A push-push voltage controlled dielectric resonator oscillator (VCDRO) with a modified frequency tuning structure using broadside couplers is investigated. The push-push VCDRO designed at 16 GHz is manufactured using a low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology to reduce the circuit size. The frequency tuning structure using a broadside coupler is embedded in a layer of the A6 substrate by using the LTCC process. Experimental results show that the fundamental and third harmonics are suppressed above 15 dBc and 30 dBc, respectively, and the phase noise of push-push VCDRO is -97.5 dBc/Hz at an offset frequency of 100 kHz from the carrier. The proposed frequency tuning structure has a tuning range of 4.46 MHz over a control voltage of 1-11 V. This push-push VCDRO has a miniature size of 15 mm×15 mm. The proposed design and fabrication techniques for a push-push oscillator seem to be applicable in many space and commercial VCDRO products.

This paper proposes a low power radio frequency receiver front-end where, in a single stage, single-balanced mixer and voltage-controlled oscillator are stacked on top of low noise amplifier and re-use the dc current to reduce the power consumption. In the proposed topology, the voltage-controlled oscillator itself plays the dual role of oscillator and mixer by exploiting a series inductor-capacitor network. Using a 65 nm complementary metal oxide semiconductor technology, the proposed radio frequency front-end is designed and simulated. Oscillating at around 2.4 GHz frequency band, the voltage-controlled oscillator of the proposed radio frequency front-end achieves the phase noise of -72 dBc/Hz, -93 dBc/Hz, and -113 dBc/Hz at 10KHz, 100KHz, and 1 MHz offset frequency, respectively. The simulated voltage conversion gain is about 25 dB. The double-side band noise figure is -14.2 dB, -8.8 dB, and -7.3 dB at 100 KHz, 1 MHz and 10 MHz offset. The radio frequency front-end consumes only 96 ㎼ dc power from a 1-V supply.

ZnWO$_4$shows excellent frequency selectivity due to its high quality factor(Q${\times}$f) at microwave frequencies. However, in order to use ZnWO$_4$as multilayered wireless communication components, its other properties such as sintering temperature(105$0^{\circ}C$). $$\tau$_f$(-70ppm/$^{\circ}C$) and $$\varepsilon$_r$(15.5) should be modified. In present study, TiO$_2$and LiF were used to improve the microwave dielectric and sintering properties of ZnWO$_4$. TiO$_2$ additions to ZnWO$_4$changed $\tau$$_{f}$ from negative to positive value, and also increased $$\varepsilon$_r$, due to its high $$\tau$_f$(+400ppm$^{\circ}C$) and $$\varepsilon$_r$(100). At 20 mol% TiO$_2$ addition, $$\tau$_f$was controlled to near zero ppm/$^{\circ}C$ with $$\varepsilon$_r$=19.4 and Q${\times}$ f=50000GHz. However, the sintering temperature was 110$0^{\circ}C$. LiF addition to the ZnWO$_4$+TiO$_2$ mixture greatly reduced the sintering temperature from 110$0^{\circ}C$ to 85$0^{\circ}C$ due to liquid phase formation. Also LiF addition decreased the $$\tau$_f$value due to its high negative $$\tau$_f$ value. Therefore, by controlling the TiO$_2$and LiF amount. temperature stable LTCC(Low Temperature Cofired Ceramics) material with low loss in the ZnWO$_4$-TiO$_2$-LiF system could be fabricated.d.d.
We have decomposed the 11-cm radio continuum emission of the W51 complex into thermal and non-thermal components. The distribution of the thermal emission has been determined by analyzing HI, CO, and IRAS $60-{\mu}m$ data. We have found a good correlation between the 11-cm thermal continuum and the 60- 11m emissions, which is used to obtain the thermal and non-thermal 11-cm continuum maps of the W51 complex. Most of the thermal continuum is emanating from the compact H II regions and their low-density ionized envelopes in W51A and W51B. All the H II regions, except G49.1-0.4 in W51B, have associated molecular clumps. The thermal radio continuum fluxes of the compact H II regions are proportional to the CO fluxes of molecular clumps. This is consistent with the previous results that the total mass of stars in an H II region is proportional to the mass of the associated molecular clump. According to our result, there are three non-thermal continuum sources in W51: G49.4-0.4 in W51A, a weak source close to G49.2-0.3 in W51B, and the shell source W51C. The non-thermal flux of G49.5-0.4 at 11-cm is $\~28 Jy$, which is $\~25\%$ of its total 11-cm flux. The radio continuum spectrum between 0.15 and 300 GHz also suggests an excess emission over thermal free-free emission. We show that the excess emission can be described as a non-thermal emission with a spectral index ${\alpha}{\simeq}-1.0 (S_v{\propto}V^a)$ attenuated by thermal free-free absorptions at low-frequencies. The non-thermal source close to G49.2-0.3 is weak $(\~9 Jy)$. The nature of the source is not known and the reality of the non-thermal emission needs to be confirmed. The non~thermal shell source W51C has a 11-cm flux of $\~130Jy$ and a spectral index ${\alpha}{\simeq}-0.26$.

