Recently adoption of BIM technology for building renovation and remodeling has been increased in construction industry. However most buildings have trouble in 2D drawing-based BIM modeling, because 2D drawings have not been updated real situations continually. Applying reverse engineering, this study analysed the point cloud data structure and the process for guideline of reverse engineering of architectural MEP, and deducted the relating considerations. To active usage of 3D scanning technique in domestic, the objective of this study is to analyze the point cloud data processing from real site with terrestrial LiDAR and the process from data gathering to data acquisition.

This paper has developed the system for supporting the approximate construction cost and the quantity estimation based on 3D model information in the pre-project planning phase of 3-span continuous cable-bridge with 2-pylons. First of all, we'd analyzed the design information (structural design report, blueprint and quantity) of the existing cable-stayed bridges and derived the design variables of cable-stayed bridges. We developed the BIM wizard that generates a cable-stayed bridge model parametrically based on derived design variables. The principle material quantities of cable-stayed bridge are calculated directly from 3-dimensional bridge model built by using the BIM wizard. Then, we can estimate the construction cost in relation to its quantities and unit cost of cable-stayed bridge. In a result, we have established the system that the construction cost can be estimated more specific than the conventional method (construction estimates per meter or square meter). We hereby will be able to review various alternatives as soon as possible in bidding process.

There are two methods to survey the natural cave. One is plane table surveying and the other is recording chart surveying. The drawing maps drawn by these methods are 2D. Furthermore, it is difficult to figure out the accurate dimension about full sections and whole interior products because of use of plane table and recording chart. Accordingly, in this study, the 3D spatial information about Dangcheomuldonggul was constructed by the Terrestrial LiDAR and high resolution digital camera where is belong to Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes as the first World Natural Heritage of the Republic of Korea. Also, the utilization possibility of 3D spatial information was suggested to the basic data of deformation and change detection through structure analysis, section analysis, shape analysis, and interior products analysis.

Application of 3D laser scanner to civil engineering is widely studied in various fields such as tunnel, bridge, calculation of earth volume, construction measurement, observation of rock joint, etc. Some studies on utilization of the 3D laser scanner for calculating the over-break and/or under-break of tunnels have also been carried out. However, in the previous research, the scanning data were usually compared with the 2D CAD blueprint results; although the shape of tunnel structure is relatively simple, for precise calculation of the over-break and/or under-break of tunnels, three-dimensional analysis based on BIM is needed. Therefore, in this paper, a new program that calculates the over-break and/or under-break of tunnels using the 3D laser scanner and the BIM is developed; moreover the effective and rapid process of data treatment is proposed. The accuracy of the developed program was verified by applying the new system to a real tunnels construction field.

The mines in our country are complex in geography and shape and because of its small scale, accurate surveying performance and 3D modeling are necessary for mine development and management and mining plans. However, due to the data acquisition and processing technology and economy, the existing methods are currently used. The structure, mining, and mining area of the mine are recorded and managed based on the 2D drawings. As a result, it is true that there is risk of accidents caused by problems of accuracy as well as waste of personnel and time. In recent years, research data on geology and geospatial information on mines have been integrated into a database in foreign countries, and they are used for mine management and mining planning. In this study, we tried to construct spatial information for mining management and mining plan using laser scanner. Through research, spatial information about the mine was effectively obtained and produced data modeled through data processing. The 3D model for mining mines is expected to be a valuable tool for establishing and operating a safe mining plan for mines.

3D Models of offshore plant piping materials designed by 3D CAD systems are provided to the production processes in the form of 2D piping drawings and 2D piping installation drawings. In addition to the standard engineering information, the purchasing, procurement, manufacturing, installation, and inspection of raw materials are managed systematically in an integrated process control system. The existing integrated process management system can help reduce the processing time by managing the flow and progress of resources systematically, but it does not include 3D design model information. Hence, it is difficult to understand complicated pipe structures before installing the pipe. In addition, when design changes or immediate design modifications are required, it is difficult to find related data or exchange information quickly with each other. To solve this problem, an offshore plant-piping process-monitoring system was developed based on a 3D model. The 3D model-based piping monitoring system is based on Visual Studio 2017 C# and UNITY3D so that the piping-process work information can be linked to the 3D CAD model in real time. In addition, the 3D model could check the progress of the pipe installation process, such as block, size, and material, and the progress of functional inspection items, such as cleaning, hydraulic inspection, and pneumatic inspection.

Complexity in construction projects has increased over the years, which has led to an increase in the number of organizations involved in those projects. In today's environment, these organizations operate in different parts of the world requiring their personnel to be geographically distributed. So, these organizations construct and utilize the information systems. However, looking into this systems' content, those use two-dimensional planes such as pictures and drawings to check the scheduling etc., which cause the defect of communication and problems such as change order. Accordingly, this study introduces the Web 3Ds and 3D Libraries, intends to present the effect on modeling of three-dimensional work structure using Web 3D in cyberspace.

The objective of this research is to develop a method of improving MEP facility management based on 3D reverse engineering. Recently, 3D image scanning-based reverse engineering has been implemented in the fields of architecture, construction and (manufacturing). In the case where there are many objects and the MEP system is complicated, 3D reverse engineering is applied in semiconductor factories, because facility maintenance works cause the 2D drawing to be different from the original one. The 3D point cloud data obtained from 3D image scanning contains accurate data and can increase the efficiency of complicated MEP facility maintenance works. For this purpose, the present research studied the technology trends and analyzed the process of 3D reverse engineering. Based on the results, a method of improving MEP facility management is established and its effects described.
