  • The purpose of this study is to classify the types of men's shoulders through the criteria which represent the characteristic of men's shoulders. In addition, we introduce new bodice patterns depending on our classification. We have the fo11owing conclusions based on our sample size of 200 men's shoulders: 1. The result of factor analysis indicates that six factors are extracted and they consist of 62.3% of total variance. We then choose three factors as standard items for our classification of the shape of men's shoulders. 2. We divide the shape of shoulders into three categories: bent, slopeness, and thickness. Each category is divided into three subcategories. (a) Bent: If one's shoulders are bent forward or backward, then we call them front or back-bent type. Otherwise, they are called standard-bent type. (b) Slopeness: If one's shoulders have an easy or steep slope, then we call them easy or steep slope type. Or else, they are called standard slope type. (c) Thickness: If one's shoulders are thick or thin, then we call them thick or thin type. Otherwise, we call them standard thick type. 3. According to the frequency based on our data entries of 200 men's shoulders, we introduce five new types of men's shoulders. 76.5% of examined men's shoulders belong to one of these five types: (a) 8.0% of standard slope and back-bent type: (b) 9.5% of easy slope and standard-bent type; (c) 45.5% of standard slope and standard-bent type; (d) 5.5% of steep slope and standard-bent type; (e) 8.0% of standard slope and back-bent type. 4. The suitability of new basic bodice patterns based on the types of men's shoulders are demonstrated by the high approval rate of the subjects who participate in testing.

  • The present study analyzed data from the 3D measurement of the feet of men aged over 20 years residing in the capital region as part of the 6th Anthropometry of Size Korea. To analyze the characteristics of the foot shapes of young men aged 20~39 years and middle-aged/elderly men aged 40~69 years by age and by type, a cluster analysis was conducted using the factors derived through the factor analysis as independent variables. The results of the study that analyzed the characteristics of foot shapes by type according to differences in age were as follows. First, through the analysis of the characteristics of the foot shapes of young men by type, five factors were extracted, and the foot shapes were classified into three types: Type 1 (short and flat), Type 2 (thick), and Type 3 (long and wide). Second, through the analysis of the characteristics of the foot shapes of middle-aged/elderly men by type, six factors were extracted, and the foot shapes were classified into four types: Type 1 (short and regular), Type 2 (flat), Type 3 (thick), and Type 4 (long and regular). The results of the present study are expected to serve as basic data for the design of shoes by age and foot type.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine whether changes of position might effect the convergence pulmonary function of the 20s men of mild intellectual disabilities with obesity. Ten subjects of mild intellectual disabilities with obesity(fat group) and ten contrary subjects without obesity(control group) were participated in the experiment. Subjects were assessed for their pulmonary function by using Fit mate according to the position changes(supine position, 45 lean sitting position, 90 sitting position). One-way repeated ANOVA analyzed each region data of pulmonary function of both the fat group and the control group according to their position changes. The result of the experiment showed that the 20s men of mild intellectual disabilities with obesity have lower pulmonary function than the contrary subjects in the each given posture. In comparison with three experimental positions, supine position was the lowest in the pulmonary function. This study showed the 20s men of mild intellectual disabilities with obesity have lower function of pulmonary volume than the control group, and thus, it suggests that the pulmonary functional data of 20s men of mild intellectual disabilities with obesity in this experiment can be used as a basic respiratory one for the various exercise programs in the area of the physical activities.

As a result, Chinese women were bigger in height, arm length, abdomen girth, and upper arm girth but smaller in shoulder length and shoulder width. The cluster analysis for body type classification was as follows: Type 1, tall and well-developed, was 34.8%. Type 2 with weaker upper body, medium height, narrow shoulders and a slim waist was 45%. Type 3 with stronger upper body, shortest height and wide shoulders was 20.2%. 2. Subjects for the study were 255 male white-collar workers ranging in ages from twenties to fifties, in Seoul and Kwangju City, Korea. The men with higher activity of personality preferred the double jacket with 4 buttons, the combination of light color jacket and dark trousers, glen check pattern jacket, herringbone pattern jacket, light beige color dress shirts. The higher the emotional stability, the higher the preferences on diverse patterns such as fine stripe, plaid, hound\`s-tooth check, and small check pattern. The men with higher dominance preferred dark blue color suit, glen check pattern suit, and necktie of red circle, and disliked the necktie of gray circle. The men in their 20\`s and 30\`s liked the single jacket with 3 buttons, the suit of fine stripe and the necktie of gray circle more among three income groups. The higher the men\`s age and income were, the more they liked the conservative style such as a single jacket with 2 buttons. The men who reside in Seoul liked the suit of gray circle, the jacket and trousers of same color, the patternless jacket, and the patternless suit more than the men in Kwangju. Therefore, the men in methropolitan area preferred conservative clothing image. Fine stripe pattern and patternless materials were preferred when men wore jacket and trousers of same color, while glen check pattern was preferred as the pattern of jacket when jacket and trousers of different color. Male white-collar worker liked single jacket more than double jacket, and preferred the dark blue color suit and necktie, patternless suit, fine stripe suit, and the pale blue dress shirts generally. The present findings provide that the personality of male has influence on the clothing design preferences, and it is possible to infer men\`s personality by their attire.

  • Originating in South Korea, Taekwondo has been globally popular among individuals who desire to improve their health in a unique fashion. The Taekwondo uniform, one of the essential factors within the sport, needs to possess both functionality and size suitability to support dynamic movements within Taekwondo. This study investigated the development of patterns in Taekwondo uniforms by suggesting patterns that reflect physical suitability derived from appearance tests and movement functionality tests of the uniforms. More specifically, we selected a sample uniform and conducted a dressing test, which considered both the aesthetics and the functionality of the garment. Then, we considered size suitability, which allowed us to design practical Taekwondo uniform patterns that encompassed more variation in body sizes of both men and women. The result of the dressing test was that women's uniforms typically required more factors compared to men's uniforms due to women's relatively smaller physiques. Based on this result, we revised the pattern to also encompass the minor differences in uniforms between men and women. In the end, the Taekwondo uniforms for women required more modifications than those for men.