Recently, sub-micron CMOS technologies have taken the place of III-V materials in a number of areas in integrated circuit designs, in particular even for the applications of gjgabit optical communication applications due to its low cost, high integration level, low power dissipation, and short turn-around time characteristics. In this paper, a four-channel transimpedance amplifier (TIA) array is realized in a standard 0.35mm CMOS technology Each channel includes an optical PIN photodiode and a TIA incorporating the fully differential regulated cascode (RGC) input configuration to achieve effectively enhanced transconductance(gm) and also exploiting the inductive peaking technique to extend the bandwidth. Post-layout simulations show that each TIA demonstrates the mid-band transimpedance gain of 59.3dBW, the -3dB bandwidth of 2.45GHz for 0.5pF photodiode capacitance, and the average noise current spectral density of 18.4pA/sqrt(Hz). The TIA array dissipates 92mw p in total from a single 3.3V supply The four-channel RGC TIA array is suitable for low-power, high-speed optical interconnect applications.

Microwave tomographic imaging technology using a bi-focusing operator has been developed in order to detect the internal voids/objects inside concrete structures. The imaging system consists of several cylindrical or planar array antennas for transmitting and receiving signals, and a numerical focusing operator is applied to the external signals both in transmitting and in receiving fields. In this study, the authors developed 3-dimensional (3D) electromagnetic (EM) imaging technology to detect such damage and to identify exact location of steel rebars or dowel. The authors have developed sub-surface two-dimensional (2D) imaging technique using tomographic antenna array in previous works. In this study, extending the earlier analytical and experimental works on 2D image reconstruction, a 3D microwave imaging system using tomographic antenna way was developed, and multi-frequency technique was applied to improve quality of the reconstructed image and to reduce background noises. Numerical simulation demonstrated that a sub-surface image can be successfully reconstructed by using the proposed tomographic imaging technology. For the experimental verification, a prototype antenna array was fabricated and tested on a concrete specimen.

Surface air temperature ($T_{air}$) is a key variable for the meteorology and climatology, and is a fundamental factor of the terrestrial ecosystem functions. Satellite remote sensing from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) provides an opportunity to monitor the $T_{air}$. However, the several problems such as frequent cloud cover and mountainous region can result in substantial retrieval error and signal loss in MODIS $T_{air}$. In this study, satellite-based $T_{air}$ was estimated under both clear and cloudy sky conditions in Gangwon Province using Aqua MODIS07 temperature profile product (MYD07_L2) and GCOM-W1 Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2) brightness temperature ($T_b$) at 37 GHz frequency, and was compared with the measurements from the Automated Mountain Meteorology Stations (AMOS). The application of ambient temperature lapse rate was performed to improve the retrieval accuracy in mountainous region, which showed the improvement of estimation accuracy approximately 4% of RMSE. A simple pixel-wise regression method combining synergetic information from MYD07_L2 $T_{air}$ and AMSR2 $T_b$ was applied to estimate surface $T_{air}$ for all sky conditions. The $T_{air}$ retrievals showed favorable agreement in comparison with AMOS data (r=0.80, RMSE=7.9K), though the underestimation was appeared in winter season. Substantial $T_{air}$ retrievals were estimated 61.4% (n=2,657) for cloudy sky conditions. The results presented in this study indicate that the satellite remote sensing can produce the surface $T_{air}$ at the complex mountainous region for all sky conditions.

