을 나타내 는 모빌리티를 결정할 경우 충격 가진 실험이 사용되는 실험장비 측면에서 나 실험을 수행하는 과정이 대체적으로 간편하다. 그러나 이 경우 대상 구조 물을 충분히 가진시킬수 있는 용량의 대형 충격기(large impact hammer)가 필요하게 된다. 이러한 동적실험은 약 길이 61m, 폭 16m의 4경간 교량에 대 하여 동적실험을 수행하여 가능성을 확인하였다. 여기서는 실험실 수준의 평 판모델을 제작하고 실제 현장에서 이루어질 수 있는 진동제어 구조물에 대 한 동적실험 및 FRS를 수행하는 과정과 동일하게 따름으로써 실제 발생할 수 있는 오차나 error를 실험실내의 차원에서 파악하여 진동원을 있는 구조 물에 대한 진동제어기술을 보유하고자 한다. 이용한 해마의 부피측정은 해마경화증 환자의 진단에 있어 육안적인 MR 진단이 어려운 제한된 경우에만 실제적 도움을 줄 수 있는 보조적인 방법으로 생각된다.ofile whereas relaxivity at high field is not affected by τS. Proposal of Connection Details for a Double Split Tee Connection Without a Shear tap (전단탭이 없는 상·하부 스플릿 티 접합부의 접합부상세 제안)

  • A double split tee connection, which is a beam-column moment connection, shows different behavioral characteristics under the influences of the thickness of a T-stub flange, a high-strength bolt gauge distance, and the number and diameter of a high-strength bolt. A double split tee connection is idealized and designed that a flexural moment normally acting on connections can be resisted by a T-stub and a shear force by a shear tap. However, where a double split tee connection is adopted to a low-and medium-rise steel structure, a small-sized beam member can be adopted. Then, a shear tab may not be bolted to the web of a beam. This study was conducted to suggest the details of a connection to secure that a double split tee connection with a geometric shape has a sufficient capacity to resist a shear force. To verify this, this study was conducted to make a three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis on a double split tee connection.

Groundwater Flow Modeling in a Block-Scale Fractured Rocks considering the Fractured Zones (단열대의 영향을 고려한 블록 규모 단열 암반에서의 지하수 유동 모의)

  • The block-scale groundwater flow system at Olkiluoto site in Finland was simulated. The heterogeneous and anisotropic hydraulic conductivity field for the domain was constructed from the discrete fracture network, which considered only the fractured zones identified in the deep boreholes installed in the study site. The groundwater flow model was calibrated by adjusting the recharge rate and the transmissivities of the fractured zones to fit the calculated hydraulic heads and into- and out-flow rates in the observation intervals of the boreholes with the observed ones. In the calibrated model, the calculated flow rates at some intervals were not in accordance with the observed ones although the calculated hydraulic heads fit well with the observed ones, which revealed that the number of the conduits for groundwater flow is insufficient in the conceptual model for groundwater flow modeling. Therefore, it was recommended that the potential local conduits such as background fractures should be added to the present conceptual model.

A design guide to minimize frost heave in unbound pavement layers over box culverts (저토피부 암거상부 포장의 도상피해 예방을 위한 단명설계)

  • During the whole month of December in 2005, Korea experienced both heavy snowfall and freezing temperature in southeast regions, which had caused frost related damages to many pavements laid on top of box culverts. In-situ observation revealed that the formation of ice lenses in subgrade and subsequent unbound layers led to upward heaving and transverse cracks in concrete and asphalt pavements. This has affected the long-term performance of pavements, as well as has threatened drivers' safety for a while. Recently, Korea Expressway Corporation has proposed a design guide to better protect newly constructed unbound pavement layers over culverts from frost heave. A trench drainage system has been selected to effectively draw off water and to alleviate pore-water pressure in soils during the coldest season. This paper presents experimental and analytical backgrounds behind this new design guide. Soil specimens retrieved from the sites are tested to quantify clay content and to estimate the permeability of subgrade. A 2-D ground seepage analysis has been conducted to better understand the changes in pore water pressures as a function of grain size. Finally, an optimum size of trench drainage is determined based on numerical analysis and workability in the field.

  • In this work the dynamic heat transfer occurring in a cable penetration fire stop system built in the firewall of nuclear power plants is three-dimensionally investigated to develop a test-simulator that can be used to verify effectiveness of the sealants. Here was carried out an experiment to observe the heat transfer in the cable penetration fire stop system made of DOW CORNING products. The dynamic heat transfer occurring in the fire stop system is formulated in a parabolic partial differential equation subjected to a set of initial and boundary conditions. And it was modeled, simulated, and analyzed. The simulation results were illustrated in three-dimensional graphics and were compared with experimental data. Through the simulations, it was shown clearly that the temperature distribution was influenced very much by the number, position, and temperature of the cable streams. It also was found that the dynamic heat transfer through the cable streams was one of the most dominant factors, and the feature of heat conduction could be understood as an unsteady-state process. It is certain that these numerical results are useful for making a performance-based design for the cable penetration fire stop system.

Numerical Simulation of 72m-Long Ultra High Performance Concrete Pre-Stressed Box Girder (72m 초고강도 콘크리트 프리스트레스트 박스 거더의 수치 해석)

  • The study presents a three-dimensional approach to simulate the nonlinear behavior of a 72 m long Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) pre-stressed box girder for a pedestrian bridge in Busan, South Korea. The concrete damage plasticity (CDP) model is adopted to model the non-linear behavior of the UHPFRC material, in which the material properties are obtained from uniaxial compressive and tensile tests. The simulation model based on the proposed stress-strain curve is validated by the results of four-point bending model tests of a 50 m UHPFRC pre-stressed box girder. The results from the simulation models agree with the experimental observations and predict the flexural behavior of the 50 m UHPFRC pre-stressed box girder accurately. Afterward, the validated model is utilized to investigate the flexural behavior of the 72 m UHPFRC pre-stressed box girder. Here, the load-deflection curve, stress status of the girder at various load levels, and connection details is analyzed. The load-deflection curve is also compared with design load to demonstrate the great benefit of the slender UHPFRC box girder. The obtained results demonstrate the applicability of the nonlinear finite element method as an appropriate option to analyze the flexural behavior of pre-stressed long-span girders.