This paper presents design and specific absorption rate analysis of a 2.4 GHz wearable patch antenna on a conventional and electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) ground planes, under normal and bent conditions. Wearable materials are used in the design of the antenna and EBG surfaces. A woven fabric (Zelt) is used as a conductive material and a 3 mm thicker Wash Cotton is used as a substrate. The dielectric constant and tangent loss of the substrate are 1.51 and 0.02 respectively. The volume of the proposed antenna is $113{\times}96.4{\times}3mm^3$. The metamaterial surface is used as a high impedance surface which shields the body from the hazards of electromagnetic radiations to reduce the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR). For on-body analysis a three layer model (containing skin, fats and muscles) of human arm is used. Antenna employing the EBG ground plane gives safe value of SAR (i.e. 1.77W/kg<2W/kg), when worn on human arm. This value is obtained using the safe limit of 2 W/kg, averaged over 10g of tissue, specified by the International Commission of Non Ionization Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). The SAR is reduced by 83.82 % as compare to the conventional antenna (8.16 W/kg>2W/kg). The efficiency of the EBG based antenna is improved from 52 to 74 %, relative to the conventional counterpart. The proposed antenna can be used in wearable electronics and smart clothing.
The influence of PbO additive on dielectric properties and sintering behavior of $(Pb_{0.46}Ca_{0.55})$ {$(Fe__1/2}Nb_{1/2}){0.9}Sn_{{0.1}$}$O_3$ ceramics has been investigated. The incorporation of a limited excess PbO ($\leq$2.0 wt. %) in the starting materials is quite beneficial for densification in the temperature range of 1150~$1175^{\circ}C$ in air. At a small doping level (0.8 wt. %) the ceramics prepared from powders calcined at $900^{\circ}C$ showed the best dielectric properties. The dielectric constants ($\varepsilon_r$) and Q.f were found to be 85.8~85.6 and 8530~8600 GHz, respectively. The temperature coefficient of resonant frequency ($\tau_f$) varied in the range of -2~4 $ppm/^{\circ}C$. Examination of the microstructure as well as analysis of the second phases in these materials revealed the presence of the pyrochlore-type phase which is detrimental to the dielectrics.
With increased human activity in space, the risk of re-entry and collision between space objects is constantly increasing. Hence, the need for space situational awareness (SSA) programs has been acknowledged by many experienced space agencies. Optical and radar sensors, which enable the surveillance and tracking of space objects, are the most important technical components of SSA systems. In particular, combinations of radar systems and optical sensor networks play an outstanding role in SSA programs. At present, Korea operates the optical wide field patrol network (OWL-Net), the only optical system for tracking space objects. However, due to their dependence on weather conditions and observation time, it is not reasonable to use optical systems alone for SSA initiatives, as they have limited operational availability. Therefore, the strategies for developing radar systems should be considered for an efficient SSA system using currently available technology. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the performance of a radar system in detecting and tracking space objects. With the radar system investigated, the minimum sensitivity is defined as detection of a $1-m^2$ radar cross section (RCS) at an altitude of 2,000 km, with operating frequencies in the L, S, C, X or Ku-band. The results of power budget analysis showed that the maximum detection range of 2,000 km, which includes the low earth orbit (LEO) environment, can be achieved with a transmission power of 900 kW, transmit and receive antenna gains of 40 dB and 43 dB, respectively, a pulse width of 2 ms, and a signal processing gain of 13.3 dB, at a frequency of 1.3 GHz. We defined the key parameters of the radar following a performance analysis of the system. This research can thus provide guidelines for the conceptual design of radar systems for national SSA initiatives.
